Lysle "Mac" McMurray
The funeral service for Lysle "Mac" McMurray will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Perl Funeral Service-Siskiyou Chapel.
Mr. McMurray, 90, of Medford, died Friday (Dec. 18, 1998) at his residence.

Maurice E. Bailey
Maurice E. Bailey, 70, of Ashland, died Thursday (Dec. 17, 1998) in an Ashland nursing home after a long illness. No service is planned. Burial will be at the Ashland Cemetery.
Already suffering from a liver disease, Mr. Bailey suffered a heart attack in November of this year and never regained his strength.
He was born June 14, 1928, in Ashland, the son of C. M. and Velma Bailey. His father was a Southern Pacific Railroad worker and coin dealer, and his mother was a stamp and antique collector.
Known as "Budge" to his family and friends, Mr. Bailey became the youngest member of the Woodland, Calif., municipal orchestra at the age of 13. He played the French horn.
After graduating from Southern Oregon College in Ashland with a degree in education, he moved to Los Angeles to study with a member of the city's Philharmonic orchestra.
He went on to teach school and music in Fresno, Calif., and the Los Angeles area.
In 1954, in California, he married Elisabeth Clark, who died in 1996.
They lived in El Monte, a suburb of Los Angeles, and Mr. Bailey worked for the Los Angeles Times as a pressman and electronics technician for 26 years.
He and his wife were active in Democratic political campaigns during the late 1960s and early 1970s, including the presidential efforts of Eugene McCarthy and George McGovern.
During that time, the couple opened their home to "free spirits and wayward children," providing for all who arrived at their door. Mr. Bailey followed an Eastern religion and taught his sons to think for themselves.
After his retirement at age 55, Mr. Bailey and his wife lived briefly in Cambria, Calif., then settled in Cave Junction.
Survivors include two sons, Steven L. Bailey, Greenwood Village, Colo., and Jeff Bailey, Chicago; his sister, Patricia Christlieb, Ashland; and his brother, Lorin Bailey, Roseville, Calif.
Margaret `Peggy' Blanton
Friends of Margaret "Peggy" Blanton will gather to remember her at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.
Mrs. Blanton, 68, of Ashland, died Wednesday (Dec. 16, 1998) at the Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland.
She was born Jan. 28, 1930, at Porterville, Calif., to Mignon and Robert Gilbert. Raised in Southern California, she moved to Medford in 1960.
Mrs. Blanton worked as a vocational training specialist for the State of Oregon from 1968 to 1978. She moved to Ashland in 1992.
Survivors include two sons, one foster daughter, one brother and two grandchildren.

Gladys M. Carothers
The funeral service for Gladys M. Carothers will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Perl Funeral Service-Siskiyou Chapel. Pastor Kevin Gowland of Medford First Church of the Nazarene will officiate.
Burial will follow at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Mrs. Carothers, 86, of Medford, died Friday (Dec. 18, 1998) at a Phoenix foster care home.
She was born March 8, 1912, in Sherman, Tex.
On Aug. 5, 1929, in San Jose, Calif., she married Hermon F. Carothers, who died in in 1986.
Mrs. Carothers grew up in Texas. She moved to California in her teenage years, and farmed there after marrying.
In 1951, she moved to the Rogue Valley with her family, then moved to a ranch in Australia in 1965. She and her husband returned to California in 1976, then moved back to the Rogue Valley in 1981.
She was a member of the Medford First Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include two daughters, Mildred J. Rowbotham, Medford, and Yvonne Edinger, Penobscot, Maine; a son, Frank Carothers, Jacksonville; two sisters, Anna Bohnenkamp and Mary E. Tatro, both of Yuba City, Calif.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

James G. Workman
A celebration of the life of James Grahm Workman will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, Ashland.
Mr. Workman, 66, of Ashland, died Friday (Dec. 18, 1998) at the Ashland Community Hospital.
He was born July 9, 1932, in Cleveland, Ohio. He was raised in Ohio and served in the military in Alaska, before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area to work in the banking industry.
In 1992, Mr. Workman moved to Ashland, where he worked for the Oregon Bank of Medford, later acquired by First Interstate Bank. He retired in 1990.
Mr. Workman was an avid bike rider, cross-country skier and sailor.
Survivors include his wife, Char Horning of Ashland; a daughter, Charlotte Towery of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a sister, Mary Jones of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and two grandchildren.

Emma A. Logan
Emma Amanda Logan, 84, of Medford, died Saturday (Dec. 19, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A memorial service has been held.
Inurnment will be at Memorial Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.

She was born Emma Liles on March 12, 1914, in Texarkana, Ark.
On Feb. 1, 1947, in Yakima, Wash., she married Lynn J. Logan, who died in 1987.
She lived in the Rogue Valley since 1984, moving here from Texarkana.
Mrs. Logan was a graduate of Magnolia A&M College in Magnolia, Ark., and received a bachelor of arts degree from Portland State University.
She was an elementary school teacher for many years.
Mrs. Logan was a member of the "Take Off Pounds Sensibly" group, and very active in the local chapter. She was elected Queen of TOPS in 1997.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a sister, Mamie J. Kreisman, Ashland; four nieces and eight nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Liles, in March.

Clement S. Palmer
Clement Scott Palmer, 89, of Jacksonville, died Monday (Dec. 14, 1998) at Hearthstone Manor in Medford. A private family service has been held.

He was born June 13, 1909, in Parker, Kan.
On June 13, 1931, in Twin Falls, Idaho, he married Elda V. Duval, who survives.
The couple has lived in the Rogue Valley for 29 years, and in Oregon for 49 years.
Mr. Palmer was a long-haul trucker who worked for Convoy Trucking until his retirement. He was then a school bus driver in Medford.
He enjoyed mechanical work, playing cards and working in his yard.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Doyle H. Palmer, Shady Cove; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Henry Jay Cummings
Henry Jay Cummings, 95, of Central Point, died Thursday (Dec. 17, 1998) at Three Fountains Nursing Center, Medford. No local service is planned. Entombment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

He was born Sept. 9, 1903, in Albion, Neb.
On July 11, 1923, in Aurora, Neb., he married Stella Siebler, who died in 1982.
Mr. Cummings moved to the Rogue Valley in 1955 from Washington.
He enjoyed raising horses.
Survivors include a son, Eugene, Medford; and a brother, Tom, Palmdale, Calif.
