Sarah Elizabeth Keith

Sarah Elizabeth Keith, 89, of Central Point, died Saturday (Jan. 30, 1999) at her home. No service is planned. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

She was born Sarah Helm on Sept. 27, 1909, in Oklahoma.

In 1926, in Miami, Okla., she married Charles Leonard Keith, who died in 1957. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Miami, Okla., in 1975.

Mrs. Keith was a homemaker.

Survivors include three sons, Charles Richard, Brookings, Thomas Dean, Greenville, N.C., and John William, Kirkland, Wash.; three daughters, Rita Charlene Gammel, Spokane, Wash., Mary Margaret Hillier, Long Barn, Calif., and Evelyn Marie Sprose; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Harry Allen Keith, in 1992; and a daughter, Janet Marily Sargent, in 1990.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Eva Lois Sherman

The graveside service for Eva Lois Sherman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford. The Rev. William Swanson will officiate.

Mrs. Sherman, 77, of Eagle Point, died Monday (Feb. 1, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society of America Inc., Oregon Chapter, 6501 S.W. Macadam Ave., Portland, OR 97201.

She was born Eva Lois Bennett on Nov. 25, 1921, in Cedar Creek, Texas. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Arizona in 1936.

On Sept. 22, 1940, in Shady Cove, she married Floyd W. Sherman, who died in 1992.

Survivors include two sons, Floyd E. "Eddie," Medford, and Leon C., Eagle Point; five sisters, Ruth Sanderson, Gold Hill, Marjorie (Harp) Staples, Redmond, Ruby (Bellows) Bowker, Ontario, Lillie Finch, Yoncalla, and Jewel Owens, St. David, Ariz.; a brother, Jack Bennett, Yoncalla; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Golden Bennett; and three brothers, Marvin, Chester and Everett Bennett.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services-Siskiyou, Medford.

Virginia F. Niemeyer

Virginia "Ginnie" F. Niemeyer, 76, of Eagle Point, died Sunday (Jan. 31, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private service will be held.

She was born Virginia F. Frye on April 9, 1922, in Hartford, Conn.

On April 2, 1949, in Los Angeles, she married John Albert Niemeyer, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1982.

Mrs. Niemeyer was an avid collector of dolls, china, bears and memorabilia.

She enjoyed traveling, and visited all 50 states and 33 foreign countries.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three sons, John and Bill, both of Eagle Point, and David, Perris, Calif.; two daughters, Betty Niemeyer, Eagle Point, and Nancy Brown, Santee, Calif.; a sister, Lois McKie, Palos Verdes, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services-Siskiyou, Medford.

Hadley `Van' Garbarski

Hadley Homer "Van" Garbarski, 92, of Central Point, died Saturday (Jan. 30, 1999) at his home. No service is planned.

He was born June 18, 1906.

On March 17, 1981, in Medford, he married Lucille Cooper, who survives. He lived in the Rogue Valley most of his life.

Mr. Garbarski was a miner.

He enjoyed playing cards.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two stepdaughters, Janet Reed, Eagle Point, and Donna Rawlins, Brookings; a stepson, Karl King, Brown Deer, Wis.; 13 step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.

Don Mathes

The memorial service for Don Mathes will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Rogue Valley Christian Church, 1440 S. Oakdale Ave., Medford.

Mr. Mathes, 52, of Central Point, died Friday (Jan. 29, 1999) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Sept. 3, 1946, in Porterville, Calif.

On Nov. 27, 1992, in Virginia City, Nev., he married Christi Duggan, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley 13 years ago from Redmond.

Mr. Mathes owned and operated Don's Barbershop in Central Point. Prior to moving to Medford, he was a police officer for the City of Redmond for 12 years.

He was a member of the Eagles Club and the Oregon Hunters Association.

Mr. Mathes enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four daughters, Sarah Soltis, Gold Hill, Maria Mathes, Redmond, Jamie Dameron, Anchorage, Alaska, and Jobo Walker, Reno, Nev.; a son, Donald E., Redmond; two brothers, Bill and Cecil, both of Portland; three sisters, Audra Benston, Central Point, Faye Nelson, Garibaldi; and Bea Shelton, Corpus Christi, Texas; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Norma J. Walker

The memorial service for Norma Juanita Walker will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Three Fountains Care Center, Medford. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Walker, 84, died Thursday (Jan. 28, 1999).

She was born July 28, 1914, in Oregon City.

On Sept. 19, 1942, in Canby, she married Alfred E. Walker, who survives. They lived in the Rogue Valley since moving from Oregon City in 1945.

Mrs. Walker was a member of the Royal Neighbors of American. She enjoyed reading, especially the National Geographic and Readers Digest magazines, and gardening with her husband.

Survivors include a brother, Don Roth, Salem.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors.

Alberta Kaiser

Alberta Empson Kaiser, 94, of O'Brien, died Friday (Jan. 29, 1999) at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. No service is planned. Inurnment will be at the Masonic Cemetery in Grants Pass.

Memorial contributions may be made to Doernbecher Children's Hospital, 3181 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97201.

She was born Alberta Empson on Jan. 27, 1905 in Mattoon, Ill.

Mrs. Kaiser was a purchasing agent for a hospital in Long Beach, Calif.

She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge No. 111 in Kirby, the Order of the Eastern Star, Job's Daughters and the Wilderville Methodist Church.

She enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary J. Ethridge, O'Brien, Jo Smith, Huntington Beach, Calif., and Nelda VanEman, Hemet, Calif.; two sons, Homer Budd, Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Ogle Parmerlee, San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Kenneth Empson of California; a daughter-in-law, Evelyn Parmerlee, Cave Junction; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Ray Parmerlee and Ralph Parmerlee Jr.

Jess W. Woodard

Jess W. Woodard, 87, of Central Point, died Saturday (Jan. 30, 1999) at Three Fountains Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Medford. A private family service is planned.

He was born Dec. 29, 1911 in Muse, Okla.

In 1936, he married Eunice Woodard, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Woodard lived in the Rogue Valley since 1991, when he moved to the area from Rio Dell, Calif.

He was a self-employed timber faller who worked in northern California. Mr. Woodard was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and cutting wood.

Survivors include two sons, Jess William, Jr., Medford, and Vaughnon Lee, Scotia, Calif; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Eisenberg.

Everett L. Mitchell

Everett Lawrence Mitchell, 60, of White City, died Sunday (Jan. 24, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A memorial service and inurnment will be held later in Galesburg, Ill.

He was born Oct. 19, 1938, in Galesburg.

Mr. Mitchell served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964.

He was a firefighter for the Santa Barbara, Calif., County Fire Department.

Mr. Mitchell enjoyed bowling, fishing and driving his car.

Survivors include two sons, Frank, Manassas, Va., and Curt, Ojai, Calif.; a daughter, Julie Allen, Ventura, Calif.; six sisters, Dorcus, Ellen, Betty, Delia, Shirley and Anna; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Lee and Charles Edward; and a sister, Reva Blanche Lidle.
