Henry H. Jackson
Henry H. Jackson, 75, of Talent, died Sunday (Feb. 7, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A private service will be held.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Susan, Talent; and four children.

Howard Schulke
The memorial service for Howard Paul Schulke will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Belcrest Mausoleum Chapel in Salem. Burial will follow in the cemetery.
Mr. Schulke, 67, of Jacksonville, died Thursday (Feb. 4, 1999) in Medford.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oregon School for the Deaf in care of the Dallas Mortuary Chapel, 287 S.W. Washington St., Dallas, OR 97338.
Mr. Schulke was born on June 27, 1931 in Naponee, Neb. On May 13, 1961 in Turner, Ore., he married Barbara Gentry. They later divorced.
Mr. Schulke moved to Medford at age 3. The family settled in Silverton in 1935. He attended the Oregon School for the Deaf in Salem for 13 years. Mr. Schulke worked running a chipper for Roseburg Lumber.
He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1976 and to Jacksonville in 1989. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and working on hot rod cars.
Survivors include three daughters, Marsha Schulzke and Michele Murray, both of Medford, and Nicole DuBoise of Roseburg; a sister, Nedra Colley of Dallas, Ore., and five grandchildren.

James Earl Cornutt
The memorial service for James Earl Cornutt will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Southern Baptist Church, Medford. The Rev. Ken Miller, of Beaver Creek Baptist Church in Beaver Creek, Ariz., will officiate. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mr. Cornutt, 82, of Medford, died Friday (Feb. 5, 1999) at Hearthstone nursing center in Medford.

Mr. Cornutt was born June 4, 1916 in Central Point. On May 10, 1942, in Klamath Falls, he married Harriet Bruner, who survives.
He lived in the Rogue Valley most of his life, graduating from a Gold Hill high school in 1936. In 1977, he received an associate's degree in drafting from the Arizona Academy of Drafting Arts in Tempe.
Mr. Cornutt worked as a volunteer construction worker on Midway Island during World War II. He also worked on construction projects during the establishment of Camp White, and in carpentry and construction in Oregon, Washington and Arizona.
Mr. Cornutt served as a deacon at churches in Arizona and was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Medford. He was a past master of granges in Central Point and Moses Lake, Wash. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing his harmonica and eating strawberry shortcake.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Dennis J. of Meeker, Colo., and Ted of Flagstaff, Ariz.; two daughters, Linda Sindt of Medford and Susan Niles of Kingman, Ariz.; a brother, Harry, of Salem; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Jasper Hill
The funeral for Jasper Ellis Markham Hill will be at 11 a.m. today (Monday, Feb. 8, 1999) at the Clay Street Community Church of God, Ashland. The Rev. Ray Orndoff will officiate.
Mr. Hill, 91, of Talent, died Friday (Feb. 5, 1999) at his home.

Mr. Hill was born Jan. 18, 1907, in Montesano, Wash., a descendant of Oregon pioneers. In 1926 in Marshfield, he married Madge Wiseman. They later divorced. On Dec. 16, 1936, in San Francisco, he married Ann V. Parker, who died in 1983.
Mr. Hill was raised in Oregon and attended high school in Hillsboro. In 1930, he moved to San Francisco to work as a landscape gardener at Golden Gate Park. He lived in San Francisco, Santa Rosa and Napa, Calif. He worked as a timber faller and truck driver.
He helped build roads for construction of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local No. 624, the Mantle Club in San Francisco and the Bennett Valley Grange. Mr. Hill enjoyed hunting, raising hogs and livestock and was an avid rock hound.
Survivors include a daughter, Arleen E. Brown of Talent; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, a son, three sisters and three brothers.

Virginia W. Cotton
A gathering of remembrance for Virginia Way Cotton will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rogue Valley, Ashland.
Mrs. Cotton, 82, of Ashland, died Thursday (Feb. 4, 1999) at Ashland Community Hospital.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to The Way Foundation, in care of Valley of the Rogue Bank, 250 N. Pioneer St., Ashland.
Mrs. Cotton was born March 7, 1916 in Minneapolis. In June 1939 in Minneapolis, she married John C. Cotton, who died in 1963.
Mrs. Cotton had lived in the Rogue Valley since 1946. She took over as owner/operator of Lumber Mills Corp. after her husband died.
Mrs. Cotton was twice president of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival board of directors, chairman of the Education Coordinating Council and president of the Association of Jackson County Public Health. She was instrumental in protecting the historic Swedenburg House, now the Plunkett Center at Southern Oregon University, and she served on the campaign to "Save Mount Ashland." She also chaired the first Oregon Shakespeare Festival endowment committee.
She enjoyed tennis, skiing and traveling.
Survivors include four sons, Peter Way Cotton of Ashland, Michael C. Cotton of Eugene, Jeffrey John Cotton of Anchorage, Alaska, and Christopher Cotton of Reno; a brother, Tupper Way of Minneapolis; a sister, Nancy Leinke of Grand Portage, Minn.; and seven grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Way, and an infant son, John Cotton.

Leroy Jesse Ayers
Leroy Jesse Ayers, 78, of Medford, died Tuesday (Feb. 2, 1999) at Hearthstone. A private service is planned. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
He was born July 14, 1920, in Lime. He was raised in Lime and Huntington.
Mr. Ayers was a schoolteacher in Ontario before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He lived in Shreveport, La., for 21 years, where he was an accountant for Acadia Corp.
After moving to Medford in 1974, he worked for the Job Council and was a parking attendant for U.S. National Bank.
Mr. Ayers was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Foster Grandparents Program, Eagles Lodge, Southern Oregon Historical Society, Valley Poets and Enid Rankin Senior Center.
Survivors include a son, William Jesse, Shreveport.

Wilma May Hanscom
Wilma May Hanscom, 72, of Eagle Point, died Monday (Feb. 5, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A celebration of life will be held at the Eagle Point Community Bible Church at 6 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Dick Bull will officiate.
She was born Wilma Russell, on March 6, 1926 in Henley. On June 18, 1944, in Central Point, she married Harry Hanscom, who survives.
She lived most her life in the Rogue Valley, and was a member of the Eagle Point Community Bible Church. She enjoyed travel, fishing, hunting, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors in addition to her husband include, four sons, Edward, Donald and Larry Hanscom, all of Eagle Point, and Morgan Hanscom, Anchorage, Alaska; a brother Wayne Russell, of Coquille; two sisters Lorraine Smith, Central Point, and Florence Moon, Myrtle Point; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Lawrence L. White
Lawrence Lawson White, 92, of Ashland, died Thursday (Feb. 4, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A private service was held. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

He was born Sept. 17, 1906, in Atlanta, Ohio.
In 1934, in Columbus, Ohio, he married Alice Hughes, who died in 1987. They moved to the Rogue Valley 33 years ago from Los Angeles.
Mr. White was the engineering officer for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Columbus and Los Angeles until his retirement in 1966.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of the Navy League of the U.S. and Ashland Presbyterian Church.
He was an avid golfer.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda White, Reno, Nev. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Crozier and Martha Norris; and a brother, Warren.

Faye Pauline Smith
Faye Pauline Smith, 81, of Central Point, died Friday (Feb. 5, 1999) at Three Fountains Nursing Center, Medford. A private celebration of her life is planned.

She was born Faye Greer on Feb. 17, 1917, in Avant, Okla.
On Nov. 25, 1935, in Tishomingo, Okla., she married William C. Smith, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1937 from Oklahoma.
Mrs. Smith was an artist and did pencil sketches. She also enjoyed bowling, crafts and fishing.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, C.W., Eagle Point; a daughter, Wanda Morris, Central Point; a brother, Colman Greer, King City; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
