Peggy Cockrell
Peggy Cockrell, 55, of Ashland, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002 at her home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory.
Stacey Elliott
Stacey Elliott, 50, of Ashland, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002 at Ashland Community Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory.
Zathena Inge Winans
Zathena Inge Winans, 38, formerly of Ashland, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002 in Pasadena, Calif., from complications stemming from Multiple Sclerosis. Cremation arrangements were made with Aaron Cremation and Burial Services in Van Nuys. The memorial service will be held at a later date.
She was born Dec. 13, 1963 in Arcata, Calif. to Roger and Thea Winans. At age 16, she moved to Ashland to live with her aunt, Nedra Mauck. She attained her GED and went on to graduate from Southern Oregon State College with a degree in Fine Arts. She had several showings of her art work in the Ashland area. On May 11, 1991, she married Thomas Balogh, who survives. They made their home on Dewey St. in Ashland.
Zathena worked for several years as a caretaker with the developmentally disabled at Miller house in Ashland. She felt very close to the clients there and, even in the latter stages of her illness, loved to hear news of them. Her other interests included traveling and camping throughout the Northwest, natural history, art and her animals including, for a while at her Dewey St. home, a flock of Buff Orphington hens and a hive of honeybees. She was especially fond of her companion dog, "Cowboy".
She is survived by her husband Tom, of Medford; her sister Shazi Winans of Pasadena, Calif.; and her father Roger, also of Pasadena. She was preceded in death by her mother, Thea.
Memorial donations may be made in Zathena's name to Advocates for the Severely Handicapped, 556 B St., Ashland, Or. 97520.
Annette Marie Fellers
Annette Marie Fellers, 88, of Portland died Wednesday, Oct. 23, in Lake Oswego.
She was born Jan. 18, 1914 in Crofton, Neb. She moved to Tigard from Ashland in 1977. She graduated from Wayne State Teachers College in Wayne, Neb. and Southern Oregon College in Ashland. Annette was a teacher.
She was a former member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters and alter society. In Portland, she was a member Ascension Catholic Church.
Rosary will be held at 7 p.m., tonight, 2002 at the Ascension Catholic Church in Portland. A Funeral Mass will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, at Ascension Catholic Church, 7507 S.E. Yamhill Portland. Inurnment will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Tigard.
Survivors include husband, Alvin Fellers of Portland; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Tom Fink of Lake Oswego; daughter, Patricia Fellers of Portland; daughter, and son-in-law Debi and John Lake of Vancouver, Wash.; three grandchildren, Amy, Jeani, Molly; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death was her sister Hattie Bowyer; brother Ernest Kuehn; and brother Harvey Kuehn.
Contributions can be made to King City Lions Sight and Hearing Fund or St. Vincent DePaul.
Arrangements are in care of Young's Funeral Home, Tigard.
Richard Ernst
Richard Ernst, longtime attorney for Pacific Maritime Association, died Friday, Oct. 25 in Denver, Colo., after a brief illness. He was 90. Richard Ernst attended the University of Minnesota ('33), Princeton (MA'35), Yale Law School ('38) and Princeton (Ph.D. '42), before settling in San Francisco. He specialized in labor relations law. Ernst retired to Ashland in 1980 where he pursued his interests in farming, Shakespeare and theater. He is survived by his 3 married children and 7 grandchildren.
Treva Rose Tumbleson
Treva Rose Tumbleson, 75, of Ashland, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002 in Ashland. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002 at the Presbyterian Church, Ashland with Rev. Lolita "Corky" Knight
Lolita "Corky" Knight, age 89, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at Providence Medical Center in Medford. Mrs. Knight was born March 18, 1913 in Deer Park, Wash. She was a long time resident of Klamath Falls, Ore.
Edward Whitney Inman
Edward Whitney Inman, 86, formerly of Ashland, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002 in Central Point, Ore. Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Nov. 4, 2002 at Eagle Point National Cemetery. His nephew, Rev. Joel Williams of New Life Assembly of God Church will be officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 3 at Central Valley Chapel.
Vallie Bauling
Vallie Bauling, 77, of Medford, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002. Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002. Leona Mitchell of Temple Emek Shalom will be officiating.
Vallie Bauling was born April 22, 1925, in Philadelphia, Penn. She lived in the Rogue Valley for 5 years, mostly at the Mountain View Residence, Ashland.
She attended Fairfax High School in Los Angeles, Calif. On July 7, 1946, she married Frank Bauling, who died in 1990. She was a housewife, mother and grandmother. Her hobbies included reading, T.V., and spending time with friends and family.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-laws, Leonard Bauling and Becky Jenkins, and Barry Bauling and Shena Crane; two grandchildren, Tami (Bauling) Hathaway and Erin (Bauling) Mayer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.
Lee E. Garbert
Lee E. Garbert, 85, of Phoenix, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002 at a Medford foster care home.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002 at Trail Christian Fellowship, 18881 Hwy. 62, Eagle Point. Pastor Rick Booye and Matthew McAuliffe of Trail Christian Fellowship will be officiating. In 2003, the ashes will be buried at North Union Cemetery in Kokomo, Ind.

Lee E. Garbert was born May 12, 1917 in Boone County, Ind. He married the former Lynn Cowles, who survives, on May 31, 1973. He has lived in the Rogue Valley since moving from Lucerne Valley, Calif., in 1981.
Mr. Garbert was an accountant for Kokomo, Indiana's Chrysler plant, during World War II, while they made tank transmissions and rifle parts; then a public accountant; and in California, he became a Department of Defense auditor.
He was a member of Trail Christian Fellowship, the National Association of retired Federal Employees in Oregon, the Lions Club in Indiana and California, and president of Indiana's many accounting associations.
Mr. Garbert loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed reading, walking, camping and dogs.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Garbert of Phoenix; son, Gary Garbert of Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Connie Francis of Medford and Marta Mackown of Gibsons, British Columbia, Canada; step sister, Eloise Ruckman of Indiana; brother, Ed Garbert of Chatsworth, Calif.; step-brother, Woody Campbell of Columbus, Ohio; half-sister, Janet Robertson of Arp, Texas; three sisters, Helen Newman of Kokomo, Ind., Zonda Kranz of Kokomo and Edna Toutloff of Huntington, Ind.; five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Preceded in death were his parents, Ora and Mary; a brother, Oren Wendell Garbert; and several step-siblings.
Abbey Funeral will be in charge of arrangements.
