Rose Bernice Campbell
The memorial service for Rose Bernice Campbell will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Sportsman Tavern, 145 South Redwood Highway, Cave Junction. A potluck will follow the service.
Mrs. Campbell, 71, of Cave Junction, died Thursday (Feb. 25, 1999) at Three Rivers Community Hospital, Washington Campus.
She was born Rose Bernice Haski on July 19, 1927, in Pittsburgh. She moved to Cave Junction 22 years ago from Anaheim, Calif.
On June 12, 1978, in Reno, Nev., she married Charles Elmer Campbell, who died in 1993.
Mrs. Campbell owned and operated the Sportsman Tavern in Cave Junction.
Survivors include two daughters, Patsy Reeder, Cave Junction, and Barbara Fish, Pennsylvania; a grandson; and a great-grandson.

Claude Benton Allen
The graveside service for Claude Benton Allen will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. Pastor Rick Burns of First Baptist Church, Medford, will officiate.
Mr. Allen, 79, of Gold Hill, died Sunday (Feb. 28, 1999) at Hearthstone.
He was born May 9, 1919, in Sallisaw, Okla.
On Dec. 25, 1946, in Klamath Falls, he married M. Doris Foulon, who survives.
Mr. Allen was a career postal worker. He was appointed postmaster of Gold Hill on May 8, 1967. He retired in 1974, but continued to work as a farmer, and in real estate.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 41st Division in the Pacific Theater.
Mr. Allen enjoyed gardening, and caring for his grandchildren.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, David Gregory, Medford, and Eugene, Clarksdale, Miss.; two daughters, Laura Davidson, Sams Valley, and Roberta Allen, Gold Hill; two brothers, Jesse and George, both Klamath Falls; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Enid Whitworth; and a grandson, Stephen Allen.
Friends may pay their respects from 3:30 to 5 p.m. today at Rogue Funeral Alternatives, 550 Business Park Drive, Medford.

LaGretta E. O'Rourke
LaGretta Emma O'Rourke, 78, of Medford, died Friday (Feb. 26, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. No service is planned.
She was born LaGretta Cahoy on Feb. 24, 1921, in Yankton, S.D.
In 1941, in Roswell, N.M., she married Ambrose O'Rourke, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. O'Rourke was an active member of the Joy Christian Fellowship and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include two daughters, Glee O'Rourke and Gwen Nelson, both of Medford; two sons, Stan, Santa Maria, Calif., and Dennis, Colfax, Calif.; two sisters, Lillian Meuhl, Custer, and Mable Nohava, Mesa, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, Happy Cahoy.

Ben Eugene Taylor
The memorial service for Ben Eugene Taylor will be at 4 p.m. today in St. Peter Lutheran Church, 1020 E. Main St., Medford. Pastor William Lehmann of St. Peter Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment will be in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Taylor, 51, of Medford, died Friday (Feb. 26, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 4, 1947, in Whittier, Calif. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Los Angeles 26 years ago.
On Aug. 10, 1968, in Downey, Calif., he married Mary Hammermeister, who survives.
Mr. Taylor owned and operated Ben Taylor Enterprises, which distributed Crystal Ice Cream.
He served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vietnam. During his Vietnam tour, he was awarded two Purple Hearts.
Mr. Taylor was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, socializing and helping others.

Mabel M. Stemple
Mabel M. Stemple, 88, of Ashland, died Sunday (Feb. 28, 1999). A private service will be held. Private inurnment will be in the Chapel of Reflections, Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

She was born Mabel Moore on Nov. 2, 1910, in Olympia, Wash., to Clinton H. Moore and Frances Gardner, a direct descendant of an Ashland pioneer family.
On July 2, 1933, in Klamath Falls, she married Ryle Camden Stemple, who died in 1990. They came to Ashland in 1940, where they lived for 55 years. Mrs. Stemple moved to Horton Plaza in Medford in 1995.
Mrs. Stemple was active with the Ashland School District.
Survivors include three sons, Peter L., Jacksonville, Ryle C., and David M., both Klamath Falls; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Monroe Moore; and a sister, Mildred Eckman.

Elizabeth Budd
Elizabeth Budd, 92, of Roseburg, formerly of Medford, died Thursday (Feb. 25, 1999) at her home. A private service was held. Inurnment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Glendale, Calif.
She was born on April 24, 1906 in Chicago. She moved to Medford in 1979 from Walnut Creek, Calif.
Ms. Budd graduated from the University of Southern California in 1929, where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.
Following her graduation, she became the editor in the USC publishing department, a job she held until she enlisted in the Navy in 1942. She retired as the head of the publishing branch, U.S. Navy Radiological Defense Laboratory in San Francisco.

Berton `Sam' Johnson
The graveside service for Berton "Sam" Johnson will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif. Leroy Stowell, a family member, will officiate.
Mr. Johnson, 74, of Medford, died Friday (Feb. 26, 1999) at Hearthstone.

He was born Nov. 19, 1924, in Gila Bend, Ariz. He moved to the Rogue Valley 2 1/2 years ago from Long Beach, Calif.
Mr. Johnson was a miner for various mining companies across the western United States.
He served in World War II in the India-Burma campaign as one of "Merrill's Marauders."
Mr. Johnson was a member of the Disabled American Veterans No. 17 in Long Beach, Calif.
He enjoyed traveling, especially to cemeteries to research his family genealogy.
Survivors include three sons, Larry McCarthy, Prescott, Ariz., Samuel Berton Johnson, New Mexico, and Jerry Norman Riley, Phoenix, Ariz.; four brothers, Ronnie, Medford, Elton, Cleveland, Ohio, Larry, Skull Valley, Ariz., and Wade, Phoenix, Ariz.; four sisters, Mildred Stowell, Gilbert, Ariz., Donna Nowland and Nona Smith, both San Diego, Calif., and Darla Shepherdson, Orem, Utah; and two granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, in 1993; three sisters, Wilma, Evelyn and Margrett; and a brother, Theron.

Willa Maye Smith
The graveside service for Willa Maye Smith will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Medford Eastwood I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Highland and Siskiyou Blvd., Medford.
Mrs. Smith, 83, of Medford, died Saturday (Feb. 27, 1999) at her home.

She was born Willa Maye Henson on June 9, 1915, in Bokhoma, Okla.
On June 10, 1933, in Wright City, Okla., she married William Edward Smith, who died in 1997. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Klamath Falls in 1959.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting and fishing.
Survivors include a son, Troy E., Salem; a daughter, Wanda Lou Giles, Olympia, Wash.; four granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Betty Sue Simmons
The graveside service for Betty Sue Simmons will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mrs. Simmons, 68, of Gold Hill, died Saturday (Feb. 27, 1999) at her home.

She was born Betty Sue Rikard on Dec. 14, 1930, in Wirth, Ark. She moved to the Rogue Valley 51 years ago from Florida.
Mrs. Simmons was retired.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan Gorman, Gold Hill; a son, Loren Kelly, Rogue River; three sisters, Eileen Pinkham, Central Point, Opal Johnston, Florida, and Maxine Tulare, Las Vegas; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loren; and two brothers, Richard Dewey Rikard and Virgil Harold Rikard.
