Thelma Evelyn Glad

The funeral service for Thelma Evelyn Glad will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in The Father's House Church, 1505 Sage Road, Suite C., Medford. Pastor Jonathan Prestage of the church will officiate.

Mrs. Glad, 90, of Gold Hill, died Sunday (Feb. 28, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born Thelma Evelyn Babcock on July 20, 1908, in Scottsbluff, Neb. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1938 from Tillamook.

In Tillamook, she married Edwin Ammitt "Bud" Glad, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Glad served a tour of duty with the Women's Army Corps.

She enjoyed reading, animals, collecting rocks and panning for gold.

Survivors include a sister, Joyce Atto, Gold Hill; and a brother, Jesse Paul Babcock, Winston. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Otis, Leslie, Roy, Clarence, Elmin and Donald; and two sisters, Cora Elizabeth and Dora Augusta.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services-Siskiyou, Medford.

Deborah Doris Turek

The funeral service for Deborah Doris Turek will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Calvary Lutheran Church, 909 N.E. A St., Grants Pass. The Rev. Donald Carlson will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Turek, 51, of Grants Pass, died Monday (March 1, 1999) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America, 158 W. 29th St., Seventh Floor, New York, NY 10011-5300.

She was born Deborah Doris Enroth on June 12, 1947, in White Bear Lake, Minn. She graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College with a bachelor's degree in education.

On Dec. 6, 1969, in White Bear Lake, she married Thomas Turek, who survives. They moved to Portland in 1970 and to Grants Pass in 1975.

Mrs. Turek was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and the Josephine County Medical Alliance.

She enjoyed running, theater, choir and traveling.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Christopher, Grants Pass, and Nicholas, Portland; and a brother, Oscar Enroth, White Bear Lake, Minn.

Friends may pay their respects from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Calvary Lutheran Church.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Heather S. Thornburg

The graveside service for Heather Suzanne Thornburg will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Jacksonville Cemetery. Blackstar and the Rev. Flo Bohnert will officiate.

Ms. Thornburg, 24, of Medford, died Feb. 20, 1999, at her home.

She was born March 19, 1974, in Medford, and lived in the Rogue Valley all her life.

Ms. Thornburg was a member of Christ Unity Church, and a past member of the Pocahantas.

She enjoyed reading and writing, crafts, Indian folklore, and computers.

Survivors include her father, Chris Thornburg, Merlin; her mother, Susan Thornburg, Medford; a sister, Jessie Thornburg, Merlin; and her grandmothers, Mary Kincaid, Medford, and Bessie Doak, Merlin.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Ellen Mae Quetzal

Ellen Mae Quetzal, 62, of Medford, died Friday (Feb. 26, 1999) at her home. The memorial service was held Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Liam Cary officiated. A memorial mass will be said Friday at 8:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society, P.O. Box 1663, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Ellen Mae Wenzel on Feb. 20, 1937, in Chicago. She moved to the Rogue Valley from California in 1991. Ms. Quetzal was a waitress at the Red Baron.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Eagles Lodge and was a volunteer at St. Vincent De Paul.

Ms. Quetzal enjoyed her dogs, bowling, fishing and ice skating.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara L. Myres, Medford, and Susan M. Matzek, LaVern, Calif.; three sons, Kenneth M. and Ronald E. Dodds, both Santa Maria, Calif., and Troy L. Harvey, Los Angeles; a sister, Florence L. Orlando, Chicago; two brothers, Bruce Wenzel, California, and Gerald Wenzel, Oregon City; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care.

Lucius `Lou' Rogers

The memorial service for Lucius Oliver "Lou" Rogers will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 469 N.W. Wall St., Bend. The Rev. Bill Ellis will officiate. The Bend Chapter No. 108 O.E.S. will hold a reception following the service at the church.

Mr. Rogers, 85, of Bend, formerly of Medford and Prospect, died Sunday (Feb. 28, 1999) in a nursing facility in Bend.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 3101 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97201.

He was born Sept. 21, 1913, in Grand Junction, Colo. He spent his first eight years in Grand Junction, after which he moved to Medford where he worked for the Mail Tribune delivering newspapers by bicycle on an 18-mile gravel road route. He graduated from Medford High School in 1932.

On July 10, 1938, he married Velma Shelley, who survives.

Mr. Rogers worked for Pacific Power Co. as a superintendent at the hydro power station in Prospect.

He was a 50-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers No. 659. He was a charter member of the Masonic Lodge-Cascade Lodge No. 208 A.F. & A.M. in Shady Cove, as well as a 49-year member of the Eastern Star, and a past member of the Bend Elks Lodge No. 1371.

Mr. Rogers was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts for 30 years.

He enjoyed good stories, hunting, fishing, and gardening.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Suzanne E. Teague, Montrose, Colo.; three sons, John S., Sisters, James A., Hartlepool, England, and George O., College Station, Texas; a brother, Allen L., Reno, Nev.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Niswonger, Reynolds & Tabor Funeral Home, Bend.

Alice Naomi Muir

The graveside service for Alice Naomi Muir will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday in Stearns Cemetery, Anderson Creek Road, Talent.

Mrs. Muir, 98, of Talent, died Saturday (Feb. 27, 1999) at Linda Vista Care Center.

She was born Alice Naomi Ricketson on April 26, 1900, in Everett, Wash.

In 1956, in Seattle, she married William Muir, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley 12 years ago from Seattle.

Mrs. Muir was a beautician for the Washington Athletic Club for 25 years, until her retirement.

She enjoyed gardening, reading and knitting.

Survivors include a son, Thomas Scuitto, Talent; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frederick Leber; her second husband, Frank "Jack" Scuitto; and her third husband, William Muir; a son, Fred Leber; and a sister, Louise Davis.

Dale William Bankston

The funeral for Dale William Bankston will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Memory Gardens Mortuary in Medford. Wayne Cowley of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Medford First Ward, will officiate.

Mr. Bankston, 80, of Medford, died Monday (March 1, 1999) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born April 20, 1918, in Iete, La.

On Nov. 25, 1945, in Alamosa, Colo., he married Ethel Mae Hinkle, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Colorado in 1946.

Mr. Bankston helped build Elk Lumber Company, which later became Boise Cascade. He was a mill worker for many years, retiring in 1977.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Bankston attended the Medford First Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and winters in Yuma, Ariz.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Steve, Medford; a daughter, Karen Robertson, Medford; a brother, John, Sequim, Wash.; a sister Arah Devine, Monte Vista, Colo.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Bellinger and Arnold Lane, Medford.

Carl Otto Baxter

The memorial service for Carl Otto Baxter will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Chapel in Medford. The Rev. Bob Graig of Phoenix Baptist Church and the officers and members of the Jackson County Pomona Grange will officiate. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Baxter, 84, of Talent, died Sunday (Feb. 28, 1999) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Nov. 4, 1914, in Gerster, Mo. He moved to the Rogue Valley 22 years ago from Rialto, Calif.

On Oct. 15, 1959, in Las Vegas, he married Esther Sauer, who survives.

Mr. Baxter was a roofer with Mathis Brothers Roofing in Salem for four years. He then worked for Bell Roofing in San Bernardino, Calif., prior to moving to the Rogue Valley.

He attended Phoenix Baptist Church, and was a member of the Grange and the Pomona Grange.

He enjoyed raising livestock and gardening.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include five sons, Kenneth, Talent, Forest E., Rockford, Ill., Carl Lee, St. Louis, Donald L., Hesperia, Calif., and Robert D., Rialto, Calif.; a daughter, Patricia Wilds, St. Charles, Ohio; a sister, Audra Stripling, Bishop, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. today at Hillcrest Chapel.
