Nelson `Jim' Ballard
Nelson "Jim" Ballard, 90, of Medford, died Sunday (March 7, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center. No local service is planned.
He was born June 19, 1908, in Laramie, Wyo.
On Feb. 28, 1943, in Berkeley, Calif., he married Margaret Yaryan, who died in 1989. He moved to the Rogue Valley six years ago from Tiburon, Calif.
Mr. Ballard was with Sears and Roebuck Co. in San Francisco for 25 years. Before that he was a newspaper man in Chicago. He also worked as a steward on the Superchief train from Chicago to Los Angeles.
He was a member of the Jazz Society.
Survivors include a son, Ted Ballard, Gold Hill; and two granddaughters.

Emily J. Stewart
The funeral Mass for Emily Josephine Stewart will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Medford. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens Mortuary.
Mrs. Stewart, 82, of Jacksonville, died Monday (March 8, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born Emily Charney on Jan. 4, 1917, in Bridgeport, Mich.
On Aug. 24, 1946, in Detroit, she married Robert R. Stewart, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Walnut Creek, Calif., in 1952.
The couple owned and operated Stewart's Jr. Boot Shop in Medford from 1965 to 1986.
Mrs. Stewart was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and Saint Anne's Altar Society.
She enjoyed gardening, building, and following the stock market.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Cynthia Kaiser, Medford; two sons, Glenn Stewart, San Jose, Calif., and Cabe Silverhame, Bolinas, Calif.; a sister, Eugenia Targonski, Grosse Pointe, Mich.; and four granddaughters. She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Friends may pay their respects from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens Mortuary.
Richard J. Andrade
The chapel service for Richard J. Andrade will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Hillcrest Mortuary.
Mr. Andrade, 68, of Eagle Point, died Sunday (March 7, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 30, 1930, in Oakland, Calif.
On July 24, 1948, in San Lorenzo, Calif., he married Barbara R. Neville, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley 4 1/2 years ago from Sparks, Nev.
Mr. Andrade was a cabinet maker until his retirement in 1978.
He was a member of the Good Sams Club and the Goners RV Club of Medford.
He enjoyed attending car shows with his 1928 Model A Ford pickup, hunting and fishing, camping, and water skiing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Cathy Thumler, Medford; a brother, Louis Smith, Mission San Jose, Calif.; a sister, Shirley Allen, Escalon, Calif.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A son, Lee, preceded him in death in 1996.

Eugene R. Hansen
The graveside service for Eugene Raymond Hansen will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. The Rev. Lyle McCaw of White City Christian Church will officiate.
Mr. Hansen, 72, of Eagle Point, died Sunday (March 7, 1999) at his home.

He was born Sept. 7, 1926, in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
On Jan. 1, 1954, in San Luis Obispo, he married Barbara Slaten, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley from the Willamette Valley in 1976.
Mr. Hansen was a self-employed commercial abalone diver in California for 20 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gold dredging in the Rogue River.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Kenneth, Eagle Point; three daughters, Deborah Hansen-Bernard, Ashland, Valerie Johnson, Gold Hill, and Jean Brooks, Wimer; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Barbara C. Adams
Barbara C. Adams, 82, of Medford, died Friday (March 5, 1999) in Medford. A private service will be held.
She was born Barbara Mae Campbell on March 8, 1916, in Hillsboro, Ill.
On May 26, 1939, in Pasadena, Calif., she married Woodward E. Adams, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1994.
Mrs. Adams was a secretary for the California State Legislature in Sacramento in the 1950s and 1960s.
She enjoyed outdoor activities.
Survivors include two daughters, Jacqueline Buffaloe, Eagle Point, and Jeannette G. Baffico, Danville, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Neva S. McKeen

Eugene Elihu Kent
The memorial service for Eugene Elihu Kent will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. Veterans for Veterans will officiate.
Mr. Kent, 86, of Medford, died Feb. 15, 1999, in Medford.

Roxie A. McKinney
Roxie Alta McKinney, 87, of Davis, Calif., formerly of Medford, died Feb. 8, 1999, in Woodland, Calif. A private service was held.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
She was born Roxie Alta Daugherty on Sept. 25, 1911, in Oklahoma.
In 1931, she married William T. McKinney, who died in 1984. The couple moved to Medford in 1947.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. McKinney worked for J.J. Newberry in the ladies wear department for 18 years.
Survivors include two sons, Tomie, Davis, Calif., and Max, Napa, Calif.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Ruth Adelle Friend
The funeral service for Ruth Adelle Friend will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the IOOF Cemetery in Medford.
Mrs. Friend, 84, of Fall Creek, formerly of Medford, died Thursday (March 4, 1999) in Fall Creek.
She was born Ruth Adelle Frazier on Oct. 6, 1914, in Lebanon.
On Nov. 16, 1944, in Medford, she married Charles Friend, who died in 1970. She lived in Medford for 82 years.
Mrs. Friend and her husband owned a registered Hereford Ranch in the Rogue Valley. She also worked as an accounts receivable clerk for General Electric and ONC Fast Freight Co.
She was a member of AA for 38 years, the Gold Hill Grange for many years, and the Rebekah Lodge.
Mrs. Friend enjoyed fishing and hunting, gardening, gold-panning and mushroom hunting.
Survivors include two daughters, Maggie Osgood, Fall Creek, and Donna Gourley, Merlin; two sons, Gale Friend, Shady Cove, and David Davis, Goliad, Texas; a sister, Jetta Holman, Victorville, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
