Richard Leon McGuire
Richard Leon McGuire, 65, formerly of Medford, died Friday (March 12, 1999) of congestive heart failure, in Edmonds, Wash., where he was living. A memorial service will be held March 27 in Seattle.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Arc of Jackson County, 121 N. Central Ave., Medford, OR 97501, or to a local church.
He was born Sept. 20, 1933, in Pratt, Kan., and grew up in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Mr. McGuire graduated from Whitworth College, Spokane, Wash., in 1957.
On June 21, 1957, in Medford, he married Carolyn Coleman, who survives.
They owned and operated McGuire's Furniture Store in Medford in the early 1960s.
Mr. McGuire graduated from Phillips University Graduate Seminary, Enid, Okla., in 1968, and began what would become his life work in ministry.
His early ministry was highlighted by co-creating and providing leadership for the Spokane Nightwalk Program and Shalom Peace Church, UCC.
In 1978, he began serving as an executive secretary with the United Church of Christ Board for Homeland Ministries in New York City. His initial work was in new church development and evolved into the same endeavor with the Western Hispanic Ministries Team.
The McGuires retired to Edmonds in 1985.
Mr. McGuire served in the U.S. Army.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, golf and family gatherings.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Pamela Barnes and Jonica Low, both Edmonds; three sons, Bradley, Seattle, Michael, Spokane, and Brian, Fresno, Calif.; his mother, Maurine McGuire, Colorado Springs; a brother, Dean, Edmonds; a sister, Joyce Winston, Scottsdale, Ariz.; and 10 grandchildren.

D. Bruce Stanley
The memorial service for D. Bruce Stanley will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Siskiyou Chapel, Medford. The Rev. Robert Larson of Ascension Lutheran Church, Medford, will officiate. Private interment will be in Ocean View Cemetery, Astoria.
Mr. Stanley, 78, of Medford, died Wednesday (March 17, 1999) at his home.

He was born Feb. 17, 1921, in Hanna, Alberta, Canada. He grew up in Clatsop Plains and graduated from Seaside High School.
On Feb. 6, 1943, in Astoria, he married Virginia Mae Anet, who survives.
Mr. Stanley served in the U.S. Navy in the dental services during World War II and the Korean War.
He graduated from the Pacific Northwest Dental School, Portland, in 1944. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1947 from Astoria.
Mr. Stanley established a dental practice in Medford in 1947.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Debra Bond, Rogue River, and Leslie Quinney, Eugene; and five grandchildren.

Ruth Leah Carpenter
Ruth Leah Carpenter, 99, of Medford, died Tuesday (March 16, 1999) in Medford. No service is planned.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
She was born Ruth Halbeslaben on Oct. 19, 1899, in Wisconsin.
On Nov. 11, 1919, in Spokane, Wash., she married Royal E. Carpenter, who died in 1980.
Mrs. Carpenter lived in Newport, Wash., for 60 years before moving to Port Townsend, Wash. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1991 from Port Townsend.
She was a member of Pythian Sisters and the American Legion Auxiliary in Newport.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Reavis, Medford. A daughter, Bernice Johnson, died in 1993.

Martin C. Kees
The memorial service for Martin C. Kees will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 27, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 648 S. Ivy St., Medford.
Mr. Kees, 50, formerly of Medford, died March 5, 1999, in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, where he was living.

He was born Nov. 8, 1948, in Roseburg, and moved to Medford in 1956. After graduating from Medford Senior High School in 1966, he received drama scholarships and attended Southern Oregon College for two years.
On July 4, 1970, in Reno, he married Rena Cota, who survives.
He moved to California and was a U.S. mail carrier for four years.
Mr. Kees graduated from the School of Optometry at the University of California, Berkeley, with a doctorate in optometry in 1980. He then taught optometry at the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria, West Africa.
He opened an optometry practice in Vancouver, Wash., in 1982, then moved the practice to Tri-Cities, Wash.
In 1992, he opened a practice in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, where he worked closely with the Lions Club organizing a vision screening program for all Caymanian schools.
His favorite hobby was computer programming and several of his programs were published in Compute magazine.
Mr. Kees earned his PADI SCUBA certificate and enjoyed diving in the Caribbean Sea. He also enjoyed reading, chess and playing the guitar.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Erica Amy Kees, Grand Cayman; his mother, Helen Deuel, Medford; a brother, Eric, Medford; and two sisters, Threesa Milligan, Seattle, and Kathy Kees, Tucson, Ariz.

Thelma Perriman
Thelma "Jerry" Perriman, 90, of Medford, died Wednesday (March 10, 1999) at Hearthstone. No service is planned.

She was born Thelma Hart on Nov. 5, 1908, in DeLand, Ill.
On Feb. 22, 1925, she married David Eugene Perriman, who died in 1994.
They lived in Denver, Colo., then moved to Mexico and lived there many years before moving to various places in Southern California.
They lived in San Marcos, Calif., for many years, then in Escondido, Calif., until moving to Medford in 1993.
Mrs. Perriman was an avid reader and enjoyed all kinds of games and traveling.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Cavender, Rogue River; a son, David Jr., Albany, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Ebron `Jack' Griffitts
The funeral service for Ebron Elmer "Jack" Griffitts will be at 10 a.m. Friday at West Main Church of Christ in Medford. The Rev. Stan Johnson of West Main Church of Christ will officiate. Interment will be in Woodville Cemetery in Rogue River.
Mr. Griffitts, 83, of Central Point, died Tuesday (March 16, 1999) at Three Fountains Nursing Center in Medford.

He was born Dec. 22, 1915, in Pendleton. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1922 from Pendleton.
On Aug. 30, 1952, in Reno, Nev., he married Edna Louise Henney Lundy, who survives.
Mr. Griffitts was a bus driver for the Central Point School District for 30 years. He also worked as a log truck driver.
He was a member of the West Main Church of Christ and the Good Sam Travel Club.
Mr. Griffitts enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Clifford Randall, Eugene; a daughter, Sharon Lee Lindley, Salem; five stepsons, Cleon Henney, Norman Henney, and Thomas Henney, all Central Point, Michael Henney, Willamina, and James Henney, Weiser, Idaho;
22 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Clara Griffitts, Clora Griffitts, Olive Griffitts and Edna Kahl.
Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, 550 Business Park Drive, Medford.
Royal Paul Smith
The memorial service for Royal Paul Smith will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Central Valley Chapel. Stephen Steinmetz will officiate.
Mr. Smith, 62, of Central Point, died Saturday (March 13, 1999) at his home.

He was born Sept. 11, 1936, in Des Moines, Iowa. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Sacramento, Calif., in 1972.
On Feb. 22, 1986, in Central Point, he married Janice, who survives.
Mr. Smith worked for the Medford School District for 24 years.
He served in the U.S. Marines from 1954 to 1957.
Mr. Smith enjoyed reading, tennis, golf and cross stitch.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Diane Green and Teri Schauffler, both Eagle Point, and Mickey Schauffler, White City; two stepdaughters, Holly Hunt, Boring, and Jocelyn Evans, Vancouver, Wash.; a stepson, Scot Evans, Medford; two sisters, Barbara Whitten, Los Molinos, Calif., and Joy Smith, Rocklin, Calif.; a brother, Denny, Lakeport, Calif.; a half-brother, Jerry, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and 13 grandchildren.
