William Winn Reed

The memorial service for William Winn Reed will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Valley Rogue Christian Center, Rogue River. Pastor Dan Nichols will officiate. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Reed, 68, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday (March 10, 1999) at Three Rivers Community Hospital.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 380 S.E. Spokane, Suite 110, Portland, OR 97202 or the American Heart Association, 10 Crater Lake Ave., Suite 10, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Sept. 14, 1930, in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Mr. Reed moved to the Rogue Valley 56 years ago from Vacaville, Calif.

On June 20, 1996, in Grants Pass, he married Barbara Louise Lambert, who survives.

Mr. Reed worked for Southern Oregon Plywood-Banply in Grants Pass. Later he was auto parts manager for Alternator Starters Exchange.

During the Korean War, he served in the Army.

Mr. Reed was a member of Valley Rogue Christian Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2302. He enjoyed Western movies and traveling.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Wendy M. DeMaree, Grants Pass, Brenda J. Eichten, Dundee, and Debbie L. Weske, Springville, Utah; two sons, Steve R., Medford, and Randy W., Idanha; five stepdaughters, Janet Craston, Toni Toutant, Susan King, Liz Smith and Mary Brown; a stepson, Jim Luton; three brothers, Fred and Bob, both Grants Pass, and Carl, Anderson, Calif.; three sisters, Alberta Cates, Grants Pass, Winnie Taylor, Sacramento, Calif., and Dorothy Maakstead, in Washington; eight

grandchildren; and 15 step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Jean Reed in 1984; and a sister, Mary Boarman.

Addo John Kathol

The memorial service for Addo John Kathol, who operated the family's antique business, Jueden's Furniture store in downtown Medford for 20 years, will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Conger Morris Medford Chapel.

Mr. Kathol, 47, died Thursday (March 18, 1999) in Medford of a heart attack.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Heart Center, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504, or to Ducks Unlimited, 1 Waterfowl Way, Memphis, TN 38120-2351.

He was born March 13, 1952, in Sioux City, Iowa. The family moved to the Rogue Valley six years later.

He attended Sacred Heart and St. Mary's schools and also coached Babe Ruth and Little League baseball.

Later, he was a pitcher in city baseball leagues.

On Sept. 21, 1974, in Medford, he married Shari Kay McDonald, who survives.

In addition to the antique business, Mr. Kathol also owned the Arco gas station on Crater Lake Avenue for many years.

He was active in civic affairs, particularly those involved in downtown Medford development. He served on the Medford Parking Commission.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two brothers, Keith, Grants Pass, and Kelvin, Central Point; two sisters, Rhonda Brooks, Medford, and Claudette Croucher, Eagle Point; and his mother, Vivian Kathol, Medford. His father, Addo Kathol, died in 1968.

Lucille C. Schoppert

The memorial service for Lucille C. Schoppert will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First United Methodist Church of Medford. The Rev. C. Bunny Oliver will officiate. Inurnment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Schoppert, 88, of Medford, died Thursday (March 18, 1999) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 33 N. Central Ave., Suite 330, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born July 18, 1910, in Ashland, a daughter of Artie and Lucy Crews.

On June 27, 1931, in Salem, she married Lyle Robert Schoppert, who died in 1965.

The Schopperts owned and operated S & W Floor Covering in Ashland for many years.

Mrs. Schoppert was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Medford, where she was a member of its choir. She also enjoyed gardening and sewing.

Survivors include a son, Thomas Lyle, Gold Beach; two daughters, Susan Kaye Schoppert and Linda Lou Schoppert, both Gold Beach; a sister, Nelda Waters, Medford; and a brother, R. Wayne Crews, Palo Alto, Calif. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Carroll C. McGinnis

The memorial service for Carroll Cleo McGinnis will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Harvest Baptist Temple, Medford. Pastor Bob Gass will officiate.

Mr. McGinnis, 56, of Central Point, died Thursday (March 18, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Harvest Baptist Temple, Foreign Missionary Fund, 2001 S. Columbus Ave., Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Sept. 1, 1942, in Amarillo, Texas.

He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1997 from Amarillo.

Mr. McGinnis was a member of the Harvest Baptist Temple. Autistic, he enjoyed reading the Bible, swinging and light games.

Survivors include his father, Cleo, Medford; and his caregivers, Howard and Sally Hellyer, Central Point. Howard is his cousin.

Lilly Marie Sherman

The memorial service for Lilly Marie Sherman will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the First Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Kevin Gowland will officiate.

Mrs. Sherman, 67, of Medford, died Thursday (March 18, 1999) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of the Nazarene, Mission Fund, 1974 E. McAndrews Road, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Lilly Bodenstab on July 14, 1931, in North Bend.

On July 23, 1955, in Medford, she married Ronald Sherman, who died in 1997.

Mrs. Sherman was a secretary for Jackson County and later for First Church of the Nazarene for 20 years, of which she was a member.

Survivors include a son, Jeff, Medford; a daughter, Ronalee Knight, Lincoln City; her mother, Rita Bodenstab, Medford; a brother, John Bodenstab, Medford; and three grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from noon to 5 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Robert Vaughn

The memorial service for Robert Wiley "Buster" Vaughn will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Jacksonville Assembly of God. Pastors Terry Lattrell and William Turnbull will officiate.

Mr. Vaughn, 84, of Jacksonville, died Friday (March 19, 1999) in Medford.

He was born Feb. 11, 1915, in Raymond, Wash. On Aug. 2, 1941, in Reno, Nev., he married Lois Crawford, who survives.

He lived in the Rogue Valley for 50 years, 35 of which were in Jacksonville. He worked in lumber mills and for the Jackson County Road Department's bridge crew for many years.

He was a member of the Jacksonville Assembly of God Church.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Robert Jr., Central Point, Terry Lynn, Jacksonville, and John William, Central Point; a daughter, Patricia Ann Wickstrom, Bandon; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Leonard Blue

The memorial service for Leonard Anderson Blue will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday (March 23, 1999) at the Rogue Valley Manor. Don Hildebrand will officiate.

Mr. Blue, 91, of Medford, died Tuesday (March 16, 1999) at the Rogue Valley Manor.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rogue Valley Manor Foundation Employee Scholarship Fund, 1200 Mira Mar Ave., Medford, OR, 97504.

He was born April 24, 1907, in Baltimore, Md.

In 1933, he married Helen D. Judd, who died in 1980. In 1982, in New York City, he married Harriet "Happy" Dreekmeier, who survives.

Mr. Blue was a 1927 graduate of Cornell College in Iowa and received a law degree from Harvard Law School in 1930.

He joined the New York City law firm that is now Kelley, Drye and Warren in 1930, and remained with it as associate, partner, life partner and counsel for 67 years except for active duty in the U.S. Naval Reserve during World War II.

A trust expert with wide experience in investments and tax law, he was a member of The University Club and Harvard Club in New York City and a number of New York State Bar committees.

An avid bridge player, he also enjoyed walking and discussion groups. At his death he was working on his autobiography.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Donald, Los Angeles, and Frederic, Youngstown, Ohio; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

William Tyler

The funeral for William "Bill" Tyler will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday (March 23, 1999) at Siskiyou Chapel in Medford. The Rev. Steve Wright of the Calvary Baptist Church of Woodland, Calif., will officiate.

Mr. Tyler, 87, of Medford, died Thursday (March 18, 1999) at a Medford foster care home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

He was born Sept. 9, 1911, in Winesap, Wash. He grew up in Washington and studied at the Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and moved to the Rogue Valley in 1948.

Mr. Tyler was a forestry engineer with the Bureau of Land Management until retiring in 1977.

On May 15, 1977, in Reno, Nev., he married Virginia McClure, who survives.

He was a life member of Masonic Lodge 103 in Medford and a member of the Grants Pass lodge. He also had been a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.

In Washington, he had served as a Cub Scout master. He enjoyed singing and playing the guitar and organ.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four daughters, Sharon Wright, Sue Bailey, and Shirley Culver, all of Medford, and Barbara Tyler, Menlo Park, Calif.; a son, Ernest, Marysville, Wash.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His first wife, Thelma Tyler, preceded him in death.
