Eugene 'Gene' Hansen

The funeral for Eugene "Gene" Francis Hansen will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Mortuary. The Central Point Masonic and IOOF Lodge will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

Mr. Hansen, 77, of Medford, died Saturday (March 20, 1999) at a local foster home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center, Pediatrics Center, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born May 3, 1921, in Santa Barbara, Calif. He moved to Applegate when he was 8.

Mr. Hansen lived and farmed in the Rogue Valley for 69 years. He also volunteered at Rogue Valley Medical Center for 16 years, and was a life member of the auxiliary.

He was a life member of Central Point Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 193, and Mount Pitt Rebekah Lodge No. 167. He belonged to the Central Point Grange No. 698, 7th degree, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 135 in Central Point, the Scottish Rite Lodge in Medford and the Oregon Farm Bureau of Jackson County. He was a member of the Jackson County Cattleman's Association, and the Roxy Ann Gem and Mineral Inc. Rock Club in Central Point.

Mr. Hansen enjoyed raising cattle, fishing and rock hunting.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Powers, Ashland; and two nephews.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Marie Arlene Kuhn

The memorial service for Marie Arlene Kuhn will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Shady Cove. The Rev. Joel Watson will officiate.

Mrs. Kuhn, 82, of Shady Cove, died Sunday (March 21, 1999) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shady Cove Volunteer Fire & Ambulance, 22451 Highway 62, Shady Cove, OR 97539 or St. Martin's Church, 95 Cleveland St., Shady Cove, OR 97539.

She was born Marie Arlene Tibbils on Nov. 2, 1916, in Gold Hill, a daughter of Harry W. and Mabel H. Tibbils.

On Aug. 23, 1947, in Yuma, Ariz., she married Harry William Kuhn, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley from California 29 years ago.

Mrs. Kuhn was a volunteer for Loaves and Fishes. She also volunteered to raise funds for the Shady Cove Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Department.

She was a member of the Shady Cove Order of Eastern Star Lodge, and St. Martin's Episcopal Church.

Survivors include a sister, Annette Daugherty, Los Angeles, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Service-Siskiyou, Medford.

Ethelyn Grace Levy

Ethelyn Grace Levy, 89, of Gold Hill, died Thursday (March 18, 1999) at her home. A private service will be held.

She was born Ethelyn Grace Gordon on Jan. 22, 1910, in Ellsworth, Maine.

In 1985, in Nevada, she married Myron S. Levy, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Levy moved to the Rogue Valley from Gresham in 1974.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include a daughter, Gloria Bowker, Gold Hill; a son, Lloyd Kangas, Redding, Calif.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

William Burt Hair

The memorial service for William Burt Hair will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City, Calif.

Mr. Hair, 67, of Medford, died March 15, 1999, at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous, Jackson County Central Office, 110 E. Sixth St., Medford, OR 97501 or Project 90, 720 S. B St., Suite 3, San Mateo, CA 94401.

He was born June 13, 1931, in Seattle. He moved to the Rogue Valley two years ago from Foster City, Calif.

Mr. Hair was an engineer in the San Francisco area, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of the Tool & Die Makers Union in San Francisco.

Mr. Hair served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He enjoyed motorcycles and reading.

Survivors include a son, a daughter, and two grandchildren.

Ethel 'Jean' Gomer

The memorial service for Ethel Mabel "Jean" Gomer will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Mrs. Gomer, of Medford and Redmond, died March 16, 1999, at her Redmond home of congestive heart failure.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Association of Oregon, 3330 N.W. Yeon, Suite 1030, Portland, OR 97210.

Mrs. Gomer moved to Medford in 1957, where she owned and operated Modern Floor Covering until the mid-'80s. She lived in Medford and in Redmond with her husband, John Gomer, who survives.

She was a member of the Eastern Star in Greeley, Colo., and had received her 50-year pin.

Mrs. Gomer enjoyed the ocean, and owned a commercial fishing vessel, Jeanno. She also enjoyed camping.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Marylyn Gehrig, Anchorage, Alaska, and Betty Brewer, Troutdale; a sister, Nellie Harm, Roseburg; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Frances Elaine Sparks

The memorial service for Frances Elaine Sparks will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Cornerstone Christian Church, 608 N. Bartlett St., Medford. Pastor Stan Way will officiate.

Mrs. Sparks, 62, of Medford, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Oregon Humane Society, 2910 Table Rock Road, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Frances Elaine Brown on Nov. 15, 1936, in Boston.

She moved to the Rogue Valley 25 years ago from Southern California.

Mrs. Sparks was employed as a caregiver for Three Fountains Nursing Center for several years, and then at Farmington Square for the past several months until her death.

She was a member of Cornerstone Christian Church and enjoyed animals.

Survivors include a son, Daniel Sparks, Southern California; two daughters, Debbie Solinger and Dawn Sparks, also Southern California; two sisters, Sandra Fossen, Laguna Hills, Calif., and Mary Davey, Redding, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford.

Frances E. England

The funeral for Frances E. England will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Central Valley Chapel, Central Point. The Rev. J.C. Holden will officiate. Interment will be in the Rock Point Cemetery, Gold Hill.

Mrs. England, 73, of Gold Hill, died Wednesday (March 10, 1999) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Frances Butler on Aug. 3, 1925, in Arbyrd, Mo.

On June 14, 1948, in San Marcos, Texas, she married Jay B. England, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1961 from San Jose, Calif.

Mrs. England was a member of the Disabled American Veterans auxiliary. She enjoyed walking, fishing and gardening.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three sons, Jay B. Jr., Gold Hill, Bobby Lloyd, Lakeside, and Danny Jay, Yerington, Nev.; two daughters, Sharon Garrett and Karen Ricks, both Gold Hill; six brothers; six sisters; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Joe Butler; and a sister, Virginia Flaherty.

Friends may pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Central Valley Chapel.

Martel W. Peters

A memorial liturgy for Martel W. Peters will be held during the 10 a.m. Sunday service at the Ashand First Methodist Church. Private inurnment will be in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

Mr. Peters, 88, of Ashland, died Tuesday (March 9, 1999) at Linda Vista Care Center.

He was born March 4, 1911, in Stanford, Texas.

On Feb. 4, 1934, in Sayer, Okla., he married Zola Grace Donnelly, who died in 1984. They moved to Ashland in 1946 from Inglewood, Calif.

Mr. Peters operated a Union Oil station.

He was a member of the Ashland First Methodist Church, the Ashland Masonic Lodge where he was master in 1964-65, a high priest of the Royal Arch Masons, worthy patron of Alpha Chapter No. 1 Order of Eastern Star, and active in the Ashland Kiwanis Club.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Earline Robinson.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.
