Mildred Margaret Ward
The memorial service for Mildred Margaret Hazel Katherine Ward will be at 4 p.m. today in Living Praise Tabernacle Pentecostal Church of God in Central Point. Pastor Phil Gore of Living Praise Tabernacle will officiate. A gathering will follow the service at
the home of Peggy Shelton, 2705 Rogue River Highway, Gold Hill.
Mrs. Ward, 94, of Central Point, died Tuesday (April 6, 1999) at Three Fountains Nursing Center in Medford.

She was born Mildred Steinbring on April 19, 1904, in Denver, Colo.
Mrs. Ward was a member of the Olsen family, longtime residents of Gold Hill, where she attended school through the 4th grade.
In 1920, in Oakland, Calif., she married Albert Ward, who preceded her in death. She returned to the Rogue Valley from Seattle in 1969.
Mrs. Ward raised pomeranian dogs for 20 years, and was a member of the Kennel Club.
She was a member of the Living Praise Tabernacle Pentecostal Church of God.
Survivors include five sons, Tom, Gold Hill, Hank, Fremont, Calif., Wes, Groveland, Calif., Dan, Placerville, Calif., and Gary, Running Springs, Calif.; three daughters, Peggy Shelton, Gold Hill, Did Clark, Duvall, Wash., and Betty Doyle, Anchorage, Alaska; 30 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two sons, Albert and Richard Ward.

Hilda Nansen
Hilda Nansen, 86, of Medford, died April 3, 1999 at her home. No service is planned.
She was born Hilda Simon on May 20, 1912, in Germany.
In 1935, in Europe, she married John Nansen, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1991.
Mrs. Nansen was a model. She was "Miss Europe" in 1929, and modeled on a runway in Paris twice a year.
During World War II, she fought the Nazis as a member of the underground resistance. After her husband was captured, she helped him escape.
Following the war, she moved to the United States, where she pursued a real estate sales career in California.

Samuel Gordon Colton
Samuel Gordon Colton, 94, of Medford, died Friday (April 2, 1999) at his home. No service is planned.

He was born Sept. 6, 1904, in Kremnitz, Russia.
On March 10, 1935, in Portland, he married Fyrne Wood, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Portland in 1925.
Mr. Colton owned and operated Your Office Boy office stationery and supply company on West Main Street from 1927 until he retired in 1988.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Hillah Temple, and was on the board of the Salvation Army in Medford.
He enjoyed aiding stranded travelers.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Gary Wood Colton, Medford; and a daughter, Jacque Lynn Colton, Burbank, Calif. He was preceded in death by a brother, and a stepbrother.

Pat T. Lee
The memorial service for Pat T. Lee will be at 1 p.m. today in Rogue Valley Christian Church in Medford. Pastor Jim Larsen of Rogue Valley Christian Church will officiate.
Mrs. Lee, 83, of Medford, died Monday (April 5, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

She was born Pat Knoch on March 24, 1916, in Manton, Mich.
On Oct. 28, 1931, in Lake City, Mich., she married Clarence Phillips, who preceded her in death.
In 1953, in Phoenix, Ariz., she married Gilbert E. Lee, who preceded her in death. She lived in Oregon for 47 years, most of which was spent in Medford.
Mrs. Lee retired from Blackbird in Medford where she worked as a shoe salesperson.
Most important to her was caring for her family, her friends, her cats and her dog.
Survivors include three sons, Robert "Bob" Phillips, Medford, Larry Lee, Medford, and Gary Phillips, Marietta, Ga.; five daughters, Sherry Bradley, Medford, Sharla Taylor, Ashland, Lynette Paczolt, Ocala, Fla., and Dorothy Campanall and Faith Dolese, both of Picayune, Miss.; two brothers, Walter Knoch, Cedar Springs, Mont., and Richard Knoch, Foley, Ala.; two sisters, Eva Davis, Lansing, Mich., and Marion Dunham, Highland, Mich.; 29 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three daughters, Shirley May, Roma Jean and Annette Kay; a son, Jerald Edwin; four brothers, Clarence, Chester, Homer and Norman; and a sister, Nellie.
Friends may pay their respects from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. today at Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, 550 Business Park Drive, Medford.
Viola E. Falske
The funeral for Viola E. Falske will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Rose Hills Memorial Chapel in Whittier, Calif.
Mrs. Falske, 88, of Shady Cove, died Wednesday (April 7, 1999) in Shady Cove.
She was born Viola E. Barsness on Jan. 2, 1911, in Evansville, Minn.
On May 10, 1939, in Chicago, she married LeRoy W. Falske, who died in 1978. She moved to the Rogue Valley 14 years ago from California.
Mrs. Falske was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Eagle Point.
Survivors include two sons, Donald D. Sather, Shady Cove, and Darrel L. Falske, Roseburg; two daughters, Darlene J. Falske, Shady Cove, and Deanna Gordon, Long Beach, Calif.; a brother, Alton Vernon Monroe Barsness, Long Beach, Calif.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mary Ada Wise
The memorial and graveside service for Mary Ada Wise will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Ira Melott of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Crater Lake Congregation will officiate.
Mrs. Wise, 92, of Medford, died Tuesday (April 6, 1999) in Medford.
She was born Mary Ada McPheeters on March 6, 1907, in East Liverpool, Ohio.
On Aug. 9, 1927, in New Cumberland, W. Va., she married Chester A. Wise, who died in 1970. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Pennsylvania in 1952.
Mrs. Wise was nurse's aide for over 20 years with Rogue Valley Manor.
She enjoyed crocheting, reading, gardening and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte Thomas, Central Point, and Jane Bock, Red Bluff, Calif.; a son, Paul, Roseburg; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers; a sister; and two great-grandchildren.

`Van' Van Nortwick
The memorial service for Ralph "Van" Van Nortwick will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 44 N. Second St., Ashland. The Revs. Cliff Blinman and Don Eaton will officiate.
Mr. Van Nortwick, 74, of Phoenix, died Tuesday (April 6, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born May 26, 1924, in Portland. He moved to Seattle in 1931, and to Washington in 1941. He received a degree in music from the University of Washington in Seattle.
During World War II, Mr. Van Nortwick served in the U.S. Navy.
On Jan. 9, 1955, in Seattle, he married Ann Elizabeth Drysdale, who died in 1996.
Mr. Van Nortwick worked for Washington Natural Gas in Seattle from 1957 to 1970. Then he moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where he worked for Enstar Natural Gas for 17 years, retiring in 1987. He was instrumental in establishing the route for the Iron Dog Races from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska. He moved to Phoenix from Alaska in 1992.
On May 9, 1997, in Yreka, Calif., he married Virginia Carol Dickie, who survives.
Mr. Van Nortwick was a gemologist and enjoyed photography, golf and travel.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Matt, Chicago, Daniel, Chaing Mai, Thailand; two daughters, Jill Lyman, Eagle River, Alaska, and Kari Green, Spokane; a stepson, Andrew Moyer, San Diego; three stepdaughters, Jacquelin Fischer, Portland, Janice McGriff, Quantico, Va., and Stephanie Moyer, Columbus, Ohio; three brothers, Jack, Kingman, Ariz., Jerry, Pleasanton, Texas, and Gene, San Antonio; a sister, Betty Poore, Carrolton, Ga.; and eight grandchildren.

Verna Grace Simpson
The memorial service for Verna Grace Simpson will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Royal Oak Retirement Residence, 2180 Poplar Drive, Medford. The Rev. Marion Clarkson will officiate.
Mrs. Simpson, 90, of Medford, died Friday (April 2, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
She was born Verna Grace Odell on Aug. 4, 1908, in Valleyford, Wash.
On Nov. 20, 1935, in McMinnville, she married Rafael Simpson, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley 20 years ago from California.
Mrs. Simpson was a member of the Rogue Valley Country Club.
She enjoyed music, playing the piano and singing.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Pamela Barry, Hood River; and a grandson, Steven Simpson, Modesto, Calif.
