Alvin `Pete' Donals
The memorial service for Alvin "Pete" Charles Donals will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Medford Moose Lodge, 226 N. Ross Lane, Medford.
Mr. Donals, 74, of Livermore, Calif., formerly of Medford, died March 24, 1999, at San Ramon Regional Medical Center in California.
He was born June 15, 1924, in Rochester, N.Y.
Mr. Donals was a maintenance mechanic for four years.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.
Mr. Donals enjoyed fishing and shooting pool.
Survivors, include his wife, Catherine L. Donals, Medford; two daughters, Linda Ponnequin, Livermore, Calif., and Dawn Moore, Ventura, Calif.; three sons, Allen C., Applegate, Robert J., Medford, and Paul Arnett, Medford; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Thelma McCurdy-Smith
The memorial service for Thelma B. (Griffith) McCurdy-Smith will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the River Valley Community Church in Grants Pass. Inurnment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Grants Pass.
Mrs. McCurdy-Smith, 85, of Davis, Calif., formerly of Grants Pass and Medford, died Friday (April 9, 1999) in Davis.
She was born Thelma Beagle on Oct. 4, 1913, in Olympia, Wash. The Beagle family moved to Grants Pass in 1919.
In 1947, she moved to Medford, where she worked for Farmers Insurance agencies.
On April 1, 1948, in Medford, she married Lloyd "Pat" McCurdy, who preceded her in death. The McCurdys owned a small peach orchard in Phoenix. Mrs. McCurdy returned to Grants Pass in 1972, and moved to Davis in 1995.
Survivors include a son, Doug Griffith, Davis; a daughter, Laura Griffith Kolstad, Olds, Alberta, Canada; three grandsons; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter and two grandchildren.

Cecil H. Doty
The memorial service for Cecil H. Doty will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church in Central Point.
Mr. Doty, 77, of Central Point, died Monday (April 12, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
He was born April 6, 1922, in Stockton, Calif.
On July 11, 1992, in Reno, Nev., he married Anne Leverette, who survives. He moved to the Central Point-Medford area 17 years ago from California.
Mr. Doty was a circus clown for many years.
He was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge.
Mr. Doty enjoyed collecting American Indian artifacts.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a brother, Robert, Petaluma, Calif.; five stepchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; and 20 step-great-grandchildren.

Walter James Fipps
The funeral for Walter James Fipps will be at 2 p.m. today in Siskiyou Chapel, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford. The graveside service will follow at Siskiyou Memorial Park. Pastor Rick Cohen of Applegate Christian Fellowship will officiate.
Mr. Fipps, 76, of Medford, died Sunday (April 11, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 26, 1923, in Okeechobee, Fla. Mr. Fipps came to the Rogue Valley as a young man with the Civil Conservation Corps.
On March 25, 1943, in Medford, he married Martha Jane Rock, who survives.
Mr. Fipps was a timber faller for many years, and worked for KOGAP Manufacturing for more than 30 years, retiring in 1990. He owned and maintained several rental houses in the area, using his woodworking and carpentry skills.
He enjoyed hunting, gardening and beekeeping.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Shirley Young, Medford, and Lori Erickson, Central Point; three sons, Gary and Walter, both Medford, and Ronald, Phoenix; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Lee; and a sister, Mildred Cruce.

Roger E. Kimmel
The memorial service for Roger E. Kimmel will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Rogue River Kingdom Hall, 181 W. Evans Creek, Rogue River.
Mr. Kimmel, 55, of Rogue River, died April 5, 1999, at his home.
He was born April 10, 1943, in Alma, Wis.
On April 1, 1967, in Oceanside, Calif., he married Anne Sterner, who survives. They moved to Grants Pass in 1980 from Oceanside, and then to Rogue River four years ago.
Mr. Kimmel was a self-employed auctioneer.
He attended the Rogue River Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Mr. Kimmel enjoyed playing the guitar, writing poetry and computers.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a brother, Glen, Pepin, Wis.; two sisters, Leila Lowenhagen, Alma, and Marlene Tieman, Arkansas Pass, Texas.
He was also survived by his mother, Lorena Morris, who died two days later on April 7, 1999.

Nina Lee Crawford
The funeral for Nina Lee Crawford will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel.
Mrs. Crawford, of Medford, died April 10, 1999, at her home.
She was born Nina Crump on Feb. 20, 1911, in Wetumpka, Okla.
In January, 1930, in Oklahoma, she married John F. Crawford, who preceded her death. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1993 from the San Fernando Valley in California.
Mrs. Crawford was a homemaker.
She enjoyed crocheting afghans and making beaded jewelry.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan Stephens, Medford, five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Scholz.

Archer H. Watson Jr.
The memorial service for Archer Hunter Watson Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Light of Life Lutheran Church, Aloha. Interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park in Oklahoma City.
Mr. Watson, 85, of Aloha, formerly of Medford, died Monday (April 12, 1999) in Hillsboro of pneumonia.

He was born June 14, 1913, in Hollister, Okla. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in business and economics.
On May 28, 1938, in Oklahoma City, he married Sarah Little, who survives. Mr. Watson moved to Medford from Oklahoma City in 1953, and moved to Aloha in 1989.
Mr. Watson worked in sales and marketing before becoming an analyst-statistician with the Jackson County Assessors Office. He retired in 1979.
During World War II he served in the Army as a commissioned officer, and served in Italy. He continued military service in the Army Reserves, retiring as a major in 1973.
In Medford, Mr. Watson was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Rogue Valley Genealogy Society, the Rogue Eagles, and R.C. model airplane club. He was a life member of Kiwanis, having served as the Pacific Northwest District area coordinator for the Special Kiwanis Youth (SKY) club.
Mr. Watson was a ham radio operator, K7GTY. During the holidays, he also volunteered as Mr. Santa.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Albert M., Aloha; a daughter, Catherine Rogosin, Salem; a foster son, Jeff Whitehead, Aloha; and a grandson. A son, Archer H. Watson III, preceded him in death.

Connie E. Mathewson
The memorial service for Connie E. Mathewson will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Chapel. Pastor Arbee Freeman of Faith Christian Center will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.
Mrs. Mathewson, 46, of White City, died Saturday (April 10, 1999) at her home.
She was born Connie E. Gibson on Oct. 2, 1952, in Roseburg. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Roseburg and graduated from Eagle Point High School in 1971.
In 1971, in Medford, she married Randy Dean Mathewson, who survives.
Mrs. Mathewson was a member of Faith Christian Center in Medford.
She was past president and founder of "The Chatter Box," a women's group that raised money for various organizations and charities.
Mrs. Mathewson enjoyed sewing and gardening.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Israel Dean, Medford, and Noah Kenneth, Phoenix; her father, Ralph Gibson, Central Point; her mother, Carol Gundlach, White City; four sisters, Evonne Gibson, Central Point, Holly Strawn, Medford, and Evelyn Brown and Debbie Mackey, both White City; five brothers, Wayne Gibson, Central Point, Chuck Gibson, Riddle, Ron Gibson, Oakridge, Eddie Gibson, Canyonville, and Gary Gibson, Junction City; her grandmother, Ethel Dillon, Ashland; and two grandchildren.
