Joseph Sterling Tolson
The funeral Mass for Joseph Sterling Tolson will be at 8 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, Ashland. The Rev. Brendan McAnerney will officiate. Interment will follow in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
The Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.
Mr. Tolson, 81, of Ashland, died Wednesday (April 14, 1999) at his home.

He was born June 28, 1917, in Winston, Va. He was a longtime resident of Washington, D.C., where he was raised.
On March 7, 1937, in Washington, D.C., he married Frances Miller, who survives.
Mr. Tolson worked at the U.S. Postal Service from 1936 until retiring in 1971, when he moved to Ridge, Md. In September of 1998, he moved to Ashland.
After his retirement, he began a second career in community service. He served nine years on the board of directors for St. Mary's Nursing Home in Leonardtown, Md. During his last four years on the board he served as chairman and provided leadership during the building of a new facility.
Mr. Tolson was also a lay minister at St. Michael's Church in Ridge for more than 14 years.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy, stationed at Solomon's Island, Md.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 38 years, and was active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Ridge Lions Club. He was a member of the Society for the Preservation of St. Ignatius, Church of St. Inigoes, Maryland. He also worked on the restoration and maintenance of the church, which was built in 1785 and is on the National Register of Historic Trust.
He was an avid fisherman and all-around handyman.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Michele E. Jones, Medford, Yvonne C. Tolson, Hayward, Calif., Francine L. Tolson, Falls Church, Va.; three brothers, Jerome F., Waldorf, Md., Vincent L., Warrenton, Va., and Lawrence V., Linden, Va.; and three grandchildren.
Friends may pay their respects from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home in Ashland.
Harry Wilder Moore
The graveside service for Harry Wilder Moore will be at 11 a.m. today in Siskiyou Memorial Park. The Revs. John Braund and B.J. Holland, of First Presbyterian Church of Phoenix and Ashland Masonic Lodge No. 23 A.F. & A.M., respectively, will officiate.
The memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Phoenix.
Mr. Moore, 72, of Medford, died Monday (April 12, 1999) at his home.

He was born Feb. 6, 1927, in St. Petersburg, Fla. He lived in the Rogue Valley for the past 30 years.
Mr. Moore owned and operated AA Rent-A-Car in Medford. He also worked as a security guard for Action Auto Parts in Central Point.
He was an elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Phoenix. He also was a member of the Ashland Masonic Lodge No. 23 A.F. & A.M., and a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Alpha Chapter No. 1 in Ashland.
Mr. Moore enjoyed classic cars and garage sales and was a member of the Crater Lake Regional Group Horseless Carriage Club of America.
He is survived by his companion, Elizabeth Keene, Medford; a son, Greg Moore, California; a daughter, Cheryl Moore, California; and a sister, Marguerite Moore Blanchard, Chagrin Falls, Ohio. He was preceded in death by one brother, Samuel H. Moore, in 1985; and two sisters, Patricia Marie Holstein, in 1979, and Annie Laurie in 1998.

William J. Bush
The memorial gathering for retired U.S. Navy Capt. William J. Bush will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the family home, 2913 El Dorado Drive, Medford. Inurnment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Bush, 83, of Medford, died Wednesday (April 14, 1999) at his home.

He was born Sept. 10, 1915, in Mount Vernon, Wash.
On Nov. 4, 1972, in Treasure Island, Calif., he married Virginia Littel Carson, who survives.
Mr. Bush served in the U.S. Navy for 26 years, retiring as a captain in 1958. He was on board the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, where he led a rescue of men from the water. He later served as a submarine skipper in the Pacific war zone. On Dec. 7, 1991, he was honored to attend the 50th anniversary ceremonies at Pearl Harbor conducted by President George Bush.
After his retirement from the Navy, he began his second career as a Realtor in Marin County, Calif.
Mr. Bush and his wife were co-owners of Home and Land Mortgage with offices in Medford and Ashland.
He enjoyed fishing, reading, cribbage, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include five daughters, Cristine Kohler, Medford, Sheri Clinchard, Pleasanton, Calif., Cathie Iverson, San Rafael, Calif., Judy Ataie, Danville, Calif., and Alexandra Calhoon, San Ramon, Calif.; a son, Scott Carson, Truckee, Calif.; a brother, Gene, Crystal River, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret G. Bush.

James Sylvester Woods
James Sylvester Woods, 72, of Medford, died April 8, 1999, at his home. A service will be held later at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
He was born Oct. 7, 1926, in Medford, a son of Alvin C. and Pauline (Shewey) Woods.
On June 2, 1990, in Gold Hill, he married Rachel E. Rodabaugh, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley nine years ago from Washington.
Mr. Woods was a long-haul truck driver for various freight companies for 43 years. He drove for Mathieson Trucking of Seattle from 1984 until his retirement in 1989.
He enjoyed fishing and camping.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Douglas J., Gresham, and Scott, Shelton, Wash.; two daughters, Linda P. Smith, Sumner, Wash., and Susan Woods, Kent, Wash.; four stepdaughters, Lonnie Ainsworth, Medford, Paula Smith, Central Point, Nellie Wilkes, Phoenix, and Irma Larson, Wasilla, Alaska; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Marion Ilean Walker
Marion I. Walker, 78, of Talent, died Monday (April 12, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A private graveside service was held. Interment was in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

She was born Marion Brandow on Sept. 28, 1920, in Antigo, Wis. She moved to Ashland from Wisconsin in the 1940s.
Mrs. Walker was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Larry George, Vancouver, Wash.; two brothers, Earl Brandow, Chula Vista, Calif., and Roy Brandow, Milwaukee; and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, George R. Walker, in 1968.

Ronald Jessie Sweet
The memorial service for Ronald Jessie Sweet will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Interfaith Chapel at the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary in White City. Chaplain Wayne Bell will officiate.
Mr. Sweet, 51, of Medford, died April 3, 1999, at his home.
He was born June 16, 1947, in El Paso, Texas. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1998 from Sacramento, Calif.
On July 19, 1998, at the V.A. Domiciliary, he married Cynthia Harris, who survives.
Mr. Sweet was a disabled veteran. He served in Vietnam.
He enjoyed arts and crafts, swimming, fishing and hunting.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his parents, Leroy and Theola Sweet.

`Jim' Pierce
The graveside service for Parnell James "Jim" Pierce will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. Following the service, a wake will be held at the family home.
Mr. Pierce, 75, of Central Point, died Tuesday (April 13, 1999) at his home.

He was born Nov. 3, 1923, in Omaha, Neb.
On Dec. 18, 1976, in Medford, he married Evelyn Dickey, who survives. He lived in the Rogue Valley for 69 years.
Mr. Pierce worked in machinery maintenance for Medco for 40 years.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in France and Germany.
Mr. Pierce was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Medford Eagles.
He attended the Central Point First Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Pierce enjoyed gardening and writing poetry.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Terry, Medford, and David, Juneau, Alaska; four daughters, Diana Pennington, Rogue River, Madeline Reader, Debora Magie, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Angela Pierce, Sparks, Nev.; three stepchildren; his mother, Marie Allen, Medford; a sister, Marjorie Martin, Inverness, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Harold.

Dorothy L. Totten
Dorothy L. Totten, 87, of Bay City, formerly of Medford and Ashland, died Wednesday (April 14, 1999) in Tillamook. No service is planned.
She was born Dorothy Long on Jan. 19, 1912, in Spokane, Wash.
In 1939, she married Kenneth E. Ballweg, who died in 1952. She lived in Medford from 1952 to 1979, and in Ashland from 1979 to 1995, after which she moved to Tillamook.
Mrs. Totten was a beautician until the early 1970s. In 1973, she became an ordained minister of the Two Worlds Fellowship Church. She worked various job until the mid-1980s, when she devoted her life to teaching her faith.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Ballweg, Bay City; a daughter, Ruth Ballweg, Seattle; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Jean Carroll, in 1991.
