Frances Port Clark
The graveside service for Frances Port Clark will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Jacksonville Cemetery. The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at 853 Ascot Drive, Eugene.
Mrs. Port, 78, of Eugene, formerly of Ashland, the Applegate Valley, and Medford, died Saturday (April 17, 1999) in Portland.

She was born Frances Port on Oct. 11, 1920, in Ashland, a daughter of Maude and Lee Port Jr. She was raised in the Applegate Valley and graduated from Ashland High School.
Mrs. Clark received a bachelor's degree in home economics in 1942 and a master's degree in home economics and education in 1948 from Oregon State University.
On June 10, 1943, at Starr Ranger Station in the Applegate Valley, she married Harland Clark, who survives. She moved to Eugene in 1951.
Mrs. Clark was a professor. She taught a variety of subjects at schools across the state, including 16 years of child development at the University of Oregon, and at Lane Community College.
She was a founding director of Child Care, Inc., a Eugene nonprofit organization dedicated to providing quality child care. She also played a key role in establishing Head Start programs in Oregon and was active in the League of Women Voters.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Megan Clark-Davis, Lake Oswego.

Russell Loren Biswell
The memorial service for Russell Loren Biswell will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary Chapel. Chaplain Jerry Gilmer will officiate. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Biswell, 66, of White City, died Monday (April 19, 1999) at the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary.
He was born Feb. 19, 1933, in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Mr. Biswell was an electrician.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1957.
Survivors include a brother, Walter Steven Biswell.

Leola Mae Phillips
The graveside service for Leola Mae Phillips will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Hill Top Cemetery in Independence. The Rev. Gordon Myers of Assembly of God in Creswell and Rev. Lance Lovlin of Medford First Assembly of God will officiate. A memorial service was held.
Mrs. Phillips, 78, of Medford, died Saturday (April 17, 1999), in Northridge Center in Medford.

She was born Leola Mae Simning on Feb. 21, 1921, in Ione, Wash.
In 1942, in Ione, she married David Wayne Phillips, who died in 1989. She moved to the Rogue Valley three years ago from Salem.
Mrs. Phillips was a minister's wife and did missionary work around the world. She was also a Sunday school teacher and day-care director for 38 years, retiring in 1979.
She was a member of the First Assembly of God in Medford.
Mrs. Phillips enjoyed fishing, reading and crocheting.
Survivors include three daughters, Rochell Lovlin, Medford, Teri Myers, Creswell, and Deborah Barrans, Salem; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Terrance James Crum
The graveside service for Terrance James Crum will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. Pastor Robert Talmadge of Eureka, Calif., will officiate.
Mr. Crum, 53, of Medford, died March 26, 1999, at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
He was born June 19, 1945, in Butte, Mont.
Mr. Crum was a carpenter before his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors include a son, Sage Rambalski-Crum, Eureka, Calif.; and two sisters, Jacqueline Stock, in Georgia, and Kathy Jacobson, Lynnwood, Wash.

Gail Ellen Manteufel
Gail Ellen Manteufel, 62, of Ashland, died Saturday (April 17, 1999) at Linda Vista Care Center in Ashland. A memorial service was held. Private inurnment will be in Rest Haven Mausoleum, Mountain View Cemetery, Ashland.
She was born Gail Randolph on April 10, 1937, in Pacific Grove, Calif. She moved to Ashland from California in September 1998.
Survivors include her husband, Roy, Ashland; a daughter, Sheree Powers, Ashland; a son, Randy, Salinas, Calif.; her mother, Margaret Randolph, Eatonville, Wash.; four sisters, Janet Berube, Renee Danelon, and Judy Howell, all of Salinas, and Diane Randolph of San Francisco; and three grandchildren.

Robert P. Babcock
The memorial service for Robert P. Babcock will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Florence Elks Lodge.
Mr. Babcock, 73, of Florence, formerly of Ashland, died Saturday (April 17, 1999) in Florence.

He was born Dec. 11, 1925, in Wells.
Mr. Babcock owned and operated Willamette Marble in Springfield. After selling the business in 1995, he moved to Ashland, where he lived for three and a half years.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS West Virginia.
Mr. Babcock was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, where he was a past exalted ruler of Medford Lodge No. 1168.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jean Babcock, Florence; a daughter, Joy Babcock Wright; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Bruce, in 1995.

Veeda G. Allen
The memorial service for Veeda Allen will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Cornerstone Church in Beaverton.
Mrs. Allen, 57, of Aloha, formerly of Grants Pass, died Friday (April 16, 1999) in Aloha, after a lengthy illness.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
She was born Veeda Aldrich on Nov. 27, 1941, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was raised in Ohio and Idaho, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School.
On April 22, 1989, in Portland, she married Roy L. Allen, who survives. She moved to Grants Pass in 1991.
Mrs. Allen was a legal secretary for attorney Robert Dewey in Grants Pass for several years.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Kevin Austin, Boise, Idaho; a daughter, Sherri Jackson, Boise; her mother, Lucille Aldrich, Santa Clara, Calif.; a brother, Norman Aldrich, Bonners Ferry, Idaho; two sisters, Wanda Von Holle, Cincinnati, and Sharron Kaufman of Nevada; and four grandchildren.

Naomi Alveretta Guss
The chapel service for Naomi Alveretta Guss will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Hillcrest Mortuary. Pastor George Nye of Eastwood Baptist Church will officiate.
Mrs. Guss, 84, of Medford, died Sunday (April 18, 1999) in Medford.

She was born Naomi Alveretta Ham on Oct. 15, 1914, in Ferndale, Wash.
On Dec. 16, 1931, in Girard, Kan., she married Henry T. Guss, who died in 1983. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Kansas in 1946.
Mrs. Guss was a homemaker. When she was younger, she worked in packing houses and restaurants.
In Medford, she belonged to the Olive Rebekah Lodge No. 28 and the Order of the Eastern Star, Reames Chapter No. 66.
Mrs. Guss enjoyed sewing, crafts and gardening.
Survivors include two sons, Leon, Medford, and Irvan, Portland; a daughter, Juanita Atkins, Medford; a brother, Dale Ham, Parson, Kansas; two sisters, June Peterson, Humboldt, Kansas, and Doris Wright, Wichita, Kansas; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel.
