Elizabeth Merle Casey

The memorial service for Elizabeth Merle Casey will be at 12:30 p.m. Sunday in Hope Presbyterian Church in Rogue River. Pastor Norman Van Manen will officiate. Inurnment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mrs. Casey, 91, of Rogue River, died Monday (April 19, 1999) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue River Community Center, 132 Broadway, Rogue River, OR 97537.

She was born Elizabeth Clark on Feb. 25, 1908, in Kalispell, Mont. She moved to the Rogue Valley 25 years ago from Sequim, Wash.

Mrs. Casey was a homemaker.

In Rogue River, she was a member of the Civic Club, the Presbyterian Women's Association, and the Garden Club. She also belonged to the Birthday Club of Foots Creek, and the Golden Friendship Club.

Mrs. Casey was a charter member of the Rogue River Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, the past Matron Club of Grants Pass, and the Zata Alpha Sorority of the University of Washington.

Survivors include two nephews, David Clark, Seattle, and Roger Clark, Valley Center; and a brother, Robert Clark, Kalispell, Mont. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Casey, in 1986.

Robert Henry Virtue

Robert Henry Virtue, 81, of Springfield, formerly of Grants Pass and the Rogue Valley, died March 5, 1999, in Springfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to McKenzie Rural Fire Protection District, 38925 McKenzie Highway, Springfield, OR 97478.

He was born March 11, 1917, in Grants Pass, a son of Frederic and Josephine Virtue. He graduated from Central Point High School.

On May 12, 1947, in Medford, he married Dorothy Millhouse, who died in 1983. He lived in the Rogue Valley until 1954, when the family moved to Eugene.

On Jan. 14, 1963, in Eugene, he married Joyce Davidson, who survives.

Mr. Virtue was a beverage manager at the Medford Hotel, the Eugene Hotel, and the Thunderbird Motel and Restaurant in Eugene.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in air recovery.

Mr. Virture was a member of the Eugene Elks Lodge.

He enjoyed driving his RV, gardening, fishing and reading about the Civil War.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Mark, Dayton, Ore.; four daughters, Linda Molson, Tualatin, Pamela Virtue, Scottsdale, Ariz., Deborah Bozanich, Port Ludlow, Wash., and Shelle Cooke, Columbus, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred; and a sister, Ellen Snyder.

Clarence L. Wels

Clarence Wels, 94, of Medford, died Sunday (April 18, 1999) at his home. The memorial service was held earlier. Interment was in Sterlingville Cemetery in Jacksonville.

He was born Nov. 1, 1904, in Dubuque, Ill.

Mr. Wels was a self-employed farmer until his retirement.

He enjoyed farming and his family.

Survivors include two sons, Jim, Medford, and Leroy, Prescott, Ariz.; three daughters, Yolanda Jones, Prescott Valley, Ariz., Cheryl Brandjes, Humboldt, Ariz., and Debbie Sylvia, Prescott, Ariz.; a brother, Alvin, Gardena, Calif.; a sister, Marjorie Wels, Phoenix, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Buford; a daughter, Leola Goble; and two sisters, Edna Wels and Peggy Burrell.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Roy Eskew

The funeral for Roy Eskew will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Hillcrest Memorial Chapel in Medford. Pastor C. Bunny Oliver of Medford First United Methodist Church will officiate.

Mr. Eskew, 97, of Medford, died Wednesday (April 21, 1999) in Medford.

He was born Oct. 31, 1901, in Peabody, Kan.

On June 1, 1926, in Coldwater, Kan., he married Dorothy O. Perkins, who survives. He moved to Gold Hill from Kansas in 1938.

Mr. Eskew began working at a very early age, including working for the Santa Fe Railroad in Kansas. He also farmed and worked teams of horses building roads.

He retired after 27 years as a mechanic with the Ideal Cement Plant in Gold Hill.

He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and dancing at the Social Benefit Club of Medford.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Beth Ness, Trail, and Donna Johnson, Sacramento; four sons, Duane, Coos Bay, Roland, Clovis, Calif., Gerald, Albuquerque, N.M., and Larry, Santa Maria, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. today at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel in Medford.

Elizabeth L. Gregory

Elizabeth Louise Gregory, 89, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (April 20, 1999) at Highland House Nursing & Rehabilitation. A private service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rogue Valley Humane Society, 1169 A Redwood Ave., Grants Pass, OR 97526.

She was born Elizabeth Louise Simpson on March 26, 1910, in Salem, N.Y.

On April 28, 1936, in Troy, N.Y., she married Martin M. Gregory, who died in 1986. She moved to Rogue River from Southern California in 1976, and then to Grants Pass in 1990.

Mrs. Gregory traveled extensively while her husband served in the U.S. Navy.

She was an accomplished pianist and organist.

Mrs. Gregory was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rogue River and Southern California, and played the organ at both churches while attending.

She enjoyed reading, and was a skilled artist, specializing in pencil sketches.

Survivors include three nephews, Allen Gregory, Talent, Malcolm Gregory, Grants Pass, and Bruce Gregory, Bellflower, Calif. She was preceded in death by a brother, Willard Simpson, in 1997.

Justin Michael Perez

The graveside service for Justin Michael Perez will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at 17263 Redwood Highway, in Selma.

Justin, 5, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (April 20, 1999) at Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland.

He was born Oct. 22, 1993, in West Covina, Calif. His family moved to Grants Pass on April 5, 1999, from Diamond Bar, Calif.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Lisa and Glen Campbell, Grants Pass; his father, Michael Perez, Los Angeles; a sister, Darcy Perez, Grants Pass; his grandparents, Virginia and Joe Beteta, Walnut, Calif., Art and Sylvia Perez, Hacienda Heights, Calif., Russ and Maryann Campbell, Glen Rock, N.J., and Nancy Schneider, Monroe, N.Y.; great-grandparents, Mary and Ed Halguin, and Leonor Sequeira, all of La Puente, Calif., Celia Helguera, Los Angeles, and Art and Helen Perez, Pico Rivera, Calif.; and a great-great-grandmother, Berta Escorcia, La Puente, Calif.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Maxine L. Jordan

The funeral for Maxine L. Jordan will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Siskiyou Chapel, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford. The Rev. Ray Elam of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Medford will officiate.

Mrs. Jordan, 69, of Medford, died Tuesday (April 20, 1999) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to ACCESS, P.O. Box 4666, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Maxine Hemmestad on July 23, 1929, in Brookings County, S.D.

In Minnesota, she married Donald V. Jordan, who survives. She lived in Minnesota until 1954, when she moved to Portland. In 1963, she moved to the Rogue Valley.

In Portland, the couple owned and operated restaurants. In Medford, they operated the Holland Hotel and what is now Maxy's Restaurant.

Mrs. Jordan was a former member of the Soroptimist Club of Medford, and the Sons of Norway.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Randall C., Salem; and a daughter, Roxanne L. Van Hess, Salem.

Friends may pay their respects from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Siskiyou Chapel.

Esther M. Segner

Esther Segner, 87, of Ashland, died Sunday (April 18, 1999) at Linda Vista Care Center in Ashland. A memorial service will take place this summer in Maple Lake, Minn.

She was born Esther Erdahl on Nov. 15, 1911, in Minneapolis.

Mrs. Segner and her husband maintained a farm in Maple Lake.

She moved to Ashland in 1980 and was involved in community affairs. She was treasurer for the Ashland Senior Club for many years.

Survivors include a daughter, Doris M. Segner, Ashland; son, Howard J. Griswald, Maple Grove, Minn.; three grandsons; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Segner; by five brothers, Elmer, Jay, Ray, Charles and Gilbert; and by a sister, Jane Erdahl.
