Evelyn M. Fields
Evelyn M. Fields, 91, of Rogue River, died Thursday (April 29, 1999) at Three Rivers Community Hospital, Washington Campus, Grants Pass. No service is planned.
She was born Evelyn M. Sims on Oct. 5, 1907, in Springfield.
In 1944, in Idaho, she married Clayton Fields, who preceded her in death. Following her retirement, she moved to the Rogue Valley from Las Vegas.
Mrs. Fields became a telephone operator in Springfield in 1921. She was the chief operator for the Myrtle Creek Telephone Exchange.
Following a move to Placerville, Calif., she ran a restaurant for a short while.
In Las Vegas, she worked as a telephone operator for Howard Hughes, and later as a ranch manager for the Howard Hughes Bonnie Springs Ranch in Red Rock Canyon near Las Vegas, retiring in 1983.
She was a former member and past president of the Las Vegas Lady Elks Club, and was an active volunteer for the Rogue River Thrift Store.
Mrs. Fields enjoyed reading and playing bunco twice a week at the Rogue Senior Center.
Survivors include a son, Vern L. James, Portland; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

James W. Renouf
The graveside service for James Wayne Renouf will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. Elder George White of the Shady Point Seventh-day Adventist Church and Central Point Seventh-day Adventist Church will officiate.
Mr. Renouf, 78, of Medford, formerly of the Lebanon/Albany area, died Tuesday (April 27, 1999) at Hearthstone.
He was born March 14, 1921, in Los Angeles. He was raised in California and moved to Oregon in the late 1950s. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Lebanon in 1997.
Mr. Renouf worked in radiator repair shops as a young man. He later went into sales in the trucking industry.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Renouf was a member of the American Legion Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He enjoyed fishing and working with his hands.
Survivors include two daughters, Winnie Moses, Eagle Point, and Linda Mae Smith, Crabtree; a brother, Harry, Albany; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Steven P. Mitchell
The memorial service for Steven Patrick Mitchell will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Arbee Freeman of Family Christian Center will officiate.
Mr. Mitchell, 45, of Medford, died Monday (April 26, 1999) in Medford.
He was born April 16, 1954, in Eugene, a son of Howard and Naomi Mitchell. His family moved to the Rogue Valley from Bandon in 1956. He was a 1972 graduate of Medford Senior High School.
Mr. Mitchell worked for a period in Portland and then returned to Medford, where he worked for Boise Cascade for 20 years.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Medford, and performed as an acolyte in the church. He earned Eagle rank in Boy Scout Troop 7, sponsored by the church.
He enjoyed searching out ham radio connections from higher elevation points around the valley, and made some long range contacts including Europe. He also enjoyed computers, reading and playing chess.
Survivors include his parents, Howard W. and Naomi C. Mitchell, Medford; and two brothers, Pete and John, both Medford.

Charlene Scott
Charlene Scott, 68, of Medford, died Friday (April 30, 1999) at her home. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
She was born Charlene Harkins on Dec. 31, 1930, in Pax, W. Va.
On March 30, 1955, in Tijuana, Mexico, she married Norris Scott, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley 19 years ago from Reno, Nev.
Mrs. Scott was a homemaker, who enjoyed crocheting, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include five daughters, Theresa Clementson, Medford, Elaine Taylor, Patricia Killiam, and Marie Roy, all Roseburg; and Diane Bewer, Riverside, Calif.; three sons, Samuel and Phillip Scott, both Roseburg, and Larry Bewer, La Mirada, Calif.; a brother, Michael Harkins, Medford; 26 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Regina Scott; and two brothers and a sister.
Friends may pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.
Dorothy M. Wilson
The memorial service for Dorothy Mary Wilson will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Medford, with the Rev. Bunny Oliver officiating.
Inurnment will be in Buckingham Cemetery in Traer, Iowa.
Ms. Wilson, 93, of the Rogue Valley Manor, died Friday (April 30, 1999) at the Rogue Valley Manor Health Care Center.

She was born March 1, 1906, in Traer, Iowa. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1944 from Idaho.
Ms. Wilson was a school teacher for more than 40 years, teaching in Iowa and Idaho before finishing a 24-year tenure at Medford High School. She retired in 1968.
Mrs. Wilson was a member of the National Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society and the First United Methodist Church, and the E.Q. Chapter of PEO in Medford.
Survivors include a niece, Dorothy Clark, of New Hartford, Iowa. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Allen L. Mapes
Allen L. Mapes, 85, of Medford, died Wednesday (April 28, 1999) at his home. No service is planned.
He was born Jan. 20, 1914 in Hicksville, Ohio. On June 13, 1936, in Washington, he married Geraldine Frances Mapes, who preceded him in death.
He lived in the Rogue Valley for 13 years, moving here from Berkeley, Calif. Mr. Mapes was the former director of marketing for Kaiser Aerospace, retiring in 1977.
He enjoyed fishing, camping and the outdoors.
Survivors include two sons, Michael, Albany, Calif., and Craig, Walnut, Calif.; two daughters, Melinda Kipp of Sacramento and Cynthia Kloes of Joseph; a brother, Pete Mapes of Sun City, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his father, Albert Mapes, and his mother, Leahnette Baramore Mapes.

Zapopan Garza
A private family service has been planned for Zapopan Garza, of Medford.
Mrs. Garza, 84, died Wednesday (April 28, 1999) at her son 's home.
She was born April 26, 1915 in Melchor Muzquiz, Coahuila, Mexico. On Oct. 12, 1947, in San Juan de Sabinas, Coahuila, Mexico, she married Alfredo V. de la Garza Delgado, who preceded her in death.
She lived in the Rogue Valley the past two years, moving here from Melchor Muzquiz. Mrs. Garza was a homemaker and a member of the Roman Catholic Church. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, flowers and singing.
Survivors include two sons, Felipe Reyes of Central Point, and Federico de la Garza of Medford; a brother, Jose M. Garza of McAllen, Texas; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.

Floyd P. Watkins
A memorial service for Floyd P. Watkins was held April 21 in Oceanside.
Mr. Watkins, 93, of Tillamook and formerly of Phoenix, died April 17, 1999 in Tillamook.

He was born June 23, 1905 in Lind, Wash. On Oct. 29, 1927, he married Dorotha M., who died in 1992.
He attended Phoenix High School.
The couple lived in the Medford area until the 1960s, when they moved to Portland. They moved to Oceanside in 1988.
Mr. Watkins worked for Pacific Power and Light Co., retiring in 1970. He belonged to the Redmen and the Elks Lodge and was a Mason.
Survivors include two daughters, Evalyn W. O'Donel of Oceanside and Phyllis W. Stokes of Stone Mountain, Ga.; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
