Eugenia `Jean' Perkins

The memorial service for Eugenia "Jean" Perkins will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Church of God, 2000 Crater Lake Ave., Medford. Pastor John Wiuff of the First Church of God will officiate.

Mrs. Perkins, 74, of Medford, died Saturday (May 8, 1999) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Eugenia Humphrey on Jan. 31, 1925, in Kansas City, Mo.

On Aug. 31, 1946, in Las Vegas, she married H. Edward Perkins, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Las Vegas in 1984.

Mrs. Perkins worked for Smith and Chandler Western Stores in Las Vegas for 26 years, retiring in 1984.

She was the secretary of the Women of the Church of God, a Christian missionary organization, and was very active in her church.

She enjoyed handicrafts, crocheting dolls and blankets, and gardening.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a sister, Beverly Barker, Redding, Calif.; and a brother, Don Humphrey, Topeka, Kan. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ed Humphrey.

Gladys May Still

Gladys May Still, 92, of Central Point, died Saturday (May 8, 1999) at Three Fountains Nursing Center, Medford. No service is planned. Inurnment will be in Forest Lawn in Ventura, Calif.

She was born Gladys May White on Jan. 18, 1907, in Sparland, Ill. In 1928, she graduated from Olney Sanitarium, School for Nurses in Olney, Ill.

On Oct. 14, 1933, in Ventura, Calif., she married Frank Still, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Still was a surgery nurse at Foster Memorial Hospital in Ventura, Calif. She also worked as a surgery nurse and nurse supervisor in Ventura, Santa Paula, and Ojai hospitals. After her retirement in 1977, she moved to Grants Pass, and to Central Point in 1992.

She was a member of the Allen Creek Neighborhood Church in Grants Pass. Mrs. Still enjoyed helping others, plants, her church and traveling, especially air travel.

Survivors include three sons, Jerry, Central Point, Bob, Corvallis, and Jack, Hardy, Ark.; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin White; and a grandson, James Still.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.

Joan Lown

The memorial service for Joan Lown will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel, Medford.

Mrs. Lown, 62, of Eagle Point, died Sunday (May 9, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford.

She was born Joan Cook on Feb. 8, 1937, in California. She moved to the Rogue Valley from California when she was four.

On Sept. 22, 1956, in Medford, she married Lonzo "Bud" L. Lown, who survives.

Mrs. Lown worked in the candy and bakery department at Bear Creek Corp. for 10 years, retiring in 1999.

She enjoyed flowers, antiques, her grandchildren, and collecting thimbles and trinkets.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Randy L., Eagle Point; a daughter, Teresa L. Hobbs, Eagle Point; two brothers, William Cook, Medford, and Dean Cook, Salem; three sisters, Ruth Mentzer and Barbara Wisnate, both Medford, and Betty Cavanaugh, Westminster, Calif.; and four grandsons. She was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Sharp; and a brother, Bud Cook.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Hillcrest Chapel.

Carrie Y. Talent

Carrie Yoakley Talent, 89, of Medford, died Friday (May 7, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 3101 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97201.

She was born Carrie A. Rex on March 10, 1910, in Oshkosh, Wis.

Mrs. Talent was an avid painter and gardener, and was active in valley affairs for many years.

Survivors include her husband, M. Dewey Talent, Medford; a son, John Yoakley, El Cerrito, Calif.; and two brothers, Doug and Jerry Rex, both Eureka, Calif. She was preceded in death by her first husband, O. Earl Yoakley; a daughter, Julianne Raymond; and two brothers, Fred and George Rex.

H. Ralph `Deacon' Drais

H. Ralph "Deacon" Drais, 90, of Grants Pass, died Friday (April 30, 1999) at Fair View Transitional Health Center. No service is planned.

He was born May 25, 1908, near Monticello, Ill.

On July 10, 1933, in Hutchinson, Kan., he married Thelma L. Glover, who survives. He moved to Grants Pass from Indiana in 1946.

Mr. Drais was a lumber grader with Moore Timber Products in Grants Pass until the mill closed in 1963. He then worked at a mill in Roseburg. After retiring in 1973, he returned to Grants Pass.

During World War II, he served as an auxiliary military policeman at a munitions plant in western Indiana.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Grants Pass, serving as a master in 1962, and as an adviser for DeMolay during the 1950s.

Mr. Drais enjoyed camping, traveling, reading, and woodworking. He built a family home on Portola Drive.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Judi Drais, Medford; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a twin sister.

Jack Edward Detmer

The memorial service for Jack Edward Detmer will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. The Rev. John Wiuff of First Church of God, Medford, will officiate.

Mr. Detmer, 70, of Medford, died Monday (May 3, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 9320 S.W. Barbur Blvd., Suite 140, Portland, OR 97219.

He was born Oct. 16, 1928, in Macomb, Ill.

On Feb. 5, 1949, he married Marian Daegele. They later divorced.

On July 3, 1982, in Helena, Mont., he married Judith E. Taylor, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1988 from Everett, Wash.

Mr. Detmer was a highway patrolman for the State of Illinois, and a division claims director for American States Insurance Co. In Medford, he worked for six years as a parking patrolman for the Medford Airport.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Detmer was a past member of the Elks Club and the Pacific Coast Claims Executive's Association.

He enjoyed photography, cooking, golf and travel, and held a private pilot's license.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Pat Detmer, New Castle, Wash., Susie Detmer, Redmond, Wash., and Barbara Cram, Bainbridge Island, Wash.; a sister, Nancy Goy, Omaha, Neb.; two grandchildren; and his former wife, Marian Daegele.

Mabel B. Quackenbush

Mabel B. Quackenbush, 92, of Medford, died Sunday (May 2, 1999) at her home. Inurnment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford.

She was born Mabel Armstrong on Nov. 8, 1906, in Moscow, Idaho.

On Aug. 23, 1925, in Central Point, she married Vaughn L. Quackenbush, who died in 1975. She lived in the Rogue Valley since childhood.

Mrs. Quackenbush was a highly skilled pear packer. During pear season, she worked in local packing houses.

She was a charter member of the Medford Rose Society. In Phoenix, she was a member of the Thursday Club and the Garden Club. She was a member of the Phoenix Grange since 1931.

Mrs. Quackenbush enjoyed working with plants and flowers.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald, Medford, and Larry, The Dalles; a daughter, Gloria Dagnie, Bellingham, Wash.; a sister, Lena Higginbotham, Central Point; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Veronica M. Ubhaus

Veronica Marie Ubhaus, 83, of Medford, died Monday (May 3, 1999) in Medford. No service is planned. Inurnment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in San Rafael, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 691 Murphy Road, Suite 236, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Veronica Marie Ryan on July 13, 1915, in Butte, Mont. She moved to the Rogue Valley one year ago from San Rafael, Calif.

Mrs. Ubhaus volunteered with the American Cancer Society.

She was past president of the Marin Catholic High School Women's Club and was a member of St. Hillary's Catholic Church in Tiburon, Calif.

Survivors include two sons, John, Jacksonville, and Frank, San Jose, Calif.; a daughter, Gayle Newman, San Rafael, Calif.; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, in 1967; and by a sister, Geraldine Hickox.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.
