Rose Ann Wirth
June 19, 1913 - March 18, 2006
Rose Wirth, 92, of Sweet Home, died Saturday at her home. Rose was born in Trinidad, CO to John and Agnes (Nemecek) Kufner. She grew up there on her family's dairy farm. She rode a horse to attend a one room school house until she went to Trinidad High School, where she graduated in 1929.
Rose married Joseph A. Wirth on September 16, 1931. They moved to Modoc Point, OR in 1935 where her husband got his start in the lumber industry. Their oldest son, Joseph was born there at home, in 1937. Their son Vernon was born in Klamath Falls in 1939. Rose took a business course at the start of WWII and worked as Mr. Lamm's secretary at Lamm's Lumber Co. until the mill closed after the war ended.
They moved to Ashland in 1947 and spent many happy years there. Sose became active in the First Methodist Church and the PTA. She and her husband were Cub Scout leaders in their sons' troop and for several years after. Their daughter Wilma was born there in 1952.
Rose's father and uncle both lived on the Ashland property and raised large vegetable and flower gardens, berries and fruit and nut trees. Rose did a lot of canning and cooking. She and her fusband loved to host gatherings for their extended family and friends at their home, cooking for the "clan"and spending hours playing pinocle or scrabble and enjoying each others' company. Rose was an accomplished seamstress and used her treadle sewing machine to make clothes for her immediate family and many nieces and nephews. She even took a tailoring class to learn to make coats, and ladies suits. She also crocheted and emvroidered beautifully. Rose loved to read and became interested and informed in many areas. She also had regular correspondence with many relatives and friends.
She worked as a part time bookkeeper at Siskiyou Lumber Co. then in a bookkeeping office in Ashland after her daughter started school. They had to leave Ashland in 1965 to follow the lumber job market into Northern California. They lived in Truckee, Grass Valley, and Susanville and settled in Truckee. While living there, Rose was a bookkeeper for the Public Utility Co. and an office manager for the Sierra Sun Newspaper.
After Joe retired in 1976, they moved to Sweet Home to be near their son Vernon and his family. She enjoyed many hours of cooking for a hungry crowd while they were remodeling and adding on to their home; and of course, during the holidays. Rose and joe traveled across the country and back, visiting relatives and friends and enjoying their retirement. Their niece and her husband Doris and Wayne Wiley planned a 50th wedding anniversary party for them in Ashland in 1981 and that was always a highlight for Rose.
Rose's husband passed away November 10, 1985 and she then devoted herself to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
After breaking her hip in 2001, she spent many hours crocheting afghans and donated them to the military organizations at the Veterans Club; and to children through SHEM. Rose was truly loyal to her family always putting them first. Her faith always sustained her and she said not to grieve when she was gone because when Joe came to get her, she was going.
She is survived by her daughter, Wilma (Roger) McElhiney; daughter-in-law, Marlene Wirth; 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara Ann Long-Allen
I was born in Riverside, CA, on June 15, 1933, to Albert C. Long and Mildred (Millie) Long.
My parents moved from Medford, OR, during the "Great Depression." I grew up in Ontario, CA, where I met my husband, the love of my life.
In 1943 my mother informed me we were getting a new addition to the family. A sweet baby girl to love, "and she was a sweet baby to love and cherish."
"We leave behind those we love but can't forget."
Where does the time go? I have enjoyed all of it; especially my beloved cats who are at my side as I write this obituary.
In later years I enjoyed ALL card games, especially Bridge; and Mah Jong. Never a dull moment!
I never turned down a box of dark chocolate, peanut brittle, or licorice!
Bob and I hosted many foreign students from the Language Academy at SOU. We enjoyed this a lot and have kept in touch with many of them.
Survivors include my Beloved husband of 55 years "Bob Allen"; much Beloved daughter Melinda Roberson, and wonderful son-in-law Terry of Eagle Point, OR; son Albert Allen and daughter-in-law Patti; that dear sweet baby sister Judy Corallo of Ashland, OR; my best friend, "like a sister," Virginia Redfield of Montclair, CA; six grandchildren Heather Mackey being my first, Joshua, Jeremy, Billy, Bobby and Rachel; eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nephews & nieces.
See you all again. "As you walk this life's path, take time to smell the flowers, smile and think of me. Death is just another path we take."
I have had the best of everything- no regrets!
