James Louis Duncan
The memorial service for James Louis Duncan will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Medford Friends Church. Pastor Mark Burton of Medford Friends Church will officiate.
Mr. Duncan, 84, of Medford, died Tuesday (May, 11, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Medford Friends Church Building Fund, 525 DeBarr, Medford, OR 97501.
He was born Oct. 25, 1914, in Lambert, Miss. He was raised in Scottsdale, Ariz., and moved to Medford in 1952. He also lived in Prineville for 18 years.
On June 21, 1938, in Scottsdale, Ariz., he married Christina Slack, who survives.
Mr. Duncan was a woodworker in lumber mills, retiring in 1977.
He was a member of the Medford Friends Church and a past member of the Kiwanis Club in Arizona.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, Robert and Kenneth, both Prineville, Bill, Redmond, and Richard, Reno, Nev.; and a daughter, Lyn Lewis, Chandler, Ariz.

Ira V. Smith
The graveside service for Ira V. Smith will be at 11 a.m. Sunday in Logtown Cemetery, Highway 238, Jacksonville. Chaplain Paul Hagedorn of Providence Hospice will officiate.
Mr. Smith, 88, of Phoenix, died Thursday (May 13, 1999) at his home.

He was born June 26, 1910, in Clearwater, Idaho. He moved to the Coos Bay area in 1915, where he worked in the woods for his father. He graduated from Tigard High School, and attended Oregon State University, where he played football. He moved to Medford in 1938.
On Jan. 24, 1942, in Medford, he married Evelin M. Winningham, who survives.
Mr. Smith was the superintendent of Pacific Motor Trucking. In 1947, he started Crater Lake Log Company, which he operated in the Rogue Valley and Eureka, Calif., until his retirement in 1975.
He was a past member of the Elks Lodge, and was a charter member of the Rogue Valley Country Club.
He enjoyed golf, sports, especially football, winemaking and hunting.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Elden L., Jacksonville, Wendel W., Medford, and Larry V., of Florida; a daughter, Marilyn Randall, Whidbey Island, Wash.; two brothers, Elden Ray, Gold Hill, and Loyal E., Newberg; a sister, Marjorie Fulz, Salem; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Louise Smith, in 1943; and a sister, Violet Ellis, in 1991.

Elsie Mae Finch
The graveside service for Elsie Mae Finch will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Butte Falls Cemetery, Butte Falls.
Mrs. Finch, 88, of Ashland, died Wednesday (May 12, 1999) at Three Fountains Nursing Center.
Friends may pay their respects from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Conger-Morris Funeral Directors.
Betty Jean McBee
The memorial service for Betty Jean McBee will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Central Valley Chapel. Chaplain Earl Best of Medford will officiate.
Mrs. McBee, 67, of Shady Cove, died Tuesday (May 11, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born Betty Jean Simmons on Dec. 18, 1931, in Long Beach, Calif. She moved to Wimer in 1944 from Wilmington, Calif., and attended Rogue River High School. She lived in the Rogue Valley for the rest of her life.
On June 9, 1949, in Paradise, Calif., she married Jim McBee, who survives.
Mrs. McBee enjoyed gardening, painting, and collecting Beanie Babies.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Andy, Central Point, and Brett, Eagle Point; a sister, Dorothy Davis; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Howard Simmons; and a sister, Violet Winters.

Mona A. Granger
The memorial service for Mona Alsace Granger will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Rogue Valley Manor. The Rev. Don Hildebrand of Rogue Valley Manor will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Lawn in Long Beach, Calif.
Mrs. Granger, 82, of Medford, died Monday (May 10, 1999) at Rogue Valley Manor Health Center.

She was born Mona A. Pridson on July 17, 1916, in Montreal, Canada.
On Jan. 18, 1940, in New York City, she married Earl Francis Granger, who died in 1989. She moved to the Rogue Valley six years ago from Long Beach.
Mrs. Granger was a homemaker.
She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. In Long Beach, she was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, and was a board member of the YWCA.
Mrs. Granger enjoyed Bible study, crafts, and swimming.
Survivors include three sons, Donald, Medford, George and Doug, both Long Beach; a brother, Douglas Pridson, Stuart, Fla.; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Fry and Lilian Ryan; and a brother, George Pridson.

Carl A. Reed Jr.
The memorial service for Carl A. Reed Jr. will be at 2 p.m. today in the American Reformed Church in Luverne, Minn. The Rev. Dave Sikkema will officiate.
Mr. Reed, 61, of Jasper, Minn., formerly of Medford, died Saturday (May 8, 1999) at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
He was born March 18, 1938, in Liberty, Mo. He was raised in Southern California before moving to Oroville, Calif., where he attended high school.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1957, and served for many years aboard the USS Shangri-La, including participation in the blockade of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was also aboard ship off the coast of Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
On Jan. 15, 1962, in Hermantown, Minn., he married Solonge Marie Johnson, who survives.
Mr. Reed operated heavy machinery for Caltrans, the California highway department, in Grasslake, Calif. He retired in 1988, and moved to Medford. He moved to Jasper, Minn. in 1998.
Mr. Reed enjoyed studying Civil War history, the outdoors, auctions, and reading about antique automobiles.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Christine Lovett, Hardwick, Minn; twin sisters, Mary Mize, Stockton, Calif., and Margie Evans, French Gulch, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Elsie P. Muniz
Elsie P. Muniz, 78, of Medford, died Wednesday (May 12, 1999) at her home. A private service is planned. Inurnment will be in Eastwood Cemetery in Medford.

She was born Elsie Louise Porter on Nov. 24, 1920, in Boylston, N.Y.
On July 16, 1955, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., she married Joseph M. Muniz, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1959.
Mrs. Muniz was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
She enjoyed gardening orchids, photography, sewing, and birding.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Robert Joseph, Los Angeles; a brother, Maurice "Buddy" Porter, of Georgia; two sisters, Iva J. Mortenson, Johnson City, N.Y., and Lila J. Scardino, Vestal, N.Y. She was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Mae Ketchum; and a brother, Edwin H. Porter.

`Gwen' D. Ammons
Glenlynn "Gwen" Dorothy Ammons, 79, of Medford, died Wednesday (May 12, 1999) at Three Fountains Nursing Center. The graveside service was held Thursday in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

She was born Glenlynn Herdman on May 6, 1920, in Wagner, S.D. She graduated from Wagner High School in 1939.
On Sept. 3, 1944, in Medford, she married Jackson V. Ammons, who died in 1979. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1944 from Everett, Wash.
Mrs. Ammons was a clerical worker at Payne Field Air Force Base near Seattle during World War II.
She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Medford.
Mrs. Ammons enjoyed antiques, and was an avid reader, especially of Oregon and California history, and the lives of historical leaders.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Ann Clark, Medford, and Jacklyn Davis, Ashtabula, Ohio; a son, Bruce, Central Point; a brother, Keith Herdman, Spokane, Wash.; four sisters, Elva Mae Gardner, Medford, Carol Klepper, Klamath Falls; Lois Brock, Beaverton, and Ruth Wulf, Longview, Wash.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
