Eugene W. Anderson
Eugene W. Anderson, 73, of Trail, died Thursday (May 20, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. He will be buried at Trail Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mr. Anderson was born on July 23, 1925 in Jamestown, N.D. On Aug. 20, 1949, in Central Point, he married Roanna Cushman, who died in 1995.
He moved from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to the Rogue Valley when he was very young. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he worked in the logging industry, and was well-known as a cat skinner. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and his family.
Survivors include three daughters, Terri Hanscom, Ketchikan, Alaska, Linda McFall, Medford, and Debra Anderson, Trail; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Robin W. Freeman
The private memorial service for Robin William Freeman will be at noon Saturday at the home of Larry Freeman, 3003 Griffin Creek Road, Medford. Patty Carver will officiate.
Mr. Freeman, 49, of Carson City, Nev., formerly of Medford, died May 12, 1999, in Carson City Hospital.
He was born April 2, 1950, in Portland. He moved to Medford in 1960, and to Carson City in 1996.
Mr. Freeman was a salesman with Copeland Lumber in Carson City.
He enjoyed camping and fishing.
Survivors include his companion, Patty Carver, Carson City, Nev.; three sons, Jeff, Christopher and Dustin, all Medford; a daughter, Jessica, Medford; his father, Bill, of California; a brother, Larry, Medford; and four sisters, Penny Garrett, of California, Billie Russell, of Mississippi, and Dickie Hunter and Leslie Spry, of California.

Howard J. Boyd
Howard J. Boyd, 88, of Medford, died Tuesday (May 18, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center after suffering a stroke on May 12. No local service is planned. His ashes will be interred next to his wife's in the family plot in Globe, Ariz.
He was born Oct. 11, 1910, in Kennebec, Iowa.
Mr. Boyd was a manager for Woolworth stores in Arizona, Los Angeles, Calif., San Luis Obispo, Calif., and in Medford.
He transferred to the Medford store in 1948, and managed it until the late 1950s. He was then transferred to the San Francisco Bay area, where he managed stores until his retirement. During his retirement years he spent his summers in Medford, and winters in the Bay area. He sold his home and moved to Fountain Plaza on May 1.
Mr. Boyd served on the budget committee for the City of Medford. During his tenure as chairman of the Retail Merchants, he was instrumental in starting the Pear Blossom Festival.
He was a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and wore the ring of exalted ruler that he received in Globe, Ariz.
Mr. Boyd was a member of the Episcopal Church.
He was an avid duplicate bridge player and became a life master. He attended many tournaments throughout the Northwest.
Survivors include a daughter, Mildred Ann "Millie" Clarke, Medford; a son, H. James "Jim" Jr., Eugene; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Walpole (Hoar) Boyd, in 1981.

Gilbert J. Cardenas
Gilbert John Cardenas, 40, of Yreka, Calif., died Sunday (May 16, 1999) at his home. No service is planned.

He was born Dec. 11, 1958, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
On April 26, 1995, in Idaho Falls, he married Vivian D. Cole, who survives. They moved to Yreka three months ago from San Diego.
Mr. Cardenas was a butcher at Dan's Market in Holiday, Utah.
He was a member of Bassmasters and the Meatcutters' Union.
Mr. Cardena was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He enjoyed fishing, cooking, the Forty-Niners, and the Lakers.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Magdalena and Rachel Cardenas, both Yreka; a son, Gilbert Jr., Yreka; his father, Paul Cardenas, Idaho Falls; his mother, Rosa Miranda, Whittier, Calif.; three brothers, Mike, of Panama, Paul, Idaho Falls, and Marc, San Diego; and a sister, Carmen Lucero, Whittier. He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Eugene Cardenas on Dec. 28, 1988.

Milan `Bud' Babcock
The memorial service for Milan "Bud" Ellsworth Babcock will be at 11 a.m. July 14, 1999, in Marshfield, Wis.
Mr. Babcock, 90, of Mukwonago, Wis., formerly of Medford, died April 26, 1999 in Mukwonago.
He was born Dec. 8, 1908, in St. Paul, Minn. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Los Angeles in 1977.
In 1933, in California, he married Ruth Isabel Mann. They divorced in 1938. She died in 1979.
In December 1942, in Texas, he married Zella Mae Bledsoe, who preceded him in death.
In 1962, in California, he married Geneva Fandry, who died Feb. 6, 1999.
Mr. Babcock was a lithographer. He developed a process to cut pressure-sensitive tape while still on the roll, without cutting the backing paper. He also developed high-speed inks for printing pressure-sensitive tape.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army .
He enjoyed managing his investments, travel, driving motocross, and mall walking.
Survivors include two daughters, Marian Lahr, Eugene, and Patricia Barrows, Flagstaff, Ariz.; two stepsons, Donald Fandry, Arcadia, Calif., and Edward Fandry, Marshfield, Wis.; a stepdaughter, Yvonne Schwalbach, Mukwonago; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl; and six sisters, Cora Thompson, Marie Ritter, Hazel Monroe, Vern Williams, Donna Mae Gladys Johnston, and Neva Dee Babcock.

John H. Abernathy
John H. Abernathy, 66, of Ashland, died Tuesday (May 18, 1999) at Ashland Community Hospital. A private family memorial service is planned. A public memorial service will be held in Portland in early June.

He was born Jan. 23, 1933, in Bessemer, Ala. He received both a bachelor's and a master's degree from the University of Alabama. He received his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University.
Mr. Abernathy moved to Ashland in 1966, where he taught economics at Southern Oregon College, now Southern Oregon University. He became a mediator for the state of Oregon and later became an independent arbitrator.
He was instrumental in many community improvements, including restoration of Lithia Park following the flooding in the 1970s, writing grants to build the Britt Music Festival Pavilion and to develop public bus service, establishing Ashland's sign ordinance, working with governmental agencies to improve the health of migrant workers and needy families, and starting an economic development commission at the college.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Lynn Farber, Eagle Point; a son, Craig, Ashland, his mother, Lugene Abernathy, McCalla, Ala.; a sister, Elizabeth Fuller, McCalla, Ala.; a brother, Conrad, McCalla, Ala.; and three granddaughters.

Annmae M. Hobbs
Annmae M. Hobbs, 87, of Medford, died Monday (May 17, 1999) in Medford. No service is planned.

She was born Annmae M. Gilmore on Sept. 3, 1922, in Dayton, Wash.
In 1934, she married Alva Ford, who died in 1978.
In 1982, in Reno, Nev., she married Charles Hobbs, who died in 1988. She moved to the Rogue Valley 65 years ago from Pendleton.
Mrs. Hobbs was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Eagles Lodge, the Rebekahs, the I.O.O.F. Ladies Encampment Auxiliary, and the National Ladies Auxiliary of World War I.
Mrs. Hobbs was a volunteer for the U.S. Forest Service campgrounds.
She enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Ford, Central Point, and Al Ford, Talent; a daughter, Doreen Williams, Tulsa, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Barry G. Ford, in 1994.

Victoriano E. Sayo
The funeral for Victoriano E. Sayo will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Perl Funeral Home, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford. The Rev. Ray Elam of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate.
Mr. Sayo, 72, of Central Point, died Sunday (May 16, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 24, 1927, in Malolos Bulacan, Philippines.
In 1951, in Manila, Philippines, he married Beatriz Villones, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Malolos Bulacan in 1994.
Mr. Sayo was a law graduate of M.L.Q. University in Manila.
He was very active in his church, enjoyed shopping and donating to the needy, helping the elderly, and travel.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Evangeline Wherley and Liberty Hansen, both Medford, and Lujbelen Kongma, Bangkok, Thailand; three sons Edgardo, and Winifredo, both of the Philippines, and Mervin, of Thailand; a sister, Marciana Sayo; two brothers, Epifanio and Sofio; and 11 grandchildren.
