Mary Frances Grout
Mary Frances Grout, 94, of Medford, died Thursday (July 1, 1999) in Medford. No local service is planned. Interment will be in Springfield Memorial Gardens.

She was born Mary Frances Baker on Oct. 15, 1904, in Glendale, Ore., a daughter of Arthur Lindsey and Nora May Bevelhymer Baker. She attended school in Glendale.
On Feb. 27, 1924, in Eugene, she married Willard Armstrong Grout, who died in 1970. She moved to Medford nine years ago.
Mrs. Grout was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron of Chapter Springfield in 1963.
She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Medford.
Survivors include a son, Stanley, Medford; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Fred A. Baker; and a sister, Thelma Anderson.

Willard Austin Ellis
The memorial service for Willard Austin Ellis will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Christian Church of Ashland. Pastor Bob Friend will officiate. Private inurnment will be in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.
Mr. Ellis, 74, of Talent, died Monday (June 28, 1999) at his home.

He was born Aug. 13, 1924, in Saline, Mich., He moved to Ashland in the late 1940s.
In 1948, in Ashland, he married Catherine Silver, who survives. They later divorced.
Mr. Ellis was a truck driver and mill worker.
He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include five sons, Willard A. II, Harvey L., Robert J., Lawrence D., and David M., all of Ashland; two daughters, Ala R. Jones, Medford, and Ava C. Fish, Wetumpka, Ala.; a sister, Adelia Hassett, Sandy; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Dunn, and one great-grandchild.

Melody Louise Hvall
The graveside service for Melody Louise Hvall will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mrs. Hvall, 41, of Medford, died Tuesday (June 29, 1999) at her home.
She was born Melody Louise Ebeling on Aug. 14, 1957, in California.
On Oct. 23, 1977, in Las Vegas, she married Rocky Hvall, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1989 from California.
Mrs. Hvall was an assistant teacher at Washington Elementary School.
She enjoyed camping and rafting.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three daughters, Torie, Kami and Kala Hvall, all of Medford; a son, Cody, Medford; her grandmother, Bessie Meyers, Hemet, Calif.; and one granddaughter.

Margo Denton Blake
Margo Denton Blake, 77, of Phoenix, died June 8, 1999, at her daughter's home in Indio, Calif. No service is planned.

She was born Margo Denton on Dec. 21, 1921, in Oakland, Calif.
In 1952, in Castro Valley, Calif., she married Leslie Dan Blake, who died in 1996. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1978 from Sunnyvale, Calif.
Mrs. Blake was a homemaker.
She enjoyed playing bridge.
Survivors include a daughter, Sally Wilson, McCloud, Calif.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A son, Michael Alan Blake, died in 1972.

Mary Louise Eilert
Mary Louise Eilert, 85, of Medford, died Tuesday (June 29, 1999) at her home. No service is planned.

She was born on July 28, 1913, in Evanston, Ill. She moved to the Rogue Valley 14 years ago from Napa, Calif.
Dr. Eilert specialized in internal medicine in California.
She enjoyed music.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and John Eilert.

Alice Ruth Speake
Alice Ruth Speake, 100, of Grants Pass, died Monday (June 28, 1999) at her home. No service is planned.
She was born May 4, 1899, in Hodges, Mont. She moved to the Rogue Valley from California.
Mrs. Speake was a nurse at Sonoma State Hospital in Sonoma, Calif.
She enjoyed word puzzles, writing letters, latch hook rugmaking and embroidery.
Survivors include a sister, Dora Olsen, Bremerton, Wash.; one great-grandson; and two great-great-grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death.

Donald C. Espenson
Donald Charles Espenson, 74, of Phoenix, died Wednesday (June 30, 1999) in Medford. Private inurnment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
He was born July 27, 1924, in Mankato, Minn.
On May 20, 1950, in Mankato, he married Viola Dieter, who died in 1993. He moved to the Rogue Valley 10 years ago from Tacoma, Wash.
Mr. Espenson was a foreman for Nabisco Foods in San Leandro, Calif., prior to his retirement.
He was a member of the Eagles Lodge. He volunteered at Providence Medford Medical Center and Rogue Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Espenson served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
He enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbra E. Roberts, Broomfield, Colo.; two sisters, Jean Johnson, Hastings, Minn., and Alice Cornelius, Olympia, Wash.; a brother, Byron, Fargo, N.D.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Edward F. Brandfellner
Edward Frederick Brandfellner, 92, of Medford, died Sunday (June 27, 1999) in Medford. No service is planned. Interment will be in Skyline Memorial Gardens in Portland.
He was born Nov. 2, 1906, in Chicago.
On Sept. 16, 1976, in Phoenix, Ariz., he married Nellie Davies, who died in 1997. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Chicago in 1979.
Mr. Brandfellner was an attorney with a government agency in Chicago for many years.

Iris Irene Turpin
The graveside service for Iris Irene Turpin will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mountain View Cemetery in Ashland. The Rev. B. J. Holland of Ashland will officiate.
Mrs. Turpin, 93, of Ashland, died Tuesday (June 29, 1999) in Medford.
She was born Iris Irene Burns on Feb. 14, 1906, in Winston.
On July 14, 1937, in Florence, Ariz., she married James Gilson, who died in the early 1950s. Then she married Harold Shook, who preceded her in death. On July 27, 1985, in the Rogue Valley, she married Vernon Turpin, who died in the mid-1980s.
Mrs. Turpin lived in the Rogue Valley most of her life. She was a graduate of Grants Pass High School and attended Oregon State College. She was the first Cave Queen of Grants Pass in 1923, and Columbia Pictures filmed her giving a tour of the Oregon Caves.
Mrs. Turpin and and her first husband owned and operated a real estate company in Ashland.
She was a past president of the Order of the Eastern Star, Alpha Chapter No. 1 in Ashland. She was a member of the Amaranth and White Shrine and was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Klamath Falls.
