Robert Everett Ford
Robert Everett Ford, 84, of Grants Pass, formerly of Butte Falls, died Thursday (July 8, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private service will be held.
He was born March 17, 1915, in Oilton, Okla.
In 1950, in Grants Pass, he married Louise Hemstreet. They later divorced. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1972 from Yreka, Calif.
Mr. Ford was a heavy equipment operator, instrumental in the highway construction to Lost Creek reservoir, and in the construction of Interstate 5 from Sacramento to Klamath River, Calif.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Medford Eagles Lodge and the Operating Engineers Local.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
He enjoyed square dancing and fishing.
Survivors include four daughters, Kay Hoadley, Medford, Jamie Doud, Trail, Susan Ford, Grants Pass, and Joanne Herald, in Utah; a son, David Ford, Butte Falls; a brother, Ray, San Diego; a sister, Ruth Fisher, Burbank, Calif.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel.

George Henry Durand
George Henry Durand, 83, of Medford, died Tuesday (July 6, 1999) in Providence Medford Medical Center. A private service is planned. Inurnment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

He was born June 22, 1916, in Salem, Mass.
On Aug. 17, 1939, in San Diego, he married Marge Ward, who survives.
Mr. Durand enlisted in the Navy in 1936, and came up through the ranks as a radioman. One year after graduation in patrol aircraft in the Aleutians, he was assigned to fighter squadron VF-21 aboard the aircraft carrier USS Belleau Wood, flying F6F-5 Hellcats in the western Pacific. He earned an Air Medal and a Distinguished Flying Cross in the war zones. He left the Navy in 1946, with the rank of lieutenant.
Mr. Durand graduated from flight training in Pensacola, Fla., in 1942, and was a flight controller for the Federal Aviation Administration in Oakland for 12 years. He then worked in various administrative positions with the FAA in Oakland and Denver, retiring in 1971. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1972.
He was a member of the Sams Valley Grange, Jackson County Pomona Grange, and the Oregon State and National Grange.
He enjoyed photography and ham radio.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Judy Beagle, Eagle Point, and Pat Callery, Morgantown, W.Va.; two sisters, Annette Dunn, in New Mexico, and Irene Brimicombe, in New Hampshire; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

June Althea Maplesden
June Althea Erickson Maplesden, 76, of Yreka, died June 28, 1999, at her home. A memorial service was held July 3 at the Yreka United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dorothy Ketcham officiated.

She was born June Althea Erickson on June 18, 1923, near Greenview, Calif, at the Kidder Creek homestead of her parents, Minnie Cecilia Nelson and Charles Oldrick Erickson. She attended schools in Porterville, Talent and Grenada. In 1941, she graduated from Bieber High School in Lassen County.
In 1942, she attended the Bank of America Banking School in San Francisco, and worked at the University branch in Berkeley.
On March 1, 1946, she married Hooper Maplesden, who survives.
Mrs. Maplesden worked at Scott Valley Bank in Etna. She also worked for Dr. R.M. Stewart, optometrist, and for Gibraltar Savings & Loan. She retired in 1983.
Mrs. Maplesden helped establish the Yreka/Siskiyou Chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians & Gays, along with her husband and Patricia McCallister. She was a member of the national P-FLAG organization and the Rogue Valley P-FLAG Chapter in Ashland. She was an active member of the Siskiyou County AIDS Task Force and the Siskiyou County HIV/AIDS Foundation. She also was a member of the PTA, and served as a volunteer in 4H, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, the swim team, and Beverly Manor.
She also enjoyed travel and square dancing.
She was a member of the Yreka United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the United Methodist Women.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Vickie Sue Maplesden, Medford; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a son, John Reed Maplesden; a brother, Cecil Erickson; and a sister, Helen Cecilia Erickson Fiedler.

Elmer Allen Barnes
The graveside service for Elmer Allen Barnes will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Pastor Earl Phillips of Apostolic Faith Church will officiate.
Mr. Barnes, 80, of Medford, died Thursday (July 8, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
He was born March 23, 1919 in Klamath Falls.
On June 18, 1947, in Medford, he married Cora Rogers, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley 70 years ago from Klamath Falls.
Mr. Barnes was a residential house painting contractor.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
He was a member of the Apostolic Faith Church.
He enjoyed hunting.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Marilyn K. Barnes and Jackie Engle, both of Medford, and Karen Smith, Milwaukie; a son, John, Medford; two brothers, Don, Merrill, and Warren, Rio-Rico, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lu Damron and Avis Barnes Herphy; and six brothers, Bill, Lee, Charles, Clarence, Lloyd and Roy.

Henry `Hank' McCullough
The memorial service for Henry G. "Hank" McCullough will be at 1 p.m. today at Hillcrest Chapel. The Rev. Lyle McCaw of the White City Church of Christ will officiate.
Mr. McCullough, 67, of Central Point, died Thursday (July 8, 1999) at Linda Vista Care Center in Ashland.
He was born Feb. 1, 1932, in Santa Monica, Calif., a son of Henry A. and Evelyn Kane McCullough. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1991 from Atlantic City, N.J.
Mr. McCullough was a casino manager in the gaming industry.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1950 to 1953.
Mr. McCullough enjoyed fishing, hunting and reading.
Survivors include a daughter, Christie Kelly, Jacksonville, Fla.; and a brother, Fred, Central Point.

Mr.Edwin `Ed' Jones
The memorial service for Edwin "Ed" Jones will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, Medford. The Revs. Joyce DeGraaff and John Braund will officiate.
Mr. Jones, 81, a Medford resident since 1955, died Thursday, July 1, 1999, at his home.
Jones was born Jan. 9, 1918, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
During World War II he was a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Force, then operated a resort in Estes Park, Colo.
He joined the now-defunct Marshall Wells hardware and sporting goods chain in Portland and later was transferred to Medford.
Marshall Wells was the only store that sold all four major brands of ammunition -- Winchester, Western, Remington, and Peters. When the chain folded, Mr. Jones continued as an independent distributor of the ammunition.
He managed Town & Country Estates for 10 years, farmed in the Applegate, and was a salesman for Ramsey Realty in Ruch. He and his late wife, Florence, moved to Medford in 1990.

Vilas `Vi' Hastings
The graveside service for Vilas V. "Vi" Hastings will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Medford. The Rev. John Braund of Phoenix Presbyterian Church will officiate.
Mr. Hastings, 82, of Medford, died Wednesday (July 7, 1999) at Hearthstone.

He was born Sept. 27, 1916 in Quinn, S.D.
On Dec. 2, 1945, in Phoenix, Ariz., he married Cleone Diehl, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1949 from Ridgefield, Wash.
Mr. Hastings owned and operated a log truck fleet from 1946 to 1962. He drove trucks for Duane Burton Logging for 34 years until his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Hastings was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Mended Hearts, and was a past member of the Butte Falls Lions Club and the Jacksonville IOOF.
He attended the Presbyterian Church.
He enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Cheryl Reinke, Klamath Falls, and Elaine Koester, Kingwood, Texas; a sister, Ella Morris, Vivian, La.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
