N. Bernice Brenkman

The memorial service for N. Bernice Brenkman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Applegate Community Church. Pastor Kurt Krowel of Applegate Community Church will officiate. Interment will be in Logtown Cemetery.

Mrs. Brenkman, 81, of Applegate, died Sunday (July 18, 1999) in Applegate.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center, Asante Hospice, 691 Murphy Road, Suite 236, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born N. Bernice Wheeler on March 30, 1918, in Higbee, Mo., a daughter of Milton and Bertha Lay Wheeler.

On July 25, 1942, in Glendale, Calif., she married Roy E. Brenkman, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1968 from Riverside, Calif.

Mrs. Brenkman was a homemaker.

She was an active member of the Applegate Community Church.

Mrs. Brenkman enjoyed cooking, gardening and reading.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Jill Brenkman, Jacksonville; and a brother, Denver Wheeler, Liberty, Mo.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

John E. Schroeder

The memorial service for John E. Schroeder will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Jacksonville Cemetery.

Mr. Schroeder, 88, of Green Valley, Ariz., formerly of Medford, died Tuesday (July 20, 1999) at his home.

He was born Aug. 21, 1910, in Corn, Okla., a son of Peter and Anna Wiens Schroeder. When he was 23, he moved to Oakland, Calif., where he worked on the Oakland Bay Bridge. He lived in Medford from 1945 to 1991.

On Oct. 24, 1937, in Ashland, he married Regina Pittock, who survives.

Mr. Schroeder worked in desk sales in the building material trade in Oakland and Medford.

He was a Scoutmaster and a member of the Elks Lodge.

Mr. Schroeder enjoyed baseball, and was a pitcher in Corn, Okla. He also enjoyed fishing and golf.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Bryan, Richland, Wash., Gordon, Lewiston, Idaho, and Grant, Tucson, Ariz.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Arrangements: Desert Rose Cremation and Burial, Tucson, Ariz.

Elizabeth Wilkie-DuPuis

Elizabeth Mae Wilkie-DuPuis, 82, of Medford, died Monday (July 19, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A local memorial service has been held. A second memorial service will be held later in Havre, Mont.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501 or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 300, Memphis, TN 38148-0552.

She was born Elizabeth Bemis on May 21, 1917, in Havre, Mont. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1963 from Havre.

In 1938, she married Douglas Wilkie, who died in 1958.

In 1961, she married Louis DuPuis, who died in 1967.

Mrs. DuPuis was a member of the Episcopal Church in Havre, Mont., and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She enjoyed cooking, reading and the outdoors.

Survivors include four sons, Stuart Wilkie, Medford, Bruce Wilkie, Sweet Home, David Wilkie, Eugene, and Greg Wilkie, Havre, Mont.; a sister, Margie Mellblom, Grand Rapids, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A stepdaughter, DeeDee Dalton, died in 1973.

`Bill' Henry Pittock

The memorial service for William "Bill" Henry Pittock will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Applegate Community Church. Pastor Kurt Krowel will officiate. Inurnment will be in Jacksonville Cemetery.

Mr. Pittock, 81, of Applegate, died Saturday (July 17, 1999) at his daughter's home in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Applegate Community Church Roofing Fund, 18960 N. Applegate Road, Applegate, OR 97530.

He was born Nov. 27, 1917, in Grants Pass. He was Southern Oregon District high jump champion in 1936, and graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1936.

On June 4, 1944, in Los Angeles, he married Daisy Louise Thomas, who survives.

Mr. Pittock was a cattle rancher and a self-employed contract logger and partner in Pittock Bros. for 35 years.

He was a member and former chairman of the Applegate School Board and a member of the Applegate Lions Club.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one daughter, Linda Marti, Medford; two sisters, Gloria Pittock, Eugene, and Regina Schroeder, Green Valley, Ariz.; two sons, David and Larry, both Medford; a brother, Thomas Jr., Central Point; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral Inc., Medford.

Vivian Jean Kipp

Vivian Jean Kipp, 64, of Jacksonville, died Monday (July 19, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A private service is planned.

She was born Vivian Ceder on May 14, 1935, in Wabach, Neb., a daughter of Ernest and Leatha Ceder.

On Jan. 21, 1955, in Yuma, Ariz., she married Charles Kipp, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Missouri in 1995.

Mrs. Kipp was a winder with General Electric.

She enjoyed the outdoors.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three daughters, Tara Lynn, Grants Pass, Sandy Adams, Palmdale, Calif., and Rhonda Hornback, Nixa, Mo.; a son, Randy Kipp, Jacksonville; a brother, Virgil Ceder, Medford; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Angela Kay Gallo

Angela Kay Gallo, 74, of Grants Pass, died Saturday (July 17, 1999) at Three Rivers Community Hospital and Health Center, Dimmick Campus, Grants Pass. The memorial service has been held.

She was born Angela Buffey on March 4, 1925, in Clarksburg, W.Va.

On May 11, 1990, in Ontario, Calif., she married Richard "Dick" N. Gallo, who survives. She moved to Grants Pass in 1990 from Riverside, Calif.

Mrs. Gallo was a Jehovah's Witness.

She enjoyed camping.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Richard Darner, Grants Pass, and Pat Darner, Yreka, Calif.; a daughter, Vickie Postil, Riverside, Calif.; two brothers, Guy Buffey and Johnny Buffey, both Clarksburg; 10 sisters, Bee Nutter, Mary Hall, Becky Sprout, Patricia Toothman, Gladys Cianncio, Joanne Leason, Muggy Watson, Unnie Moran, Nancy Hartman and Uggie Williams, all Clarksburg; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Grants Pass Funeral Alternatives.

Mary E. Keener

The funeral for Mary Eloise Keener will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park. The Rev. Pat Winningham of Rogue River Assembly of God will officiate.

Mrs. Keener, 66, of Eugene, formerly of Medford, died Friday (July 16, 1999) in Eugene.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Mary Clark on March 8, 1933, in Medford, a daughter of Charles Edward and Isabelle Sarah Clark. She attended Medford schools and graduated from Medford High School in 1951.

In Medford, Ms. Keener worked for Firestone and at Reters Fruit Packing. She moved to Eugene six years ago.

She was a member of the Assembly of God.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Nored, Bakersfield, Calif.; a son, Conrad Keener, Los Angeles; her mother, Isabelle Stelle, Medford; two sisters, Delores Holloway, Eugene, and Jeanne Herramann, Portland; three brothers, Albert Clark and John Stelle, both Medford, and Frank Clark, San Diego; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services, Medford.

Ivan Thomas Gilman

The funeral for Ivan Thomas Gilman will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel. The Rev. Craig Rench of the First Church of the Nazarene will officiate.

Mr. Gilman, 79, of Grants, N.M., formerly of Medford, died Saturday (July 17, 1999) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

He was born April 29, 1920, in Mellette, S.D., a son of James and Ellen Gilman. He moved to Oregon in 1938, and lived in Medford until 1980.

On Feb. 9, 1944, in Tacoma, Wash., he married Joyce N. Mensing, who died in 1973.

On May 31, 1975, in Grants, he married May P. Heppler, who survives. He moved to Tucson, Ariz., in 1980, and to Grants in 1992.

Mr. Gilman worked for Pacific Fruit and Produce in Medford for 26 years.

He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the Saginaw Bay in the Philippines and Okinawa.

Mr. Gilman enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and gardening.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, Nick C., Medford, Steve M., White City, Thomas L., Talent, and Martin W., Central Point; a daughter, Vanna K. Rigot, Prospect; one stepson and two stepdaughters in Grants; a brother, Willis Gilman, Medford; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and four step-great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.
