Leona D. Cartwright
Leona D. Cartwright, 87, of Gold Hill, died Monday (July 26, 1999) at Medford Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. No service is planned.
She was born Leona Hemenway on Sept. 22, 1911, in Cadott, Wisc., a daughter of Bernard and Nellie (Green) Hemenway.
On July 25, 1936, in Rockford, Ill., she married Edmund Lysle Cartwright, who died in 1979.
Mrs. Cartwright was a telephone operator.
She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of Oregon and served on the Rogue Valley Medical Center Auxiliary for two years.
Mrs. Cartwright enjoyed traveling and flower gardening.
Survivors include two sons, Richard D., and Peter L., both Rocky Point; a daughter, Susan Cox-Smith, Gold Hill; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A daughter, Jean Marie Spangler, died in 1998. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, two brothers and a grandson.

`Geri' Jarman
The graveside service for Gurine Louise "Geri" Jarman will be at 3 p.m. today in Central Point Masonic Cemetery. Pastor Jeff Anderson of the Central Point Assembly of God will officiate.
Mrs. Jarman, 71, of Central Point, died Sunday (July 25, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
She was born Gurine Hedges on Feb. 12, 1928, in Mapleton, Iowa.
On Feb. 12, 1973, in Carson City, Nev., she married Virgil Lee "Slim" Jarman, who survives.
Mrs. Jarman was a homemaker.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Doris "Misty" Russell, Medford; two brothers, Marvin Hedges, Pleasant Hill, and Norm Hedges, Minneapolis; two sisters, Sharon Hedges, Minneapolis, and Donna Houts, Sioux City, Iowa; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Loretta Irene Schaeffer
Loretta Irene Schaeffer, 83, of Medford, died Monday (July 26, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center. No service is planned.
She was born Loretta Irene Beckman on Aug. 2, 1915, in Elgin, Ill.
On May 3, 1934, in Elgin, she married Alfred Schaeffer, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1973 from Scottsdale, Ariz.
Mrs. Schaeffer was a member of the Talent Friends Church and the Tilth Society.
She was a volunteer for Loaves and Fishes and the Britt Festival.
Mrs. Schaeffer enjoyed baking and canning.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Allen, Mount Shasta, Calif.; two daughters, Janet Begalla, Westlake Village, Calif., and Anne Hadon, New York City; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Jeanne L. Keehnen
Jeanne Lilian Keehnen, 66, of White City, died Saturday (July 24, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A private service will be held. Interment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park.
She was born Jeanne Bonura on Feb. 8, 1933, in North Africa. She was raised in Hollywood, Calif., and raised her three children in Los Angeles.
She moved to Oregon following her retirement. She moved to the Rogue Valley three years ago from Brookings.
Survivors include three sons, Rex, Ruch, Karl, White City, and Andrew, Chicago; a sister, Lana Bonura, and a brother, Adrien Bonura, both in Italy; and two grandchildren.

Glenn C. Rodenmayer
The graveside service for Glenn Cameron Rodenmayer will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The Rev. Beverly McPherron of Christ Unity Church will officiate.
Mr. Rodenmayer, 80, of Medford, died Sunday (July 25, 1999) in Medford.

He was born Jan. 20, 1919, in Fairfield, Iowa. He played football for Fairfield High School.
On Aug. 24, 1963, in Reno, Nev., he married Betty Fichtner, who survives.
Mr. Rodenmayer was a heavy equipment operator for Medco, retiring in 1984.
He was a volunteer at the Veteran's Domiciliary for 14 years, assisting the American Legion Auxiliary in the poppy program, and with bingo.
He was a 50-year member of Ashland Elks 944, and volunteered in many Elks programs.
During World War II, he served in the Medical Corps, lst Battalion, 381st Infantry, in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He received several medals.
Mr. Rodenmayer enjoyed golf.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Phillip, Bixby, Okla.; three stepdaughters, Shirley Fichtner Dempsey, Medford, Carolyn Fichtner Chamberlain, Eagle Point, and Muriel Ringel, Vancouver, Wash.; two stepsons, John Fichtner, Lake Oswego, and Gary Clyde Fichtner, Cave Junction,; a brother, Harold, Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Marjorie Messer, Fairfield; six grandchildren; and eight step-grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry, in 1995; a sister, Margaret Miksch; and a brother, Alfred.
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at 550 Business Park Drive, Medford.

Richard I. Simmons
The graveside service for Richard Ingle Simmons will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. Truman Rennels will officiate.
Mr. Simmons, 83, of Central Point, died Sunday (July 25, 1999) at his home.

He was born July 26, 1915, in Wellington, Texas, a son of Peter and Maude Simmons.
On Aug. 13, 1949, in Reno, Nev., he married Onita Warwick, who survives.
Mr. Simmons graduated from National Meat Cutting School in Toledo, Ohio. He owned Piggly Wiggly Meat Market in Grants Pass. He also was a truck driver for the Jackson County Road Department until his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Simmons was a bass player with the Old Time Fiddlers. In the 1940s, he and his brothers played for local dances.
He enjoyed sitting around a campfire with friends, playing his guitar.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Cynthia Lees, Central Point, a brother, George, Medford; and two grandchildren.

Otto E. Heckert
Otto E. Heckert, 95, of Central Point, died Monday (July 26, 1999) in Central Point. A private graveside service will be held at Jacksonville Cemetery.

He was born April 18, 1904, in Medford, a son of Frederick and Minne (Wienke) Hackert. He attended school in Jacksonville and grew up on the property where his home now stands.
On Jan. 3, 1928, in Medford, he married Elizabeth Meier, who died in 1998.
Mr. Heckert worked for the National Park Service at Crater Lake for two seasons, and at the Mail Tribune, studying to be a Linotype operator in the pressroom.
From 1938 to 1951, he operated a Shell service station in Jacksonville. He also worked for the Agriculture Experiment Station for 15 years, until he retired in 1969. He farmed until he was almost 90 years old.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Jacksonville.
Mr. Heckert enjoyed hunting and fishing on the Rogue River.
Survivors include a son, Donald, Central Point; a daughter, Anita Niedermeyer, Jacksonville; a brother, Albert Hackert, Jacksonville; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a great-grandchild.
