Velma Louise Ricks
Velma Louise Ricks, 82, of Central Point, died Thursday (July 29, 1999) at Medford Rehabilitation Center. No service is planned.
She was born Velma Long on Oct. 12, 1916, in Newland, Ind.
On Jan. 15, 1934, in Winamac, Ind., she married Harold Ricks, who died in 1991. She moved to Shady Cove in 1961 from Santa Rosa, Calif. In 1976, she moved to Central Point.
Mrs. Ricks was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Harold, Jacksonville, and Michael, Medford; a daughter, Dalyn Butterfield, Oregon City; two brothers, Floyd Long, Geary, Ind., and Orval Long, N.C.; a sister, Thelma Yockey, Winamac, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mary Etta Aronold
Mary Etta Aronold, 91, of Medford, died Tuesday (July 27, 1999) at Medford Rehabilitation Center of age-related causes. No service is planned.
She was born Mary Etta Moore on Sept. 1, 1907, in Yale, Iowa, a daughter of John and Sarah Moore.
In 1950, she married Jack Aronold, a minister of the Foursquare Gospel Church. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Aronold was a licensed, ordained minister of the Foursquare Gospel Church, and served as a pastor in Colorado and California.
Survivors include four nephews, Lowell Tobin, Medford, John Hunter, Kansas City, Mo., Rodney Yale, Whitney, Texas, and Donald Yale, Sun City, S.C.; and one niece, Mabel Martz, Drain. She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

George F. `Timer' Ward
The memorial service for George Frank "Timer" Ward will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Masonic Lodge on Clover Lane in Ashland. Private interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery Mausoleum, Ashland.
Mr. Ward, 81, of Ashland, died Monday (July 26, 1999) at Ashland Community Hospital.

He was born April 3, 1918, in Slaton, Texas, and moved to Ashland as an infant with his parents, Peyton and George F. Ward.
On Oct. 1, 1939, in Ashland, he married Eleanor A. Oium, who survives.
Mr. Ward operated George Ward Trucking in Ashland. He was later co-founder and vice president of the Ashland dental manufacturing firm, Cascade m/d Products. Following that, he was the proprietor of Rondo Bowling Lanes in Ashland.
From 1961 to 1968 he served on the Ashland City Council, and was the chairman of the Airport Committee during the development and construction of the Ashland Municipal Airport.
Mr. Ward was a Past Master of Ashland Lodge 23 A.F. & A.M., a member of the York Rites; Siskiyou Chapter 21 Royal Arch Masons, and Malta Commandry 4 Knights Templar. He was a 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Mason, a noble of Hillah Temple Shrine, and a two-time Worthy Patron of Alpha Chapter 1 of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of Elks Lodge 476 in Yuma, Ariz.
During World War II, he served with a topographic battalion in the U.S. Army in the European theater. After V.E. Day, he served undercover in domestic service with the Counter Intelligence Corps until the end of the war.
Mr. Ward enjoyed travel and aviation, and owned both business and personal aircraft.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Glen M., Ashland; and two grandchildren. A sister, Pauline Robison, preceded him in death.

Aretta M. Triolo
A celebration of the life of Aretta Marguerite Rone Triolo will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, in the Congregational Church of Medford, 1801 E. Jackson St.
Mrs. Triolo, 47, of Bandon, formerly of Medford, died Monday (July 26, 1999) following a long illness.

She was born Aretta Rone on Nov. 19, 1951, in Mena, Ark., a daughter of Gordon Albert Rone and Opal Marguerite Hunt. An avid student, gifted in foreign languages, she graduated from Medford Senior High School in 1969. She received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Southern Oregon State College in 1990.
On Oct. 19, 1997, in Reno, Nev., she married James Triolo, who survives.
Mrs. Triolo was a licensed tax preparer at the family business, Rone's Tax Service in Medford. She moved to Bandon last year, fulfilling a lifelong dream to be near the ocean.
She enjoyed her Persian cat, Oliver, traveling, gardening, gourmet cooking and quilting.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two brothers, Fred, Medford, and Clifford, Tigard.

Violet Emma Salter
Violet Emma Salter, 97, of Ashland, died Tuesday (July 27, 1999) at her home. No service is planned.
She was born Violet McCullough on May 16, 1902, in Carman, Manitoba, Canada.
On July 24, 1926, in Carman, she married Ernest E. Salter, who died in 1956. She moved to the Rogue Valley 4 1/2 years ago from Huntington Park, Calif.
Mrs. Salter taught high school for five years. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed caring for her family.
Survivors include a son, Ken, Ashland; a daughter, Phyllis Van Pelt, Sacramento, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers; three sisters; and a daughter, Esther Knox, who died in 1983.

Lore E. Gist
Lore E. Gist, 74, of Jacksonville, died Sunday (July 25, 1999) at her home. A private service will be held. Inurnment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
She was born Lore Piper on March 24, 1925, in Niedersessmach, Germany. She moved to the Rogue Valley nine years ago from Watsonville, Calif.
Mrs. Gist was a tax preparer for H & R Block in California.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Lori Morrow, San Jose, Calif.; and a sister, Lisa Baker, Santa Clara, Calif. Her husband, James Gist, died Feb. 12, 1999.

Margaret I. Morse
The funeral for Margaret Irene Morse will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Carmelo Missud of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford.
A prayer vigil service will be at 6 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Chapel.
Mrs. Morse, 86, of Phoenix, died Tuesday (July 27, 1999) in Medford.
She was born Margaret Exelby on Dec. 25, 1912, in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, a daughter of Morley and Myrtle Exelby.
In 1944, in Reno, Nev., she married Laverne Morse, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1962 from La Habra, Calif.
Mrs. Morse was a homemaker. She had been a past manager for Rogue River Pharmacy.
She was a two-time past president of the Lady Lions, a past president of the Emblem Club, and a member of the Lady Elks and the Grants Pass Garden Club.
Mrs. Morse was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford.
She enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and golf.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Don, Bellevue, Wash., and Richard, Philadelphia; a daughter, Carolyn Flammini, Diamond Bar, Calif.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Hazel Emily Oman
The funeral for Hazel Emily Oman will be at 11 a.m. today in Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Medford. Pastor Dick Boden of Applegate Christian Fellowship will officiate.
Mrs. Oman, 70, of Medford, died Tuesday (July 27, 1999) at her home.
She was born Hazel Vogel on April 6, 1929, in Coquille, and attended high school in Dinuba, Calif.
On Feb. 14, 1949, in Medford, she married Kenneth L. Oman, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1948 from Dinuba, Calif.
Mrs. Oman was a homemaker.
She was a member of Applegate Christian Fellowship.
Mrs. Oman enjoyed caring for her dogs.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Robert and Ronald, both Central Point; three sisters, Jean Foth, Central Point, Eleanor Reed, Dinuba, Calif., and Lorraine Lawson, Clovis, Calif.; and four grandchildren. A daughter, Susan Oman, died in 1998.
