Margaret Ann Leever

The memorial service for Margaret Ann Leever will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Medford. The Revs. David Close and Charles Christopher will officiate.

Mrs. Leever, 78, of Medford, died Thursday (Aug. 5, 1999) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Chapter AA P.E.O. Scholarship Fund, 789 Mountain View Drive, Medford, OR 97504, or to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 212 N. Oakdale Ave., Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Margaret Ann Brown on April 28, 1921, in Berkeley, Calif. She moved to the Rogue Valley with her family in 1935.

Mrs. Leever attended the University of Oregon and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1943 with a degree in French and psychology.

On June 23, 1946, in Medford, she married William H. Leever, who preceded her in death.

She was a third-generation member of Chapter AA P.E.O., a member of the Rogue Valley Medical Center Auxiliary and a life member of the Junior League of Jackson County.

Mrs. Leever was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Medford.

She enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their cabins on the Rogue River, traveling, stitchery and reading.

Survivors include three sons, William L., Michael E., and Jeffrey C., all of Medford; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. John Brown.

Josephine M. McLeish

The graveside service for Josephine Mabel McLeish will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Laurel Cemetery in Cave Junction. Pastor Charles Harlow will officiate.

Mrs. McLeish, 86, of Medford, died Wednesday (Aug. 4, 1999) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 380 S.E. Spokane St., Suite 110, Portland, OR 97202 or to the American Heart Association, 10 Crater Lake Ave., Suite 10, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Josephine Pfefferle on July 29, 1913, in Kerby, the daughter of Henry and Myrtle Pfefferle. She graduated from Brookings High School as valedictorian.

On May 13, 1934, in Grants Pass, she married James P. Durgin, who died in 1960.

On Nov. 2, 1964, in Reno, Nev., she married Earl E. McLeish, who died in 1984. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1954 from Klamath Falls.

Mrs. McLeish worked at Ewana Box Factory in Klamath Falls during World War II. She later worked as a waitress in the cafeteria at J.J. Newberry in Medford for many years until her retirement.

Mrs. McLeish enjoyed rock hunting, camping, traveling and reading.

Survivors include two daughters, Beth Gress, Gladstone, and Ruth Masterson, Hines; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Phayo, Paul and Allen Pfefferle.

Elmer E. Tompkins

The memorial service for Elmer E. Tompkins will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. Inurnment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Tompkins, 70, of Medford, died July 30, 1999, at his home.

He was born Sept. 10, 1928, in Van Nuys, Calif. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1937. He graduated from Phoenix High School in 1946, the first year it had a graduating class.

On Aug. 31, 1985, in Medford, he married Ramona I. Fox, who died in July 1999.

Mr. Tompkins worked as a fireman for the city of Medford. He also owned a janitorial service before his retirement.

Survivors include two sons, Eric, Gold Hill, and Joseph, Medford; two daughters, Shelly Hale, Medford, and Della Harris, Talent; three stepdaughters, Toni Irving, Medford, Sharon Irving, Portland, and Shirley Garza, Richland, Wash.; a brother, Orman, Medford; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Armond Papineau

The memorial service for Armond Eugene "Frenchy" Papineau will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Phoenix. Revs. John Braund and Bill Hare will officiate.

Mr. Papineau, 82, of Medford, died Friday (Aug. 6, 1999) at Hearthstone.

He was born Jan. 21, 1917, in West Haven, Conn. On June 16, 1939, in Bridgeport, Conn., he married Ruth D. Cureau, who survives.

He came to the Rogue Valley seven years ago from Garden Grove, Calif.

Mr. Papineau was a maintenance worker for 10 years for the Newport Mesa Unified School District in Newport Beach, Calif. He was also a fencing coach and enjoyed the sport into his 70s.

He was a 45-year member of the Masons. He enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Eugene A., Ashland; two daughters, Andrea J. Kassell and Diane D. Stabler, both Medford; a sister, Dorothea Ostrosky, Cottonwood, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Wardzik.

Arrangements: will be announced by Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Phyllis G. Johansen

The memorial service for Phyllis Georgia Johansen will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. The Rev. Paul B. Robinson of Medford Congregational United Church of Christ will officiate.

Mrs. Johansen, 74, died Thursday (Aug. 5, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

She was born Phyllis Georgia Frank on April 20, 1925, in Fenton, Iowa. On Nov. 23, 1946, she married Robert Johansen, who died April 6, 1996.

She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1979 from Minneapolis, Minn.

Mrs. Johansen was a medical transcriber for Providence Medford Medical Center for 16 years, retiring in 1995. She was also a volunteer at the Medford airport, and in Longfellow Park in Minneapolis.

She was a member of the Congregational Church.

Survivors include three sons, Roger Johansen and Glenn Johansen, both Medford, and Frank Johansen, Eagle Point; a daughter, Karen Johansen, Carson City, Nev.; and three sisters, Barbara Schultz, Long Beach, Calif., Shirley Shaw, Fenton, and Virginia Klinger, Bentonville, Ark.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford.

Rue C. Bohannan

Rue C. Bohannan, 84, of Medford, died Friday (Aug. 6, 1999) at his home. A private service is planned.

Inurnment will be at Loma Vista Memorial Park, Fullerton, Calif.

Mr. Bohannan was born Oct. 24, 1914, in Arkansas. On Nov. 18, 1967, he married Lois Ruell, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1996 from Klamath Falls.

He was a self-employed upholsterer and saddle-maker for 40 years, retiring in 1971.

He enjoyed making tack and training horses.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Donna Mattson, Hemet, Calif., and Sandy Royer, Carthage, Mo.; a stepson, Steve Cox, Creswell; two stepdaughters, Glenda Burke, Wilsonville, and Claudia Krueger, Modesto, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

John M. Rocatelli

The memorial service for John M. "Rocky" Rocatelli will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Father Joseph Shirey will officiate. Inurnment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Rocatelli, 76, of Medford, died Friday (Aug. 6, 1999) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Foundation Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Jan. 8, 1923, in Providence, R.I. On April 1, 1972, in Providence, he married Juanita G. Grana, who survives.

He came to the Rogue Valley in 1973 from Rhode Island.

Mr. Rocatelli was most recently a sales representative for the Southern Oregon Timberjacks. He was also a bartender at many local restaurants, including the Jacksonville Inn.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He served in the Normandy invasion and helped liberate the Dachau concentration camp. He was taken prisoner of war in Germany and escaped.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He enjoyed playing baseball and golf. He had signed to play with the Boston Red Sox farm team.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Donna Marie Adamonis, Providence, Gloria Rocatelli, Smithfield, R.I., and Karen Ann DiMeglio, Richmond, Va.; a sister, Etta Soccio, Providence R.I.; and five grandchildren.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.
