Myrtle Gangnes

The funeral for Myrtle Gangnes will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Grace Lutheran Church in Ashland. Pastor Tony Schultz of Grace Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

Mrs. Gangnes, 86, of Talent, died Thursday (Aug. 19, 1999) at Medford Rehabilitation Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 660 Frances Lane, Ashland, OR 97520.

She was born Nov. 25, 1912, in North Dakota, a daughter of Alma and Elmer Holmen.

On June 15, 1940, in Horace, N.D., she married Ludvig M. Gangnes, who died in 1991.

Mrs. Gangnes was a school teacher for many years in Fargo, N.D. She later moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where she continued to teach until her retirement in 1973. She moved to Talent in 1973.

She enjoyed being involved in church and community clubs.

Survivors include two sons, Clay, Talent, and Larry, Argusville, N.D.; a daughter, Linda Cooley, Ashland; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home in Ashland.

Vernon C. Robertson

The memorial service for Vernon Collins Robertson will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Memory Gardens Mortuary in Medford. Pastor Fred Sapp of Blessed Hope Advent Christian Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mr. Robertson, 84, of Medford, died Thursday (Aug. 19, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Oregon, 9320 S.W. Barbur Blvd., Suite 140, Portland, OR 97219.

He was born July 12, 1915, in Halliday, N.D.

In 1972, in Reno, Nev., he married Mary Hurt, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1946 from Klamath Falls.

Mr. Robertson was a shipping clerk for many years in sawmills in the Rogue Valley area.

He was a member of Blessed Hope Christian Church in Medford.

Mr. Robertson enjoyed hunting and woodworking.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Chuck, Medford; a daughter, JoAnn Weber, Medford; a brother, Donald, Medford; a sister, Wilma Mathews, Woodburn; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, three sisters and two brothers.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Elaine Bartol

The funeral for Elaine Bartol will be at 2 p.m. today in Calvary Temple in Central Point. Pastor Glenn Tucker of Calvary Temple will officiate. Private interment will be in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

Mrs. Bartol, 61, of Medford, died Wednesday (Aug. 18, 1999) at home.

She was born Oct. 30, 1937, in Sun Valley, Calif., a daughter of Gertrude and Henry DeYoung. She was raised in Ashland and Talent, and graduated from Talent High School.

On Dec. 22, 1956, in Ashland, she married Harold Bartol, who survives.

Mrs. Bartol moved to Medford in 1969, where she was an operations officer for First Interstate Bank. In 1988, she retired from the bank and began operating a flower shop from her home.

She was a member of the Ashland Assembly of God Church, and had attended the Calvary Temple in Central Point for the past five years.

Mrs. Bartol enjoyed gardening, flower arranging and her pets.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Deborah Maloney, Medford, and Cynthia McClean, Charleston; a son, Steven, Salem; two brothers, Howard DeYoung, Talent, and John DeYoung, Applegate; a sister, Laverne Davidson, Grass Valley, Calif.; three granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Xenia Iona Dover

The cryptside service for Xenia Iona Dover will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Dover, 90, of Medford, died Thursday (Aug. 19, 1999) at home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 691 Murphy Road, Suite 235, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Feb. 3, 1909, in Red Bluff, Calif., a daughter of John W. and Luella (Klinidenest) Edwards.

On July 1, 1926, in Los Angeles, she married Ernest Dover, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1977 from Los Angeles.

Mrs. Dover was a homemaker. She enjoyed her family.

Survivors include a son, Jack, Phoenix; five daughters, Edna White and Carol L. Bonfiglio, both Medford, Betty Canete, Rogue River, Ruth Wood, Nuevo, Calif., and Althea Harvill, Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Eletha Bateman, San Jose, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Grimsley.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Robert Alan Foster

Robert Alan Foster, 74, of Medford, died Thursday (Aug. 19, 1999) at Three Fountains Nursing Home in Medford. No service is planned. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

He was born April 21, 1925, in Portland, a son of Forrest Lloyd and Mary Gertrude (Opp) Foster. He studied biology for three years at college in Portland.

On Sept. 12, 1947, in Portland, he married Helen Gerber, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Portland in 1952.

Mr. Foster was a fire control officer with the U.S. Forest Service No. 27.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Audobon Society.

Mr. Foster enjoyed hunting, fishing, and attending auctions, flea markets and garage sales.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Rickert, Gold Beach; a sister, Rosie Foster, Portland; and six grandchildren.

Grace M. Sledge

The memorial Mass for Grace M. Sledge will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, Ashland.

Mrs. Sledge, 95, of Talent, died Thursday (Aug. 19, 1999) at Ashland Community Hospital.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, 987 Hillview Drive, Ashland, OR 97520.

She was born Grace Austin on Aug. 19, 1904 in Harbone, England, and moved to New York as a child. She lived in Kansas City for several years before settling in the Napa Valley in California.

On May 10, 1969, in Saint Helena, Calif., she married Arthur Sledge, who survives. She moved to Ashland in 1983.

Mrs. Sledge was a Realtor's secretary in Saint Helena, Calif. for many years.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, and was a volunteer with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

Mrs. Sledge enjoyed gardening, golfing and her dogs.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a stepson, Stephen Sledge, San Jose, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Sylvia Pettit, Los Banos, Calif.; four step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Eric VanDusen, who died in 1961; and by one brother and three sisters.

Ruth G. Drew

Ruth G. Drew, 73, of Medford, died Tuesday (Aug. 17, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A private service will be held.

She was born Ruth Phillips on Oct. 14, 1925, in Kalispell, Mont.

Mrs. Drew was an Avon representative until she retired. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1996 from Santa Cruz, Calif.

She enjoyed traveling, living throughout the United States and the ocean.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna Scott, Santa Cruz, Calif., and Genevie Drew, Loveland, Colo.; two brothers, Rocky Phillips, Pioneer, Calif., and David Phillips, Kalispell, Mont.; three sisters, Carol Wallace, Saratoga, Calif., Sylvia Centanne, Prescott, Ariz., and Emily Pallarino, Reno, Nev.; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ray.

Russell Calvin Albee

The memorial service for Russell Calvin Albee will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lincoln Willamette Funeral Directors in Portland. Inurnment will be at Willamette National Cemetery.

Mr. Albee, 45, of Butte Falls, died Monday (Aug. 16, 1999) in Butte Falls.

He was born Jan. 16, 1954, in Stuttgart, Germany, a son of Dale and Marjorie Albee. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Virginia in 1998.

Mr. Albee was a communications technician (technical) in the U.S. Navy for 22 years. He qualified as an aviation warfare specialist and was submarine qualified. He was a Desert Storm veteran and retired as a chief petty officer.

He was active in the Cub Scout and Boy Scout program. He was a member of the Prospects Lions Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1442 in Portland. He was an associate member of the Military Order Purple Heart Chapter 72 in Portland. He was secretary of the Prospect Bluegrass Festival.

Mr. Albee was an amateur radio operator and a member of the Amateur Radio Relay League. His call sign was WB7EHU.

He enjoyed mountain man rendezvous events and was a Civil War re-enactor with the 4th Texas Infantry. He enjoyed playing the banjo and had been invited to play at the Prospect Hotel on Friday and Saturday nights.

Survivors include a son, Russell S., Great Lakes Naval Base, Ill.; his father, Dale S., Prospect; a brother, Scott, Portland; two sisters, Doris Monson, Camas, Wash., and Donna Albee, San Antonio, Texas. His mother, Marjorie, died in 1993.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.
