Paul H. Horne
The memorial service for Paul H. Horne will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Phoenix Presbyterian Church, 121 W. Second St., Phoenix. The Rev. John Braund will officiate.
Mr. Horne, 90, of Medford, died Friday (Aug. 20, 1999) at his home.

Mr. Horne was born April 6, 1909, in Morningsun, Iowa. He moved to Ashland as a child and attended Ashland schools. On June 14, 1931, in Ashland, he married Letha Miles, who survives. The family moved to Klamath Falls in 1937, where Mr. Horne worked as a railroad switchman for 45 years, retiring in 1972. In 1973, the family moved to Medford.
Mr. Horne was a member of the Phoenix Presbyterian Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Paula Leanne Jepson of Portland; a foster daughter, Joanne Dean York of Newark, Calif.; a brother, Dr. Harry Dean Horne of Seattle; a sister, Helen Beth Lyon of Wilsonville; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Mr. Horne was preceded in death by a son and a daughter.

Shurman A. Gardner
The graveside service for Shurman Arthur Gardner will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Scenic Hills Memorial Park, 1181 Ashland St., Ashland.
Mr. Gardner, 82, of Ashland, died Saturday (Aug. 21, 1999), at his home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ashland Teen Center, 71 Winburn Way, Ashland, OR 97520.
Mr. Gardner was born Feb. 11, 1917, in Tulsa, Okla. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a welder. On May 17, 1945, in Alameda, Calif., he married Dorothy Bloom, who survives.
Mr. Gardner moved to Ashland in 1954. He worked for Medford Steel before becoming owner and operator of the Mountain View Nursing Home from 1957 to 1975. He later owned and managed several apartment buildings in Ashland.
Mr. Gardner was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a volunteer at the Ashland Teen Center.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Karen Grigg of Talent; two brothers, Ralph of El Cajon, Calif., and Kenneth of San Ramon, Calif.; three sisters, Boots Murphy of Ashland, Dolly Waymire of Indiana and Helen Stacy of Albuquerque, N.M.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, a sister, a half-brother and two half-sisters.

Esther Bennett
The funeral service for Esther Lily Bennett will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2201 N. Phoenix Road, Medford.
Mrs. Bennett, 96, of Medford, died Friday (Aug. 20, 1999) at Three Fountains Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Medford.

Mrs. Bennett was born Esther Lily Miller on April 12, 1903, in Marcola, Ore. On Jan. 5, 1926, in Dodge City, Kan., she married Edwin A. Bennett, who died in 1974.
The family moved to the Rogue Valley in 1936 from Wichita, Kan. Mrs. Bennett and her husband worked for Cumming Gardens and other area farms. They also worked for Pulvers Motel. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing and reading.
Survivors include two sons, Earl of Central Point and Bruce of Salem; two sisters, Mildred Hall of Tucson, Ariz., and Thelma Champney of Springfield, Mont.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Emma Huff
Emma Josephine Huff, 62, of Prospect, died Friday (Aug. 20, 1999) at her home. No service is planned.
She was born Emma Armbruster on Aug. 8, 1937, in Yuma, Ariz. On March 5, 1995, in Yuma, she married Joe Russel Huff, who survives.
Mrs. Huff moved to the Rogue Valley from Yuma in 1998. She was a homemaker. A longtime member of the West Yuma Baptist Church, she enjoyed reading, crafts and her family.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Bonnie Jones of Prospect and Sheryl Toliver of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Warren Armbruster of Alpine, Calif., and Tommy Armbruster of Yuma; her mother, Gladys Armbruster of Yuma; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son and a brother.

Christine D. Christy
Christine D. Christy, 51, of Medford, died Tuesday (Aug. 17, 1999) at Three Fountains Nursing Home. A private service will be held.
She was born Christine Jensen on Aug. 23, 1947, in Seattle. She moved to the Rogue Valley from The Dalles in 1985.
Mrs. Christy was a homemaker.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing and reading.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel J. and Douglas H., both Medford; her father, Ralph Jensen, Beaver, Wash.; and a sister, Karlan Willits, Estacada. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lorine Eunice Cavanaugh.

Denzil Lee Willis
The funeral for Denzil Lee Willis will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Belt Masonic Lodge in Kerby. Graham Baker, W.B., will officiate. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Willis, 81, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday (Aug. 18, 1999) at his home.

He was born May 31, 1918, in Strafford, Mo.
Mr. Willis retired as a general superintendent for Pacific Pipeline in Southern California in 1979. Following his retirement, he moved to Grants Pass from West Covina, Calif.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Willis was a member of the Belt Lodge No. 18, and a past Master of the Lodge, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Hillah Temple, Legion of Honor, Western Star No. 64, White Shrine, Amaranth, Rogue River Daylight Lodge and the Hillbilly Clan (part of the Masonic Lodge). He was a member of the Carpenters Union in California for 57 years.
He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Mardean, Grants Pass; a son, Denzil Lee Jr., Saudia Arabia; two daughters, Anne Marie Wilson, Birmingham, Ala., and Mary Ellen Settle, Dallas, Texas; a brother, John Otis, Oakland, Calif.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may pay their respects from 1 to 4 p.m. today at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home in Grants Pass.
Howard Marion Lord
The graveside service for Howard Marion Lord will be at 1 p.m Monday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. Pastor Bill Gallagher of Cornerstone Christian Church will officiate.
Mr. Lord, 64, of Medford, died Friday (Aug. 20, 1999) in Medford.

He was born May 19, 1935, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
On Dec. 20, 1989, in Reno, Nev., he married Virginia Holsted, who survives.
Mr. Lord served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1984, retiring after 32 years.
He enjoyed traveling and playing card games and was a master joke teller.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Dwayne, Medford; a daughter, Dawne Cheyne, Medford; two stepdaughters, Carla Rouch, Paso Robles, Calif., and Shanda Jones, Orange, Calif.; a brother, Bud, Leawood, Kan.; and six grandchildren.

Dorothy C. Stephens
The memorial service for Dorothy C. Stephens will be at 10 a.m. today at 4677 Highway 66, Ashland. The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. The Local Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of Ashland will officiate at both services.
Mrs. Stephens, 77, of Ashland, died Thursday (Aug. 19, 1999) at her home.

She was born Dorothy C. Hofler on Dec. 15, 1921 in Logan, Utah. On Dec. 19, 1941, in Logan, she married Kenneth Dean Stephens, who survives. In 1980 they moved from Nevada to Grants Pass, where they lived until moving to Ashland in 1993.
Mrs. Stephens was a homemaker. She was a member of the Baha'i Faith and the quilting club in Grants Pass. She enjoyed hand work of all kinds -- sewing, quilting, cooking and canning.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four daughters, Cheryl L. Bazan of Salem, Judith Ann Barnes of Clearlake Oaks, Calif., Loya K. Dennis of San Pablo, Calif., and Jeanine F. Rockwell of El Cajon, Calif.; three sons, K. Dean Jr. of Oahu, Hawaii, Ron G. of Puerto Rico, and Jim N. of Ashland; a brother, Grant Hofler of Ogden, Utah; four sisters, Pearl Allen of Provo, Utah, Gladys Smith of Washington, Helen Allen of Centerville, Utah, and Evelyn Pendleton; 20 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Sylvan Hofler, and two sisters, Phyllis Lungman and Gloria Hofler.
