Michael L. Shaw
The graveside service for Michael Lawrence Shaw will be at 2 p.m. today in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Pastor Elliott Lovelace of Talent Bible Chapel will officiate.
Mr. Shaw, 47, of Medford, died Saturday (Sept. 11, 1999) at his home.

He was born April 29, 1952, in Long Beach, Calif., a son of Richard Lawrence and Cecilia Shaw. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1962 from Long Beach.
Mr. Shaw was a service station attendant for the Shell Oil station on Barnett Road.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1971 to 1974.
Mr. Shaw was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed wildlife, the shooting range, refurbishing cars, and was an avid Kansas City Chief football fan.
Survivors include two sons, Richard and Loren, both Talent; a daughter, Dezzira Shaw, Central Point; his mother, Cecilia Shaw, Phoenix; two brothers, Timothy, White City and John, Jacksonville; a sister, Rebecca Sutter, Medford; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Lawrence Shaw; and his twin brother, Donald Shaw.

Solomon Albert Hattem
Solomon "Sam" Albert Hattem, 74, of Central Point, died Friday (Sept. 10, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A private service has been held.
He was born Oct. 31, 1924, in Los Angeles, a son of Albert and Jolie (Comhi) Hattem.
On Aug. 20, 1962, in Reno, Nev., he married Evelyn Hyman Sovel, who survives.
They moved to Central Point nine years ago from California.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Rick Sovel, Modesto, Calif., Michael Sovel, Moreno Valley, Calif., and Brian Hattem, Columbia Falls, Mont.; three daughters, Joni Bayley, Medford, Sherry Wilmes, Napa, Calif., and Kerri Matz, Aliso Viejo, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Judy L. McCormac
The funeral for Judy L. McCormac will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. The Rev. Bill Halstead of the Ashland Foursquare Church will officiate.
Ms. McCormac, 45, of Ashland, died Friday (Sept. 10, 1999) at her home.
She was born June 21, 1954, in Jackson, Mich., a daughter of Maxwell Leroy and Louise Mary (Rice) Coppernoll. She moved to California from Michigan in 1980, and to Ashland in 1981.
Ms. McCormac was a press operator for the Southern Oregon University Duplicating Department.
Survivors include a son, Maxwell McCormac, Ashland; her parents, Max and Louise Coppernoll, Jackson, Mich.; a sister, Penny Jabkiewicz, Medford; and five brothers, Jody, Ronny, Randy, Michael and Terry Coppernoll, all Jackson, Mich.

Cynthia Marie Huff
The graveside service for Cynthia Marie Huff will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Grants Pass. Pastor Stan Johnson of the West Main Church of Christ will officiate.
Mrs. Huff, 44, of Ashland, died Monday (Sept. 13, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
She was born April 13, 1955, in Vancouver, Wash., a daughter of Ruth and George Shook. She was raised in Portland and Grants Pass, and attended Grants Pass High School.
On Jan. 21, 1977, in Grants Pass, she married Pat Huff, who survives. They moved to Ashland in 1984.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Travis Andrew Huff, Ashland, and David Roger Thomas, Central Point; her mother, Ruth Shook, Portland; three brothers, Paul Shook, Medford, Mark Shook, Rogue River, and William Shook, Seattle; a sister, Stincy Shook, Portland; her grandmother, Elsie Scoggins, Portland; and one grandchild.

Alfreda J. Luther
Alfreda Josephine Luther, 87, of Rogue River, died Wednesday (Sept. 1, 1999) at Laurel Hill Nursing Center. A private service will be held at Gridley Cemetery in Gridley, Calif.
She was born Feb. 3, 1912, in Indianola, Iowa, a daughter of Alfred and Joanna Wilson.
In 1929, in Yakima, Wash., she married Raymond Luther, who died in 1984. She moved to Rogue River in 1987 from Angwin, Calif.
Mrs. Luther was the vice president of Rayalco in California before her retirement.
She was a member of the Pacific Union Seventh-day Adventist Church in Angwin, Calif.
Mrs. Luther enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling and reading.
Survivors include a son, Calvin, Stockton, Calif.; a daughter, Bernadine Clark, Rogue River; six grandchildren; and seven great-granddaughters.

Verna Orpha DeVelbiss
The graveside service for Verna Orpha DeVelbiss will be at 1 p.m. today in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford.
Mrs. DeVelbiss, 77, of Central Point, died Tuesday (Aug. 31, 1999) in Medford.
She was born Nov. 9, 1921, in Buffalo Prairie, Ill., a daughter of Mack and Gladys Hood.
In 1979, in Reno, Nev., she married Melvin DeVelbiss, who died in 1995.
She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1998 from Reedsport, where she had lived since 1979.
Mrs. DeVelbiss was a clerk for the Reedsport Chamber of Commerce for eight years.
In Reedsport, she was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, T.O.P.S. Club, the Lion's Auxiliary, and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. DeVelbiss was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Reedsport.
She enjoyed ceramics and crafts.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Joseph, Salem, and Danny Joseph, Winston; two daughters, Brenda Lanier, Rogue River, and Judy Chiles, Anza, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Jon Hodson.
Friends may pay their respects from 10 a.m. to noon today at Conger-Morris in Medford.
Sidney Ernest Funk
Sidney Ernest Funk, 87, of Rogue River, died Sunday (Aug. 29, 1999) at Three Rivers Community Hospital, Washington Campus. No service is planned.
He was born Jan. 9, 1912, in Slocomb, Ark.
On Aug. 16, 1955, in Winnemucca, Nev., he married Katherine L. Bell, who died in 1983.
In Idaho, Mr. Funk worked for the Ford Tractor Co. on dairy farms and in orchards. He moved to Central Point from Boise in 1955, and then to the Foots Creek area of Gold Hill. In Medford, he worked at the experimental pear orchard for 17 years.
During World War II, Mr. Funk served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was captured on Corregidor in the Philippines and was a Japanese prisoner for three years.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.
Survivors include three sisters, Vivian Buck and Iva Lemons, both Salem, and Edna Rood, Emmett, Idaho; a brother, Melvin H., Boise; a stepson, Don Linville, Wagner, Okla; three granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren.

Franklin Hal Gebhard
The memorial service for Franklin Hal Gebhard will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Eastwood Baptist Church in Medford. Pastor George Nye will officiate. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mr. Gebhard, 73, of Medford, died Tuesday (Aug. 31, 1999) in a local foster home.

He was born Dec. 12, 1925, in Long Island, Kan., a son of Walter and Marrea Gebhard. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Kansas in 1929.
On Aug. 11, 1948, in Grants Pass, he married Mary Lou Linkhart, who survives.
Mr. Gebhard owned and operated Gebhard Orchard in the Rogue Valley. He retired in 1989.
He was a board member for Rogue River Irrigation District, the Rogue Basin Flood Control and Water Resources Committee; past chairman of Southern Oregon Water Users Association; and was a former member of the Budget Committee for the Bear Creek Valley Sanitary Authority. For many years he was the Irrigation District representative to the Rogue Valley Council of Governments.
He was also on the board of directors of the Central Point State Bank, which later became Crater Bank and is now Western Bank. As a former commander of the American Legion in Central Point, he was involved in many community civic functions.
Mr. Gebhard served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
He was a member of the Eastwood Baptist Church.
Mr. Gebhard enjoyed fishing, gardening and raising pears.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Karen Clinkinbeard, Medford, and Judith Travis, in California; a sister, Meryllene Smith, in California; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A brother, Edwin W. Gebhard, died in 1988.
