Lois Young

The memorial service for Lois Young will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Calvary Assembly of God in Jacksonville. Pastor Terry Luttrell will officiate. Private interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford.

Mrs. Young, 76, of Medford, died Monday (Sept. 6, 1999) in Applegate.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Assembly of God, 520 N. Fifth St., Jacksonville, OR 97503.

She was born Lois L. Morgan on Jan. 11, 1923, in Wheeler, Ark. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1946 from Corcoran, Calif.

On June 20, 1949, in Gold Hill, she married Everett Young, who survives.

Mrs. Young was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God in Jacksonville.

Mrs. Young enjoyed gardening, camping and traveling.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, David Sills, Central Point, and Greg Young, Florence; a daughter, Myrna Wright, Nampa, Idaho; a sister, Elizabeth Bandy, Medford; three brothers, John Morgan, Hermiston, Carl Morgan, Jacksonville, and Bob Morgan, Woodburn; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Thomas `Blank' Baaken

The memorial service for Thomas Wayne "Blank" Dietrich Baaken will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Charles Christopher of St. Mark Episcopal Church will officiate.

Mr. Baaken, 35, of Medford, died Saturday (Sept. 4, 1999) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

Mr. Baaken was born Feb. 15, 1964, in Medford, a son of Robert and Martha Blank. He lived in the Rogue Valley his entire life.

Mr. Baaken was a customer service representative for Bear Creek Corp.

He was a member of St. Mark Episcopal Church.

Mr. Baaken enjoyed driving to the coast, photography and gardening.

Survivors include his mother, Martha Blank, Medford; five brothers, Jerrall Deitrick, Eagle Point, Roger and James L. Blank, both Medford, Samuel A. Blank, Central Point, and Robert J. Blank, Rogue River; and a sister, Catherine Ness, Medford. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Blank; and a sister, Carol Ann Blank.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Gola `Pete' Collins

The memorial service for Gola "Pete" W.H.L. Collins will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. Veterans for Veterans will officiate.

Mr. Collins, 68, of Central Point, died Monday (Sept. 6, 1999) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

He was born April 14, 1931, in Muncie, Ind. He moved from Indiana to Oregon 49 years ago.

On Sept. 10, 1953, in Pendleton, he married Kathryn A. Moyle, who survives.

Mr. Collins was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1833, in Medford.

He enjoyed traveling and golf.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include five sons, Dean W. and Dane G., both Medford, Tracy H., Central Point, Thomas R., Van Buren, Ark., and David J., Hanscom Air Force Base, Woburn, Mass.; a daughter, Donna K. Barnes, Turner; a brother, Russell E., White City; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Sue Collins.

Martin Berchin

Family and friends of Martin Berchin will gather at 4:30 p.m. today in Horton Plaza. The Rev. Josue Delgado of Providence Medford Medical Center will officiate. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Berchin, 84, of Medford, died Sunday (Sept. 5, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

Mr. Berchin was born Jan. 5, 1915, in Jersey City, N.J.

On Dec. 1, 1942, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., he married Anna Shore, who preceded him in death. He moved to the Rogue Valley 1 1/2 years ago from McDonald Ranch in Las Vegas, Nev.

In Las Vegas, Mr. Berchin owned Berchin Enterprises, a manufacturer representative company for the lawn and garden industry, and the distributor for Miracle Grow products.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Berchin was a member of the Jewish faith.

He was an avid golfer.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Ealy, Eagle Point, and Sharon Berchin, Palm Desert, Calif.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Roslyn; and a brother, William.

Eleanor L. Steindorf

The memorial service for Eleanor L. Steindorf will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, at Rogue Valley Manor. Chaplain Don Hildebrand will officiate.

Dr. Steindorf, 89, of Medford, died Aug. 30, 1999, in Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dogs for the Deaf, 10175 Wheeler Road, Central Point, OR 97502, or to the Audubon Society, P.O. Box 8597, Medford, OR 97504.

Dr. Steindorf was born April 23, 1910, in Wheeling, W.Va.

On Jan. 29, 1959, in Las Vegas, she married Earl Johnson, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley nine years ago from Laguna Hills, Calif.

Dr. Steindorf was in private practice until 1967 in Pasadena, Calif., where she was on the active staff of Huntington Memorial Hospital. From 1967 to 1969, she was director of Maternal and Child Health for the Long Beach Health Department. From 1969 to 1978, she was assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Southern California Medical School, and attending physician in the Maternity and Infant Care Project. She retired in November 1978.

She was a life member of both the Los Angeles Ob-Gyn Society and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She was also a member of the Zonta Club of Pasadena, a service organization, from 1945 to 1978. She served as secretary and president.

Dr. Steindorf was an active member of the Laguna Hills Christian Church and the Audubon Society.

She enjoyed photography and slide presentations, dogs, bird-watching and travel.

Survivors include four nephews, Robert R. Renner, Skaneateles, N.Y., John W. Renner, Beechwood, Ohio, Daniel S. Renner, Gates Mills, Ohio, and David Steindorf, Loudonville, N.Y.; three nieces, Ruth R. Percy, Ponce Inlet, Fla., Mary M. Renner, Petaluma, Calif., and Susan S. Dingerl, Windsor, Ontario. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jennie Steindorf Renner and Margaret V. Steindorf; and a brother, Robert Steindorf.

Ruby A. Twedell

The funeral for Ruby Arizona Twedell will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Memory Gardens Mortuary. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Medford.

Mrs. Twedell, 95, of Orofino, Idaho, formerly of Medford, died Saturday (Sept. 4, 1999) in Idaho.

Friends may pay their respects from 4 to 7:30 p.m. today in Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

George Edward Ash

The graveside service for George Edward Ash will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Trail Cemetery. Pastor John Mack of Gospel Tabernacle will officiate.

Mr. Ash, 50, of Trail, died Sept. 1, 1999, at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous, Jackson County Central Office, 110 Sixth St., Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Oct. 10, 1948, in Medford. He lived in the Rogue Valley his entire life.

Mr. Ash worked for Chancellor Logging and C.M.W. Logging.

He served in the U.S. Army as a night reconnaissance specialist during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Ash was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous for eight years. He was a major speaker for AA in the Northwest and Alaska. He helped establish the Medford Oxford house, taking meetings to the jail, taking new members to meetings and serving wherever needed. He was the Shady Cove group treasurer.

Survivors include a son, James, Medford; a daughter, Heidi Baldwin, Medford; his mother, Georgina Brooks, Mariposa, Calif.; three sisters, Virginia Rigel, Eagle Point, Limarie Moody, Trail, and Linda Spicer, Wyandotte, Okla. He was preceded in death by his father, Gene Ash, in 1997; and by a twin brother, Edward G. Ash, in 1969.

Jane B. Stamper

Jane B. Stamper, 83, of Medford, died Saturday (Sept. 4, 1999) at Hearthstone. A private service will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 3101 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97201.

She was born Jane B. Robbins on April 8, 1916, in Detroit.

In 1936, in California, she married Edgar Stamper, who died in 1953. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1980 from Torrance, Calif.

Mrs. Stamper was a bookkeeper for the county of Los Angeles until her retirement.

She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member and past president of the Medford Garden Club.

Mrs. Stamper was a member of the Episcopal Church.

She enjoyed gardening, knitting and crocheting.

Survivors include a son, Larry, Medford; two brothers, Dick Stanbook, La Jolla, Calif., and Don Stanbook, Bakersfield, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
