August Palmer
The graveside service for August Woodall Palmer has been held at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Pastor Rod Howell of Central Neighborhood Church in Phoenix officiated.
Mr. Palmer, 67, of Medford, died Wednesday (Sept. 1, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born March 11, 1932, in Piqua, Kansas.
On Aug. 18, 1956, in Portland, he married Charlotte Krebs, who survives.
Mr. Palmer lived in Oregon for 65 years, and the Rogue Valley for the last 17 years. He owned and operated ABC Janitorial Service until his retirement in 1997.
Mr. Palmer enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and joking around.
He was a member of Central Neighborhood Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Ronda Everist, Medford, and Diana Nelson, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son, Ron A. Palmer, Medford; brothers Arthur, Oxnard, Calif., and Rubin, Portland; sisters Puggy Palmer, Wamic, Audrey Redding, Portland, and Lillian Thompson, Little Rock, Ark.; 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Floyd C. Holden
The memorial service for Floyd Clifford "Cowboy" Holden will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Ruch Community Church.
Mr. Holden, 47, of Ruch, died Friday (Sept. 3, 1999) of a heart attack at Providence Medford Medical Center.
He was born June 27, 1952, in California, and moved to the Rogue Valley as an infant.
On Sept. 3, 1977, in Medford, he married Debra Norman, who survives.
Mr. Holden graduated from Phoenix High School in 1972 and worked at Boise Cascade Corp. for 22 years. He also founded Floyd C. Holden Cabinets and spent the past three years working at Costco. He enjoyed visiting with friends and strangers at local coffee shops.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Timothy and Danny Joe, both of Ruch; his mother, Pauline Holden; four sisters and six brothers. He was preceded in death by his father, Crafton "Shorty" Holden, one sister and two brothers.

Ruby Arizona Twedell
Ruby Arizona Twedell, 95, formerly of Medford, died Saturday (Sept. 4, 1999) in Orofino, Idaho, where she had been living with her son and his wife since 1998. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Memory Gardens Funeral Home of Medford.
She was born March 10, 1904, in West Plains, Mo., a daughter of Ulric and Nora Keener. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1934.
On Dec. 14, 1929, in Peoria, Ill., she married Ross Allen Twedell, who died Oct. 1, 1986.
During the 1930s, Mrs. Twedell worked for Bear Creek Orchards. She was a homemaker during the 1940s.
From 1950 until her retirement in 1995, Mrs. Twedell pursued her art career. A well-known area artist, one of her paintings is in the time capsule cornerstone of the Medford courthouse. She also owned and operated two art galleries and taught art for many years.
She graduated from what is now Southern Oregon University in Ashland.
Mrs. Twedell was a longtime member and former president of the Southern Oregon Art Society. She was a member of Assembly of God Church in Medford, where one of her paintings hangs above the church baptismal.
In addition to art, Mrs. Twedell enjoyed her family, her faith and music, and could play many stringed and keyboard instruments.
Survivors include two sons, Roger Twedell, Medford, and Rod Twedell, Orofino, Idaho, a brother, Don Keener of Medford; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosalie Kounz-Palmdale, five sisters and three brothers.
James Evans Harris
James Evans Harris, 83, of Medford, died Saturday (Sept. 4, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private family service will be held.
He was born June 17, 1916, in Kansas City, Mo. He moved to the Rogue Valley eight years ago.
Mr. Harris retired in 1971 as a battalion chief for the Palm Springs (Calif.) Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing and traveling.
Survivors include a son, Jack Harris of Medford; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myra, in 1989, and a son, Jim Harris, in 1995.

Donald Pearson
The funeral for Donald Pearson will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Perl Funeral Service, Siskiyou Chapel. The Rev. Robert Larson of Ascension Lutheran Church will officiate.
Mr. Pearson, 66, of Medford, died Friday (Sept. 4, 1999) at Ashland Community Hospital.

He was born Feb. 24, 1933, in Myrtle Point. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Roseburg in 1958.
In 1953, in Roseburg, he married Noreen Allen. The two were later divorced; she survives. On June 22, 1997, in Sparks, Nev., he married Adela Pearson, who survives.
Mr. Pearson owned and operated the Drive-In Market in Talent, as well as other restaurants and lounges in Jackson and Klamath counties.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy as a communications specialist.
He was a member of the Ashland Elks for 45 years. He enjoyed flying, playing golf and rafting.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his mother, Sybil Ingram, Medford; two sons, Kenneth Allen, Medford, and Kevin Lee, Salem; two daughters, Kathie Ann Pearson, Eugene, and Keri Lynn Pearson, Medford; a sister, Mary Lynne Halseth, Woodland, Wash.;
and four granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his father, Earnest Pearson, and one grandson.

Richard O. Skeeters
The committal service for Richard O. Skeeters will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. Ashland Elks Lodge No. 944 will officiate.
Mr. Skeeters, 78, of Medford, died Sunday (Sept. 5, 1999) at his home.

He was born March 17, 1921, in Medford, a son of Charles and Hazel (Payne) Skeeters. He was a lifetime resident of the Rogue Valley. His family moved here in the 1850s.
On Sept. 28, 1946, in Talent, he married Annabell Riggs, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Skeeters owned and operated a branch of Skeeters Logging from 1946 until 1980. His father, Charles, had started Skeeters Logging, using horse-drawn teams, in 1910.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Skeeters was a member of the Ashland Elks Lodge No. 944 for more than 30 years. He was also a member of the Medford Gun Club, and in 1953 he was on the Sports Field All American Trap Shooting Team.
He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
Survivors include two sons, Charles R., Medford, and David W., Eagle Point; and five grandchildren.

Harold Weston Austin
Harold Weston Austin, 93, of Ashland, died Aug. 29, 1999, in Ashland Community Hospital. A private graveside service was held at Scenic Hills Memorial Park.

He was born July 2, 1906, in Bakersfield, Calif., a son of Ephraim and Buehla (McKenzie) Austin. He was a 1926 graduate of Cal-Poly Technical Institute in Long Beach, Calif.
On June 15, 1940, in Yuma, Ariz., he married Marie Chambers, who survives.
Before moving to Oregon in 1944, Mr. Austin worked as a longshoreman in Long Beach, Calif.
In Ashland, he was a Hyster driver for Magnolia Lumber Mill on East Main Street from 1946 to 1964. He and his wife owned and operated Snow White Freeze at the corner of Garfield and Siskiyou from 1953 to 1961. In 1964, he purchased Trites Restaurant Supplies, which he operated for 10 years as Austin Restaurant Supplies.
Mr. Austin also worked for Whitelaw Candy Co. in Medford from 1974 to 1983.
He was a life member of Woodman of the World, and was a member of the Ashland Elks Lodge No. 944.
Mr. Austin enjoyed traveling, fishing, reading and gardening.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Patricia Zimmerlee, Ashland, and Peggy Schmaltz, Medford; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, five sisters and one grandson.

Donald `Abe' Shaw
Donald "Abe" Shaw, 64, of Medford, died Sunday (Sept. 5, 1999) at his home. No service is planned.
He was born Nov. 20, 1934, in Rifle, Colo.
On June 17, 1995, in Cotati, Calif., he married Rose Conken, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1979 from Denver.
Mr. Shaw enjoyed gardening, fishing and camping.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Deborah Allen, Redding, Calif., Deanna Plotnikoff, Cottonwood, Ariz., and Jennifer Shaw, Forest Grove; three sons, Dana, Medford, Don, Redding, Calif., and Dwayne, Denver; two sisters; four brothers;11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters.
