Jack Brock Scales

The memorial service for Jack Brock Scales will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Scales, 48, of Medford, died Friday (Sept. 17, 1999) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Doernbecher Children's Hospital, 3181 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97201.

He was born May 3, 1951, in Buffalo, N.Y.

Mr. Scales worked in a sawmill in Eureka, Calif. He moved to the Rogue Valley five years ago from Northern California.

He served in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Scales enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include a brother, Don, Euless, Texas; and a half-brother, Ronald Lee Owen, Medina, N.Y.

Barbara Robinson

The funeral for Barbara Robinson will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Victory Christian Center. Pastor Bob Longan will officiate.

Mrs. Robinson, 66, of Medford, died Tuesday (Aug. 31, 1999) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Victory Christian Center, c/o Pastor Bob Longan, 143 N. Grape St., Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Barbara Maynard on March 26, 1933, in San Francisco. She grew up in San Angelo, Texas. In 1950, she moved to the Rogue Valley and graduated from Medford High School in 1951.

On Aug. 22, 1952, in Reno, Nev., she married Robert Robinson, who survives.

Mrs. Robinson worked for the Swift Independent Meat Packing Company for 30 years. She also worked for the Red Cross for several years.

She was a member of the Victory Christian Center, where she did volunteer work and ran the church bookstore with her husband. She enjoyed sewing, reading and crocheting.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three daughters, Christina Jacobson, Ashland, Mary Kay Sterrett, Phoenix, and Brenda Clayton, Bloomington, Ind.; a sister, Beverly Peters, Newport; a brother, Robert Maynard; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandchild.

Sally Gibbons

The memorial service for Selma "Sally" Virginia Gibbons will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. George Episcopal Church in Roseburg. The Rev. Sherman Hesselgrave will officiate. A reception will follow in the church social hall. Private cremation rites have been held.

Mrs. Gibbons, 93, of Roseburg, formerly of Medford, died Tuesday (Aug. 31, 1999) at a Roseburg nursing center.

She was born Aug. 20, 1906, in Oakland, Calif., a daughter of Frank A. and Minnie (Teaman) Colbourn.

On June 15, 1929, in Oakland, Calif., she married Glen A. "Mike" Gibbons, who died in 1985. Following her marriage, she moved to Madrid, Spain. She lived in Medford from 1938 until 1952, when she moved to Roseburg.

In Roseburg, she and her husband owned and operated Family Finance. They retired in 1969, and moved to Walnut Creek, Calif., returning to Medford in 1981.

In Medford, she was a member of Rogue Valley Country Club, the Colony Club, and the Contemporary Book Club, where she gave reports on musicals and books.

Mrs. Gibbons sang with the Medford Choral Society, and was a member of the Episcopal Church choir wherever she lived. In Roseburg, she was on the altar committee of St. George's, providing flower arrangements.

She enjoyed music, entertaining, travel and gardening. She always had fresh flowers from her garden in her home, and a single rose was always present on her coffee table. She had traveled throughout the United States, Europe, China and Mexico.

Survivors include two daughters, Virginia McKay, Roseburg, and Jean Rounds, Folsom, Calif.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Robert Colbourn.

Elna N. Parr

Elna N. Parr, 96, of Medford, died Friday (Sept. 3, 1999) at Hearthstone. No service is planned.

She was born Elna Evans on Nov. 8, 1902, in Devils Lake, N.D. She grew up in North Dakota.

On March 24, 1940, in Great Falls, Mont., she married Louis C. Parr, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1973 from San Francisco.

Survivors include a son, Jack Sloan, Medford; one grandchild; four great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandchild.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services, Medford.

Aidan James Murphy

The memorial service for Aidan James Murphy, infant son of Steven and Jodi Murphy of Central Point, will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Bear Creek Church, 913 Chevy Way, Medford. Pastor Dale Meador will officiate.

Aidan, one month, died Wednesday (Sept. 1, 1999) in Portland.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House of Portland Inc., 2620 N. Commercial, Portland, OR 97227.

He was born July 29, 1999, in Medford.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include a sister, Maegan Murphy, Central Point.

Stanley Walley

Stanley Walley, 72, of Louisburg, Kansas, formerly of Medford, died Aug. 27, 1999, at his home in Louisburg. A service will be held in Kansas. Inurnment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Louisburg Baptist Temple, 55 Peoria St., Louisburg, KS 66053.

He was born March 8, 1927, in Amsterdam, Mo. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Roseburg in 1961.

Mr. Walley worked for Medco until his retirement in 1987. He moved to Kansas in 1988.

Survivors include his wife, Lois, Louisburg, Kansas; three daughters, Launa Dodd and Tonya Twedell, both Central Point, and Cynthia Scudder, Redmond; a brother, Zenis, Arroyo Grande, Calif.; two sisters, Jean Smith, Drexel, Mo., and Lois McClanahan, St. Joseph, Mo. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Glenna.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

Clarence L. McGonagle

Clarence Lee McGonagle, 72, of Medford, died Thursday (Sept. 2, 1999) at his home. No service is planned.

He was born Jan. 27, 1927, in Medford, a son of Jesse and Mabel (Haggard) McGonagle. He grew up and attended schools in the Medford area.

Mr. McGonagle was a sheet metal worker.

During World War II, he served in the United States Army.

Survivors include three brothers, Art, Medford, Louis, Harbor, and Dave, in Montana; and two sisters, Hazel Shopp, Medford, and Bertha Eisenberg, Trail. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph, and a sister, Vida Young.

Alvin Francis Herbst

The graveside service for Alvin Francis Herbst will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. Veterans for Veterans will officiate.

Mr. Herbst, 69, of Rogue River, died Friday (Sept. 3, 1999) at his home.

He was born Jan. 22, 1930, in Grosse Pointe, Mich. He lived in the Rogue Valley from 1969 until 1986, when he moved to Fallon, Nev. He returned to the Rogue Valley in 1994.

Mr. Herbst was a truck driver for 35 years, retiring in 1990.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Herbst was a former member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, rafting and CB radios.

Survivors include his companion, Jeanette Wootan, Rogue River; three sons, Alan Herbst, Central Point, Jim Herbst, Shreveport, La., and Lee Rigiero, Jacksonville; three daughters, Viola Covent, Granada Hills, Calif., Danette Unger and Rayejean Kemp, both in Idaho; a sister, Virginia Kutziske, Redford, Mich.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, John.

Leslie N. Pruett

Leslie N. Pruett, 86, of Talent, died Thursday (Sept. 2, 1999) at his home. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born March 12, 1913, in Ashland, a son of Perl and Mary (Williams) Pruett. He attended school in Klamath Falls, and lived in the Rogue Valley all of his life.

On Jan. 25, 1949, in Talent, he married June Florence Bryant, who survives.

Mr. Pruett was a construction laborer at the Talent Sawmill. He also worked as a truck driver.

During World War II, he served in the U. S. Army in Infantry B, 748th Field Artillery Unit in Europe.

Mr. Pruett was a member of American Legion Post No. 15, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5597.

He attended the Talent Friends Church.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a brother, Edward, Tillamook; three sisters, Ruby Kester and Aletha Hughes, both Medford, and Alicia Welburn, Salem. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis and Delbert, and two sisters, Thelma Short and Margaret Pruett.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.
