Arlis Cate Pettigrew
The memorial service for Arlis Cate Pettigrew will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville. Pastor Larry Jung will officiate.
Mrs. Pettigrew, 71, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday (Sept. 21, 1999) at her home.

She was born Arlis Youngs on June 7, 1928, in Ashland.
In November 1948, in Ashland, she married William Cate, who died in 1983.
On April 18, 1996, she married Jim Pettigrew, who survives.
She moved to Jacksonville from Central Point in 1969.
Mrs. Pettigrew was a homemaker.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville and a member of Lifetime Ashland High School-1947. She also belonged to the Social Benefit Club, 40 Plus Dance Club in Medford.
Mrs. Pettigrew enjoyed singing, dancing, sewing and gardening.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Lyndle Cate, Medford; a daughter, Janis Adams, Thermopolis, Wyo.; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters.

Audrey La Fern Meyer
Audrey La Fern Meyer, 59, of Central Point, died Tuesday (Sept. 21, 1999) at a foster care home in Medford. No service is planned.

She was born Nov. 18, 1939, in Klamath Falls, a daughter of Raymond and Chloris (Olson) Meyer. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1989 from Klamath Falls.
Ms. Meyer was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Klamath Falls, and the Faith Bible Center in Medford.
She enjoyed reading the Bible, embroidery and puzzle books.
Survivors include a sister, Elaine Minger, Central Point. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Meyer, in 1985; and her mother, Chloris (Olson) Meyer, in 1989.

Thomas Mark Lunsford
Thomas Mark Lunsford, 40, of Medford, died Tuesday (Sept. 21, 1999) at his home.
He was born Jan. 29, 1959, in Ashland. He lived in the Rogue Valley his entire life, and graduated from Butte Falls High School in 1977.
Survivors include a daughter, Crystal Marie Lunsford, Butte Falls; two sons, Mark and Thomas Lunsford, both Butte Falls; his mother, Joan Andrews, Medford; two sisters, Donna Bowman, Vernonia, and Beverly Greathouse, in Oregon; and his grandmother, Shirley Lunsford, Portland.

Opal M. Lanham
The funeral for Opal M. Lanham will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Hull & Hull Chapel in Grants Pass. Phil Lewis will officiate.
Mrs. Lanham, 96, of Gold Hill, died Tuesday (Sept. 21, 1999) at Medford Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
She was born Oct. 10, 1902, in Nebraska, a daughter of Bert and Orilla (Werden) Underhill. She moved to Gold Hill in 1946 from Santa Barbara, Calif.
On April 7, 1948, in Grants Pass, she married Alvin C. Lanham, who survives.
In Nebraska, Mrs. Lanham taught in a one-room school. In Gold Hill and Rogue River, she worked as a beauty operator, as well as working in full-time ministry with her husband from 1961 to the present.
She attended Watch Tower Bible School of Gilead in New York, and was a member of the Rogue River Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Mrs. Lanham enjoyed traveling, including overseas trips to the Holy Land.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Roland Washburn, Gold Hill; a sister, Audrey Kearney, Bakersfield, Calif.; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Her first husband, Leo Washburn, to whom she was married for 15 years, died in 1947.
Friends may pay their respects from noon to 4 p.m. today at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, Grants Pass.
Clara Smith
The memorial service for Clara Smith will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church in Ashland.
Mrs. Smith, 92, of Palm Springs, Calif., formerly of Ashland, died Aug. 21, 1999, in Palm Springs.
She was born July 29, 1907, in Springfield, a daughter of Charles and Maryann Miller.
In 1928, in Burlington, Wash., she married Vern Smith, former Ashland chief of police, who died in 1967. She lived in Ashland for 55 years.
Mrs. Smith was an international telephone operator in San Diego while her husband served in the U.S. Navy. During World War II, she worked as a PBX operator at Camp White.
Survivors include a daughter, Sylvia Smith, Victorville, Calif.; two sons, Richard, Palm Springs, and Bruce, Skillman, New Jersey; a brother, Kenneth Miller, Grants Pass; a sister, Elizabeth Gennette, Chico, Calif.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

James L. Cox
The memorial service for James L. Cox will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday (Oct. 3) in the Angus Bowmer Theatre at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland.
Mr. Cox, 56, of Ashland, died Aug. 26, 1999, at his home.

Margaret Mary Snyder
Margaret Mary Snyder, 92, of Medford, died Saturday (Sept. 18, 1999) at Three Fountains Nursing Home. No service is planned.

She was born July 1, 1907, in County Sligo, Ireland. She grew up in Ireland and was educated by Catholic nuns in a convent.
On Sept. 10, 1944, in Wareham, Mass., she married Frederick Snyder, who survives.
Mrs. Snyder served with the British Intelligence Service in Bermuda during World War II. Later, she sold jewelry for the Gibbons Company. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1978.
She enjoyed young children and travel. She was especially attached to Bermuda, where she had lived for 10 years.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Patrick Cooke.

Frederick W. Barr III
Frederick William "Ted" Barr III, 59, of Ashland, died Thursday (Sept. 16, 1999) in Ashland Community Hospital. No service is planned.

He was born May 30, 1940, in Providence, R.I., a son of Eileen and Frederick Barr. He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a bachelor of fine arts degree in painting.
In 1968, Mr. Barr joined the Mill Valley, Calif., poster firm East Totem West. He moved to Ashland in 1972.
He played blues guitar at many Ashland clubs in the 1970s and 1980s and was known for his raspy voice and quick fingers.
Mr. Barr was an avid reader, could mimic accents and was a storyteller.
Survivors include a daughter, Amanda Barr, Tucson, Ariz.; and a brother, Philip, Providence, R.I.

Joseph Daniel Statler
Joseph Daniel Statler, 79, of Medford, died Monday (Sept. 20, 1999) at his home. A private service will be held later.
He was born March 24, 1920, in Chaffee, Mo. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1996 from Alameda, Calif.
Mr. Statler was an electrician.
He was a member of the Elks Club in San Leandro, Calif., and the Electricians Union in California.
Mr. Statler enjoyed helping people and fixing things.
Survivors include two sons, John, Medford, and Bill, San Luis Obispo, Calif.; a daughter, Carrie Besso, Alameda, Calif.; several brothers and sisters, all in Missouri; and numerous grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen.
