Miriam Kirley

The memorial service for Miriam Kirley will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the First Presbyterian Church in Phoenix. The Rev. John Braund will officiate.

Mrs. Kirley, 69, of Medford, died Monday (Oct. 25, 1999) at a foster home in Medford.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.

Richard `Rik' Orr

The graveside service for Richard "Rik" Orr will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. Veterans for Veterans will officiate.

Mr. Orr, 52, of Grants Pass, died Monday (Oct. 25, 1999) at his home.

Arrangements: Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, Grants Pass.

Bertha Mae Eisenberg

The funeral for Bertha Mae Eisenberg will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Shady Cove Assembly of God. Pastor Jack Bacon will officiate. A graveside service will follow at Trail Cemetery, Elk Creek Road, Trail.

Mrs. Eisenberg, 74, of Trail, died Sunday (Oct. 24, 1999) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation Hospice, 691 Murphy Road, Suite 236, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Bertha Mae McGonagle on Feb. 8, 1925, in Joplin, Mo., a daughter of Frank and Mabel McGonagle. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Joplin 70 years ago.

Mrs. Eisenberg was a waitress at various restaurants, most recently at the Rogue Elk Cafe in Trail, where she worked for several years. She retired in 1987.

She served in the Women's Army Corps during World War II.

Mrs. Eisenberg attended the Shady Cove Assembly of God.

She enjoyed crossword puzzles and camping.

Survivors include two sons, Kelly Ray, Talent, and Roy Carl, White City; four daughters, Glenna Lee Roxanne Andrews, Suzanne Rae Bacon, and Eileen Rose Gilbert, all Trail, and Gloria Gene Munson, Seattle; three brothers, Art McGonagle, Medford, Dave McGonagle, in Montana, and Louie McGonagle, Brookings; a sister, Hazel Shopp, Medford; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, Carl W. Eisenberg, in 1987; two brothers, Ralph McGonagle and Clarence McGonagle; and a sister, Vida Young.

Joan Elizabeth Dickey

Joan Elizabeth Dickey, 72, of Phoenix, died Thursday (Oct. 21, 1999) at her home. A private service was held. Inurnment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Providence Oncology Unit, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504, or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Joan Berreman on Feb. 27, 1927, in Moscow, Idaho. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1959.

On March 22, 1975, in Ashland, she married Julian A. Dickey, who died in 1997.

Mrs. Dickey was a crafter. She made Christmas statues.

She was a member of the Rogue Valley Country Club.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Cox, Medford, and Gary Cox, Eugene; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her first husband, William E. Cox, in 1974.

William Emmitt Stewart

The graveside service for William Emmitt Stewart will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Stewart, 80, of Medford, died Friday (Oct. 22, 1999) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous, Jackson County Central Office, 110 East Sixth St., Suite E, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born July 11, 1919, in Cullman, Ala.

On March 24, 1947, in Arizona, he married Elsie Mary Olivas, who survives. He moved here 20 years ago from California.

Mr. Stewart and his wife owned and operated Stewart Trucking in Los Angeles from 1955 to 1966.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He helped prepare the atomic bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki and was one of the first Americans to arrive in Nagasaki after the bomb was detonated.

Mr. Stewart was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1822, and was a sponsor of Alcoholics Anonymous.

He was a member of Sacred Hearth Catholic Church.

Mr. Stewart enjoyed fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Randall, Medford, and Michael and Rusty, both Poulsbo, Wash.; and a sister, Pauline Jones, Las Vegas.

Friends may pay their respects from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford.

Iva Ruth Garrow

The funeral for Iva Ruth Garrow will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford. Private inurnment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mrs. Garrow, 92, of Talent, died Saturday (Oct. 23, 1999) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Living Opportunities, P.O. Box 1105, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Iva Ruth Clark on March 29, 1907, in Longmont, Colo.

On Dec. 1, 1969, in Carson City, Nev., she married Lynwood A. Garrow, who died in 1989. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1976 from Chico, Calif.

Mrs. Garrow was a licensed vocational nurse for many years in San Jose, Calif. She retired from Paradise Hospital in Chico, Calif., in 1970.

She attended Bethel Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Harper, Gold Hill, and Shirley M. Rivas, Paradise, Calif.; a son, Clark Irwin Daniel, Redding, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Mary Crossland Gould

Mary Crossland Gould, 84, of Medford, died Sunday (Oct. 17, 1999) at Rogue Valley Manor Health Center. No service is planned. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rogue Valley Manor Health Center Fund, 1200 Miramar Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Mary Crossland on Sept. 13, 1915, in Tacoma, Wash.

On June 13, 1941, in Annapolis, Md., she married Navy Captain Richard K. Gould, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley five years ago from Salinas, Calif.

Mrs. Gould was a grade school teacher in the Cupertino School District in California until her retirement in 1972.

She was a member of the California Retired Teacher's Association.

She enjoyed birding, gardening and traveling.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Nancy G. Larned, Mission Viejo, Calif., and Janet G. Sparks, Grand Rapids, Mich.; a son, Jonathan R., Reno, Nev.; a sister, Opal Grey, Bellingham, Wash.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Hawley and Ruth O'Neill.
