John Francis Wood

John Francis Wood, 82, formerly of Ashland, died Sunday (Oct. 24, 1999) at Parkmont Nursing Home in Fremont, Calif. Private interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

He was born April 12, 1917, in San Francisco, a son of John F. and Anita May (Hubber) Wood.

On May 4, 1946, in San Francisco, he married Dorothy Ann Kerrigan, who survives.

Mr. Wood was an accountant in California. He moved to Ashland in 1993 after his retirement. He moved to Hayward, Calif., in 1998, and to Fremont, Calif., in 1999.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-46.

Mr. Wood was a member of Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Barbara J. Knudsen, Ashland, and Jean M. Loya, Fremont, Calif.; a sister, Barbara Moran, Santa Rosa, Calif.; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by a sister, Anita Mattson.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Barbara Ann Rausch

The funeral for Barbara Ann Rausch will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Jim Clifford of the Shepherd of the Valley Church in Central Point will officiate.

The memorial Mass for Barbara Ann Rausch will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Shepherd of the Valley Church, 600 Beebe Road, Central Point.

Mrs. Rauch, 58, of Medford, died Monday (Oct. 25, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Oregon Humane Society, 2910 Table Rock Road, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Barbara Rigo on Feb. 23, 1941, in Ashtabula, Ohio. She attended college for two years. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Florida in 1969.

On July 22, 1974, in Reno, Nev., she married Donald John Rausch, who survives.

Mrs. Rausch was a licensed practical nurse. She worked for Rogue Valley Medical Center for 24 years.

She spent most of her childhood in Saudi Arabia, and traveled extensively. She was an avid bowler.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Joanne Rogers, Central Point, and Julie Childress, White City; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank John and Mary Helen (Zeitz) Rigo.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. today at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel, Medford.

Samuel F. Kocher

Samuel Franklin Kocher, 62, of White City, died Monday (Oct. 25, 1999) at his home. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born March 16, 1937, in Benton, Pa.

On Feb. 14, 1986, in Vancouver, Wash., he married Dianna L. Patty, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1986.

Mr. Kocher was a truck driver.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Kocher enjoyed reading, watching television and woodworking.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Jennette Ayres, White City, and Beckey McDowell and Sandra Humpherys, both Lebanon, Mo.; a son, Clinton Ayres, White City; a sister, Louise Hessy, Bull Shoals, Ark.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Markum.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Inc., Medford.

William `Bill' K. Thomas

William "Bill" Kenneth Thomas, 54, of Medford, died Saturday (Oct. 23, 1999) at his home. The graveside service was held Tuesday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. Pastor Kevin Gowland of the First Church of the Nazarene in Medford officiated.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Employee Assistance Program, c/o West Coast Appliance, 6439 Crater Lake Highway, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Feb. 6, 1945, in Alameda, Calif., a son of William and Effie Thomas.

On April 11, 1984, in Anchorage, Alaska, he married Jayne Rienks, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley two years ago from Tucson, Ariz.

Mr. Thomas a salesman for West Coast Appliance in Medford for two years. He received many sales awards during his sales career.

He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

Mr. Thomas enjoyed the outdoors, and his dog, Tasha.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Jennifer Thomas, Medford, and JoAnn Snyder, Phoenix, Ariz.; four brothers, Tim Steppe, Medford, Tom Thomas, Central Point, and James and Dan Thomas, both Klamath Falls; and a sister, Connie Hamilton, Klamath Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Effie Thomas.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Kenneth Earl Nichols

Kenneth Earl Nichols, 89, of Central Point, died Monday (Oct. 25, 1999) in Gold Hill. No service is planned. Interment will be in Central Point Masonic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to to the Southern Oregon Humane Society, 2910 Table Rock Road, Medford, OR 97501, or the Alzheimer's Association, 33 N. Central Ave., Suite 330, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born March 14, 1910, in Central Point, a son of George Allen and Mattie Jane (Stallsworth) Nichols. He lived in the Rogue Valley most of his life.

On Oct. 11, 1972, in Reno, Nev., he married Winona Shoemaker, who survives.

Mr. Nichols was an electronics technician for the Federal Aviation Administration for 20 years, retiring in 1971. He also owned A1 Radio in Medford for a short time years ago.

He served in the U.S. Signal Corps from 1934-36, and in the U.S. Air Force in England from 1943-45 during World War II.

Mr. Nichols was a member of the Wireless Pioneers, and was a ham radio operator.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two stepsons, Derwin Large, Salem, and Ralph Large, Huachuca, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.

Nancy A. Weber

The graveside service for Nancy A. Weber will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. Pastor Stan Johnson will officiate.

Mrs. Weber, 70, of Central Point, died Sunday (Oct. 24, 1999) in Central Point.

Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association, 1130 W. 10th St., Medford, OR 97501, or the Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Nancy Roohr on Jan. 1, 1929, in Syracuse, N.Y.

On Nov. 8, 1952, in Denver, she married John "Jack" Weber, who died in 1996. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Sheridan, Ore. in 1955.

Mrs. Weber was a licensed practical nurse in local nursing homes.

She served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mrs. Weber did volunteer work with the local Boy Scouts, and enjoyed playing bingo.

Survivors include three sons, Robert, Brookings, Bill, La Mesa, Calif., and Steven, Portland; a daughter, Patty Ayers, Reno, Nev.; four brothers, Peter, George, Al and Charles Roohr; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.

Ruth Lohr Trost

Ruth Lohr Trost, 89, formerly of Ashland, died Oct. 19, 1999 in a retirement home in Escondido, Calif.

She was born May 29, 1910, in Milwaukee, Wis.

In 1938, in Milwaukee, she married Frederick J. Trost, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Trost was an art teacher at Ashland High School from 1956-72, retiring in 1972.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ashland.

Survivors include a son, Jeffrey, Carlsbad, Calif. She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Lohr.

Arrangements: Accu-Care Cremation Center, Carlsbad, Calif.
