Frances Emily Silver

The memorial service for Frances Emily Silver will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Trinity Episcopal Church in Ashland. The Rev. Douglas Spence will officiate.

Mrs. Silver, 95, of Medford, died Monday (Nov. 15, 1999) at a foster care home in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 44 N. Second St., Ashland, OR 97520, or the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1207, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born April 2, 1904, in Ashland, a daughter of Carroll E. and Florence (Trefren) Pratt, and a granddaughter of early settlers George W. and Mary Trefren and John H. and Emily Pratt.

She grew up in Ashland and graduated from Ashland High School in 1923 as valedictorian of her class. She received a degree in business in 1927 from Oregon State University, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.

In July 1943, in San Francisco, she married Oscar F. Silver, who died in 1974.

Mrs. Silver taught at Ashland High School during the 1930s. Beginning in 1941, she taught at what is now Southern Oregon University, retiring in 1951.

She was a member of the Fortnightly Study Club of Ashland, Chapter AC PEO, and Trinity Episcopal Church.

She enjoyed knitting and was known for her home-baked bread.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Wilkinson, Medford; a stepson, Oscar F. "Bud" Silver Jr., Ashland; a stepdaughter, Julia Smith, Phoenix; a brother, Louis Pratt, Klamath Falls; one granddaughter; four step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, who died in childhood; two brothers and two sisters.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.

Patricia J. Kuhlman

Patricia J. Kuhlman, 59, of Beaverton, formerly of Medford, died Tuesday (Nov. 16, 1999) in Beaverton. A private graveside service will be held today in Hillsboro.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Willamette Valley Humane Society, P.O. Box 13005, Salem, OR 97309, or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Oct. 30, 1940, in Havre, Mont.

Survivors include two daughters, Melinda Robertson, Medford, and Lisa Beddow, Corbett; a sister, Gayle Case, Aloha; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements: Autumn Funeral & Cremations, Tigard.

Charles Allen Meeker

The memorial service for Charles Allen Meeker will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Rogue River Seventh-day Adventist Church. Pastor Walter Mancia will officiate.

Mr. Meeker, 65, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (Nov. 16, 1999) at his home.

He was born Nov. 29, 1933, in Phoenix, Ariz.

On Dec. 22, 1972, in Bellflower, Calif., he married Juanita Lane, who survives. He lived in Garden Grove, Calif. He then moved to Boise, Idaho, where he lived for one year prior to moving to Grants Pass three years ago.

Mr. Meeker worked as a lather in commercial construction, retiring in 1995.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Meeker was a member of the Rogue River Seventh-day Adventist Church.

He enjoyed fishing and boating.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Randy Masterson, Grants Pass, Joe Lane, Joshua Tree, Calif., and Michael Lane, Fort Riley, Kan.; a daughter, Sandra Lee, Grants Pass; his mother and stepfather, Virginia and Lodie Lafley, Bellflower, Calif.; three brothers; two sisters; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Charles `Bus' Arrants

Charles "Bus" Kenneth Arrants, 85, of Grants Pass, died Nov. 11, 1999, at his home. No service is planned.

He was born Aug. 3, 1914, in Reedley, Calif. He moved to Grants Pass in 1943 from Selma, Calif.

On Sept. 8, 1946, in Merlin, he married Alma "Cleo" Doney, who survives.

Mr. Arrants worked for Puget Timber, which later became J.H. Baxter, from 1943-72.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and vegetable gardening.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Steven, Grants Pass; three daughters, Caryn Hayes, Grants Pass, and Nieva Bordeau and Agnes Arrants, both Bakersfield, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lavonne Arrants, in 1998; and by two grandsons.

Arrangements: Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, Grants Pass.

Rev. Kirk T. Snider

The funeral for Rev. Kirk Thomas Snider will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Central Valley Chapel. The Revs. Dale Adams and Stan Durham will officiate. The graveside service will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Rev. Snider, 83, of Medford, died Wednesday (Nov. 17, 1999) at Medford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Foothills Baptist Church, Building Fund, 2722 Springbrook, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born May 7, 1916, in Ged, La. He moved to the Rogue Valley in the early 1950s from Texas.

On May 23, 1954, in Medford, he married Matilda Davenport, who survives.

Rev. Snider was a minister at Foothills Baptist Church.

Survivors include a stepson, David Sinyard, Hope, Ark.; two stepdaughters, Daisy Hannah, Hope, Ark., and Edith Gowens, Hot Springs, Ark.; a brother, Link, Beaumont, Texas; two sisters, Louise Ballif, Atlanta, Ga., and Doris Baldwin, Woodville, Texas; three grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Bob.

Friends may pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.

Patrick Charles Pillon

The memorial service for Patrick Charles Pillon will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. The Rev. Joel Williams of New Life Assembly of God in Gold Hill will officiate. Inurnment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Pillon, 56, of Gold Hill, died Monday (Nov. 15, 1999) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Dubs Cancer Center, 691 Murphy Road, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born March 12, 1943, in Detroit.

On Feb. 3, 1998, in Medford, he married Theodora "Teddy" Lord, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley seven years ago from Nevada.

Mr. Pillon was a respiratory therapist for many years.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1961-63.

Mr. Pillon enjoyed music, hockey, yard sales and his cats.

He was a member of New Life Assembly of God, Gold Hill.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Shara Lutton, Gold Hill, and Kimberly Hernandez, Lake Elsinore, Calif.; a son, Timothy, in California; his parents, Warren D. and Josephine M. Ouellette Smith, Grants Pass; two sisters, Maryjo Smith, Grants

Pass, and Pamela Baron, Aloha; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Paul.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary.

Grace E. Freeland

The graveside service for Grace Eleanor Freeland will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Woodville Cemetery in Rogue River.

Mrs. Freeland, 85, of Reno, Nev., formerly of Medford, died Sunday (Nov. 14, 1999) in Reno.

She was born Nov. 10, 1914, in Portland, a daughter of Loring and Eleanor Whiteker. She moved to the Rogue Valley as a child, and lived in Medford, Grants Pass, Klamath Falls and Bandon.

In 1931, she married Christian Richert, who died in 1964. In 1942, she married Perry Provost, who died in 1996. In 1984, she married David Freeland, who died in 1989.

Mrs. Freeland was a clerical worker at Montgomery Wards. She was retired.

She enjoyed arts, crafts and playing bingo.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Hoffman, Klamath Falls; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. A son, Christian Richert Jr., died in 1991.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.
