Buren C. `Sandy' Herod
Buren C. "Sandy" Herod, 78, of Medford, died Wednesday (Nov. 10, 1999) at Hearthstone. A private service is planned. Inurnment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
He was born March 29, 1921, in Chicago.
On Dec. 31, 1944, in Elgin, Ill., he married Alice Holliday, who died in 1998. He moved to the Rogue Valley five years ago from Mount Prospect, Ill.
Mr. Herod was a geologist and editor at "Pit & Quarry" and "Modern Concrete" publications from 1955 until his retirement in 1990.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a submarine hunter pilot. When his plane crashed in the Florida Keys, 11 crew members died, but he was able to save one crew member.
Mr. Herod was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Alcoholics Anonymous and the Experimental Aircraft Association.
He enjoyed woodworking and planes.
Survivors include four sons, Tom, Eagle Point, Jim, Selma, Bud, Barrington, Ill., and Mike, Mystic, Conn.; a brother, Gary, Glendale, Calif.; and three grandchildren. A sister, Norma Voltz, died in 1995.

Gerald G. McCollum
The memorial service for Gerald George McCollum will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Phoenix Church of Christ. Pastor David Humphreys will officiate. A private graveside service will be held in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mr. McCollum, 72, of Phoenix, died Wednesday (Nov. 10, 1999) at his home.

He was born Sept. 2, 1927, in Kalispell, Mont. He lived in the Rogue Valley most of his life.
Mr. McCollum was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed gardening, painting and working with ceramics and wood.
Survivors include a brother, Dr. John McCollum, Ashland; and two sisters, Lucile Lowman and Carol Clark, both Medford.

Frank Stander
The funeral for Frank Benjamine Stander will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Conger Morris Funeral Chapel in Medford. The Rev. William Dillard of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate. Interment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Mr. Stander, 82, of Medford, died Friday (Nov. 12, 1999) at his home.

He was born July 19, 1917 in Wabash, Neb.
On July 15, 1954 in Denver, Colo., he married Marie Crane who died in 1983. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1975 from Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Mr. Stander was an inspector for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 30 years.
During World War II, he was a chief pharmacy mate in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Stander enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, camping and carpentry.
Survivors include a son, Ronald, Omaha, Neb.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Conger Morris Funeral Directors.
Loy David Conrad
Loy David Conrad, 57, of Medford, died Thursday (Nov. 11, 1999) at his home. A private service is planned.

He was born June 6, 1942, in Long Beach, Calif. He moved to the Rogue Valley 16 years ago from Washington state.
On September 16, 1984, at Lake of the Woods, he married Shirley Tucker, who survives.
Mr. Conrad worked for the U.S. Forest Service in fire management for 30 years, until his retirement in 1989.
During the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He enjoyed playing golf and football.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Brandi Johnson, Medford, and Shonni Hanks, Lakeview; a son, Gregory Gamble, Medford; his father, Loy H. Conrad; and one grandson. His mother, Marianne Conrad, died in 1993.
Wilber Earl Harrison
The graveside service for Wilbur Earl Harrison will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Woodville Cemetery in Rogue River.
Mr. Harrison, 83, of Rogue River, died Friday (Nov. 12, 1999) at a foster care facility in Springfield.
He was born Nov. 28, 1915, in Fillmore, Calif. a son of John and Tillie Harrison.
On June 20, 1935, in Grass Valley, Calif., he married Ruanna J. Harris, who survives.
For several years he was a cinnabar miner in Lake County, Calif.
During World War II, he served in the U.S Navy in the Pacific Theater.
He began his career in auto mechanics in 1945 with Sullivan and Crow Trucking in Redding and worked as a heavy-duty mechanic there until 1961. In 1963 he left Redding and moved to Rogue River, where he continued mechanics work with the Jackson County Roads Department.
He enjoyed collecting guns.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, David, Rogue River, Wesley, Grants Pass, Duane, Glendale, and Steven James, Redding, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Zandra Stockton
The memorial service for Zandra Marie Elena Stockton will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday at Hope Christian Church in Central Point. Darold Hutfell will officiate.
Ms. Stockton, 58, of Central Point, died Thursday (Nov. 11, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 2, 1941 in Eugene. She moved to the Rogue Valley 30 years ago from Seneca.
Ms. Stockton, a homemaker, enjoyed fishing, yard sales, window-shopping and driving through the countryside.
Survivors include four sons, Scott Elwess, Central Point, and Frank D. Elwess, Raymond Elwess and Tony Elwess, all of Portland; a daughter, Angela Richard, Portland; a brother, Steven Zack, Harlan, Iowa; a sister, Barbara Pinney, Central Point; and 13 grandchildren.

Dora R. Childreth
Dora Rogers Childreth, 85, of Phoenix, died Saturday (Nov. 13, 1999) at her home.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Hillcrest Mortuary.
