Orpha Hartzell-Phillips
Orpha V. Hartzell-Phillips, 85, of Klamath Falls, formerly of Medford, died Friday (Nov. 19, 1999) in Klamath Falls. A private service was held Nov. 21, in Whittier, Calif. Inurnment was in Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier. A memorial service will be held in Medford at at later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
She was born Oct. 24, 1914, in Middletown, Ohio, a daughter of Thomas and Edna (McIlvain) Grubbs. She moved to Whittier, Calif., in 1948, and to Medford in 1971. In 1976, she moved to Hemet, Calif.
On May 3, 1986, in Las Vegas, she married Delmar Phillips, who survives. She returned to Medford in 1989.
Mrs. Hartzell-Phillips worked as a nurse at various physician's offices and hospitals.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Order of the Amaranth.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Gail Hudspeth, Klamath Falls; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leonard Hartzell; and a son, Gary Hartzell.

Charles W. Hickman
The cryptside service for Charles William Hickman will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in East Lawn/Sierra Hills Memorial Park, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento, Calif. Dr. Arnold Lewis will officiate.
Mr. Hickman, 82, of Medford, died Saturday (Nov. 20, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
He was born April 27, 1917, in Albany.
On July 7, 1956, in Sacramento, Calif., he married Emelene M. Stearns, who died in 1994. He lived in Marysville, Calif., from 1956-80. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1980.
Mr. Hickman was an assistant manager for Montgomery Wards. He also worked as a parts salesman for Middleton Implement Company in Marysville, Calif.
He was a member of the Methodist Church in Yuba City, Calif., and the Modern Woodsmen and the Moose Lodge.
Mr. Hickman enjoyed RVing, photography and television.
Survivors include three sons, Charles F. Stearns and Robert E. Stearns, both Medford, and Charles R. Hickman, Owego, N.Y.; a daughter, Patricia French, Auburn, Calif.; a sister, Julia Dempster, Pinole, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Victor and David Hickman.

Barbara Ann Kelly
The graveside service for Barbara Ann Kelly will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. The Rev. Gregory Moys of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Grants Pass will officiate.
Mrs. Kelly, 65, of Central Point, died Monday (Nov. 22, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church, 600 Beebe Road, Central Point, OR 97502.
She was born Barbara Ann Pierson on July 4, 1934, in Detroit. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1964 from Southern California.
Mrs. Kelly was a postal clerk for the Medford Post Office and most recently, the Central Point Post Office.
She volunteered at Providence Medford Medical Center.
She was a member of the Rogue River Catholic Church and the Rogue Valley Road Riders Motorcycle Club.
She had a pilot's license, and enjoyed hunting and golf.
Survivors include five daughters, Pat Roberts, Eagle Point, Eva Dumanowski, Medford, Lisa Kelley, Central Point, Linda Manderfeld, Shady Cove, and Nancy Copeland, Durant, Okla.; two sons, Thomas J., in Utah, and Charles, Redding, Calif.; three brothers, Walter Pierson, Medford, Richard Pierson, Grants Pass, and Thomas Pierson, Azusa, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Patrick Kelly, in 1996.

Roberto J. Apodaca Jr.
Roberto Jesus Apodaca Jr., 54, of Gold Hill, died Nov. 16, 1999, at his home. No service is planned.
He was born Aug. 4, 1945, in Sonora, Mexico. He moved to the Rogue Valley from San Diego in 1994.
Mr. Apodaca was a self-employed audio-video technician.
He enjoyed dancing, listening to music and playing pool.
Survivors include his companion, Sharon Dulany, Gold Hill; his mother, Eloisa Gonzalz, in Arizona; two brothers, Manuel and Xaviar; and a sister, Lydia Apodaca. He was preceded in death by his father, Roberto Apodaca Sr., in 1989.

Theodora M. Shoesmith
Theodora Mahan Shoesmith, 90, of Medford, died Friday (Nov. 19, 1999) at Rogue Valley Manor. The memorial service will be in Oxnard, Calif.

She was born Sept. 23, 1909, in Manhattan, Nev., a daughter of Miles and Donnie (Eckles) Mahan. She grew up in Camarillo, Calif. She received a degree in education from San Diego State College in 1932.
On Aug. 6, 1944, she married Carl Shoesmith, who died in 1971.
Mrs. Shoesmith's career in education spanned 34 years. She was a teacher and a principal, and retired in 1974 as director of elementary education of Ventura County, Calif. She moved to Oregon in 1991.
She was active in Soroptimist International.
Mrs. Shoesmith enjoyed international travel and documented her travels with photographs.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Mandell, Ashland; and a son, Steven, Oxnard, Calif.

Shirley G. Langstaff
The graveside service for Shirley G. Langstaff was held Saturday (Nov. 6, 1999) at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford. The Rev. Charles Symmank officiated.
Mrs. Langstaff, 78, of Harrison, Ark., and formerly of Medford, died Monday (Nov. 1, 1999) at her home.
She was born Shirley Korterud Nov. 30, 1920, in Chicago, Ill. On Sept. 1, 1941, in Chicago, she married Conrad W. Langstaff, who died in 1998.
Mrs. Langstaff had resided in the Rogue Valley for 12 years after the couple moved from Oakland, Calif., before moving to Arkansas a year ago.
She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Medford.
Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey Allan, Harrison, Ark., and Glen Regan, Suisun, Calif.; and a daughter, Laura Linda MacGregor, Chester, Calif.
Robert Leroy Grant
Robert Leroy Grant, 62, of Trail, died Thursday (Nov. 4, 1999) at his home. A private service will be held Monday at Trail Christian Fellowship. Chaplain Paul Hagedorn, of Providence Medford Medical Center, will officiate.

He was born July 11, 1937, in Oceanside, N.Y. He grew up and attended school in New York before moving to California, where he lived for over 30 years.
On Aug. 1, 1959, in Long Island, N.Y., he married Connie Valentino, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley five years ago from California.
Mr. Grant owned and operated Cascade Construction in Trail.
He attended Trail Christian Fellowship.
Mr. Grant enjoyed fishing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Maryellen Grant, Medford; a son, Robert L. Jr., Corona, Calif.; a sister, Diane Verge, Seattle; and three granddaughters. A brother, William, preceded him in death.
