Mary Houston Bell
Mary Houston Bell, 82, of Medford died Thursday (Nov. 25, 1999) at the Rogue Valley Manor. No service is planned.

She was born Mary Houston Finlayson on Sept. 19, 1917, in San Francisco. She moved to the Rogue Valley three years ago from Santa Rosa, Calif.
She was stationed at Fort Shafter in Hawaii during World War II, in 1942, with the Women's Air Raid Defense.
Ms. Bell was employed by United Airlines, Pan American Airlines and retired from TWA in Honolulu.
She was a member of the Rogue Valley Manor Golf Club. She enjoyed traveling, volunteer work, reading and golf.
She is survived by a brother, Robert Finlayson, San Antonio, Tex.

Milton Aaron Lanier
The graveside service for Milton Aaron Lanier will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Lanier, 87, of Central Point, died Monday (Dec. 6, 1999) in Central Point.
He was born Aug. 26, 1912, in Killeen, Texas. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1992 from Riverside, Calif.
On Aug. 26, 1935, in Lampesas County, Texas, he married Gladyes Lavern Wells, who died in 1963.
Mr. Lanier was an owner/operator of Lanier Trucking, in Calif.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, animals and horseback riding.
Survivors include two sons, Benny, Jacksonville, and Bruce, Lodi, Calif.; three daughters, Dorothy Steinhoefel, Central Point, Billie Redenbaugh, Upland, Calif., and Betty Thomas, Fontana, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Brian; two brothers, Cliff and Jack; a sister, Vera Benke; and a grandson.

Dale Wayne Rogers
Dale Wayne Rogers, 42, of Antioch, Calif., formerly of Medford, died Friday (Dec. 3, 1999) in Moraga, Calif. A service is planned in Tulare, Calif.
He was born Dec. 30, 1956, in Tulare. He lived in Medford for 10 years prior to moving to Antioch, Calif., two years ago.
Mr. Rogers was a heavy equipment operator for W.T. Construction in Brentwood, Calif.
He enjoyed rafting, hiking, snow skiing and the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife, Debi Rogers, Antioch; a daughter, Lisa, Fresno, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Jasmine Burns, Antioch; two stepsons, Jason Haynes and Levi Haynes, both of Antioch; his mother, Donna Mello, Maglia, Calif.; his father, Paul Rogers of Montana; three sisters, Diana Lee, Salinas, Calif.; Cyndi Mello, Fresno, and Mandy Rogers, Santa Cruz, Calif., three brothers, Michael and Dean, both of Antioch, and Joseph Mello, Hanford, Calif.

Thelma Jo Cantle
Thelma Jo Cantle, 73, of Grants Pass, died Friday (Dec. 3, 1999) at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. A private memorial service is planned.

She was born Thelma Jo Bayless on Jan. 4, 1926, in Wheaton, Mo., a daughter of Vern and Marjorie Bayless.
Mrs. Cantle received an undergraduate degree from Long Beach, Calif., State College and a master of science degree from what is now Southern Oregon University in Ashland. She also received an administrative certificate from the University of Oregon.
She was a teacher of English and drama at Jordan High School in Long Beach, and Avalon High School on Santa Catalina Island, Calif.
From 1968 until her retirement in 1984, she worked in the Grants Pass School District -- beginning as a teacher at South Middle School, where she later retired as principal.
During her four years on the staff of Grants Pass High School, she was a counselor, dean of girls and vice principal.
Prior to moving to Grants Pass, she was an actress and director.
Mrs. Cantle enjoyed reading, gardening, theater arts and foreign travel.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Curtis Harestad, Gold Hill, and Gregory Allen Harestad, Portland; a daughter, Dominique Whittaker, Grants Pass; a brother, Richard Bayless, Portland; her companion, Bob Shapiro, Grants Pass; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Sydney Cantle.

Eleanor Davis
Eleanor Davis, 89, of Medford died Sunday (Dec. 5, 1999) at her home. No service is planned.
She was born Eleanor Kellar on June 16, 1910, in Covina, Calif., a daughter of George and Emma (Morton) Kellar. She moved to the Rogue Valley on March 1, 1998.
Mrs. Davis attended a year of college and worked as a legal stenographer for the state of California for 53 years, retiring in 1974.
She enjoyed reading and music.
Mrs. Davis was a member of the Daughters of the Golden West.
Survivors include: two daughters, Kathryn Bertlin, Seiad Valley, Calif., and Caryl Washburn, Denton, Texas; two sons, Larry Davis, Los Gatos, Calif., and James Walmsley, Santa Rosa, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Alyce L. Bowman
Alyce L. Bowman, 89, of Medford, died Tuesday (Nov. 30, 1999) in Medford. No service is planned.

She was born Alyce L. Oleson on Dec. 29, 1909, in Aurora, Ill.
On Sept. 3, 1949, in Reno, Nev., she married David Bowman, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley 30 years ago from Walnut Creek, Calif.
Mrs. Bowman served in the U.S. Navy as a second lieutenant.
She worked as a nurse and physical therapist for veterans' hospitals in California, Arizona and Oregon.
She enjoyed traveling, bird watching, square dancing and canoeing.
Mrs. Bowman was a member of the Lutheran church and rock and rose clubs.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include nieces Molly Hubbard, Batavia, Ill., and Virginia Egan, Sandwich, Ill. She was preceded in death by eight siblings.

Bev Reneau
Bev Reneau, 66, of Death Valley, Calif., and formerly of the Rogue Valley, died Sunday (Dec. 5, 1999) in Death Valley, Calif. A celebration of life service is planned on her birthday in July at the Jacksonville Cemetery.

She was born July 22, 1933, in Los Angeles. She lived in the Rogue Valley for 40 years, including Jacksonville, Central Point and Medford.
Mrs. Reneau worked as a hairdresser in Los Angeles. She was employed at the Furnace Creek Golf Pro Shop in Death Valley National Park.
She was a member of the Sweet Adelines.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald, Death Valley, Calif.; three sons, Les Gutches, Jacksonville, Kent Gutches, Central Point, and Kelly Gutches, Burns; three daughters, Shelly Gutches, Death Valley, Calif., Ann Gutches, Bothell, Wash., and Dawn Allen, Eagle, Idaho,; a brother, Don Moody, Riley, in Harney County; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
