Roy Stalder
1926-2003
Roy John Stalder, of Drain, died Oct. 2 at the age of 76 of heart failure.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove.
A lifelong resident of the area, Stalder was born in Cottage Grove Dec. 8, 1926, to John and Laura (Davisson) Stalder.
He married Donna Addington in Cottage Grove Aug. 27, 1949.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946.
He worked for Bohemia Logging and as a logging-truck driver.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting and traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; two sons, Danny Stalder and his wife, Shirley, of Drain and Donald Stalder of Yoncalla; a brother, Frank Stalder and his wife, Charlene, of Cottage Grove; two sisters, Freda Stalder of Cottage Grove and Nellie and her husband, Melvin Allen, of Crescent; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Maxine Spanheimer
1918-2003
Maxine Spanheimer, 84, of Cottage Grove died Sept. 9 at Coast Fork Nursing Center in Grants Pass.
She was born Sept. 27, 1918, in Medford to Frank and Addie Rhoades.
She was a homemaker and lived in Grants Pass until 1966 when she moved to Lebanon.
In 1986, she moved to Cottage Grove.
She enjoyed playing bingo, reading novels, her dogs and cats and being with her grandkids and family.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Emil Jeffcoat and Robert Spanheimer.
Survivors include her son, Donald L. Jeffcoat of Federal Way, Wash.; her daughter, Betty Ann Wilson of Culp Creek; two sisters, Bernice Shier of Medford and Marjorie Griffin of Castle Rock, Wash.; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Hull and Hull Funeral Directors in Grants Pass were in charge of arrangements.
A graveside service was held at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens Sept. 18.
Mark Lasater
1951-2003
Mark Littleton Lasater died Nov. 9, 2003, at the age of 52 from an aneurysm.
He was born on June 13, 1951, in San Diego, Calif., to Richard and Wanda Lasater.
Lasater grew up in Cottage Grove and graduated from South Eugene High School in 1969.
He received his associate's degree in accounting and in culinary arts from Lane Community College.
He married Caroline Maltsberger Lasater on July 6, 2001, in Eugene.
He also lived in Springfield.
After college he worked for Ascot Distributors for six years.
He worked for Weyerhaeuser Co. for 20 years and Harry & David in customer service in Eugene for two years.
He began working for Accutel two years ago.
He was a collector of Rock ‘n' Roll memorabilia.
He enjoyed concerts and music.
He loved being a grandpa, drives in the country, waterfalls, camping and traveling.
He is survived by his wife; mother, Wanda Lasater of Springfield; daughters, Jennifer McCown of Eugene and Tracey Maltsberger of Portland; son, Kyle Lasater of Eugene; sister, Jana Garza, of Springfield; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Friday at Buell Funeral Chapel in Eugene.

Pearl Hilbrand
1934-2003
Pearl Hilbrand, a 30-year resident of Cottage Grove, died Nov. 10, 2003, at the age of 69 from cancer.
She was born on Jan. 24, 1934, to Hal and Marie Reed in Brantwood, Wis.
She graduated from Tomahawk High School in Wisconsin.
She grew up and lived many years in the Midwest before moving to Cottage Grove in 1973.
She married Clarence Hilbrand on June 28, 1952, in Tomahawk, Wis.
She was a homemaker and bookkeeper.
She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed games and puzzles.
She was a member of South Lane Christian Center.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Sue Hilbrand of Brantwood, Wis., and Dennis and Elizabeth Hilbrand of Black Mountain, N.C.; daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Kelly Kraft of Irrigon, Dawn and Alan Jones of Woodburn, Donna and John Lamb of Dunedin, Fla., And Debbie and Mark Phillips of Cottage Grove; son, Dale Hilbrand of Cottage Grove; brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert and Lina Reed of Tomahawk, Wis., and David and Judy Reed of Zolfo Springs, Fla.; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Paul Pearson of San Jose, Calif.; and grandchildren, James, William, Rachael, Philip and Anne.
A visitation was held Nov. 16 and a service Nov. 17 at South Lane Christian Center in Cottage Grove.
A private interment was at Fir Grove Cemetery.
Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Aileen Rickard
1910-2003 Aileen Barker Rickard, a 60-year-resident of Cottage Grove, died Nov. 14, 2003, at the age of 93 from age-related causes.
