John Paul Thirkell

John Paul Thirkell, 55, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday (Dec. 29, 1999) at his home. A private service will be held.

He was born Nov. 5, 1944, in Lynn, Mass., a son of Joseph H. and Frances Thirkell. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1991, from Encinitas, Calif.

Mr. Thirkell was a silversmith.

He enjoyed flying, motorcycling and traveling.

Survivors, include a son, Ian P., Jacksonville,; a daughter, Lori M. Kay, Madison, Wis.; his mother, Frances Keenan, Lynnfield, Mass.; a sister, Gail Mann, Lynn, Mass.; and one grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph H., who died in 1969.

Florence Hemley Schneider

Florence Hemley Schneider, 85, of Ashland, died Wednesday (Dec. 29, 1999) at her home.

A celebration of her life is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, at the Schneider Museum of Art in Ashland.

Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Oregon University Scholarship Fund, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland, OR 97520.

She was born May 18, 1914, in Brooklyn, N.Y. On Dec. 15, 1937, she married William Schneider, who died in 1996.

Mrs. Schneider and her husband moved to the Rogue Valley in May 1976 from Tuscon, Ariz. She taught sociology and women's studies at Southern Oregon University. She enjoyed traveling and was an avid supporter of the arts.

She is survived by daughter Patty Moore of Eugene; son Burt Schneider of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; brother Eugene Hemley of New York; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers.

Raymond Zarosinski

The memorial mass for Raymond Francis "Ray" Zarosinski will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Klamath Falls. Rosary will precede the mass at 9:40 a.m. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery; the Rev. Charles V. Dreisbach will officiate.

Mr. Zarosinski died Wednesday (Dec. 29, 1999) at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Junior Golf Association, in care of the Juniper Golf Club, 139 S.E. Sisters, Redmond, OR 97756; or to St. Francis of Assisi Building Fund, 409 N.E. Franklin, Bend, OR 97701.

He was born on May 3, 1927 in Fried, N.D. On June 23, 1947, in Klamath Falls, he married Mille Motschenbacher, who survives.

Mr. Zarosinski moved to Klamath Falls as a child and attended schools there. He served as a fireman first class in the U.S. Navy during World War II and received the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign medal and the World War II Victory medal.

After his discharge from the Navy, he returned to Klamath Falls and a job at Ashley Chevrolet. Later, he worked for Crater Lake Dairy and Cascade Industrial Supply. In 1976, Mr. Zarosinski started Zarosinski Industries, a logging and mill supply business. He was a member of the Klamath Falls Elks Lodge.

Mr. Zarosinski enjoyed tinkering with things, dancing, watching his children and grandchildren play sports and going on trips to Reno. Family members fondly recall his sense of humor.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Zarosinski is survived by Two daughters, Teresa "TZ" Fargason and Judy Mehlmauer of Medford; two sons, Douglas of Lafayette, La., and Joe of Bend; four brothers, Joe and Ed of Klamath Falls, Don of Portland and Lou of Oregon City; a sister, Anastasia Morrison of Klamath Falls; five grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Donny Zarosinski.

Friends may pay their respects from noon to 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.

Robert Raymond Denny

The memorial service for Robert Raymond Denny, 74, of White City, will be at 1:30 p.m. today in the Upper Rogue United Methodist Church, 18977 Highway 62, Shady Cove. Pastor Jack Cornell will officiate.

Mr. Denny died Tuesday (Dec. 28, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Upper Rogue United Methodist Church, 18977 Highway 62, Shady Cove, OR 97539.

He was born Feb. 28, 1925, in Nutley, N.J.

On June 3, 1946, in Nutley, he married Jane Perkins, who survives.

The couple moved to the Rogue Valley from Oxnard, Calif., in 1991.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Denny was an electronics engineer at Point Magu Naval Base in Oxnard, for 46 years. He retired in 1990.

He attended the Upper Rogue United Methodist Church, Shady Cove.

Mr. Denny enjoyed fishing, and was an amateur photographer.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Brett, Las Vegas, and Glenn, Philadelphia; four daughters, Lois Denny, Medford, Sandy Sue McClure, Pensacola, Fla., Roberta Copeland, Grenada, Calif., and Jennifer Kingsley, Corvallis; a sister, Mary Flockhart, Lincroft, N.J.; 13 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Lena Ruth Aldrich

The cryptside service for Lena Ruth Aldrich will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Memory Gardens Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Mrs. Aldrich, 94, of Medford, died Thursday (Dec. 30, 1999) at her home.

She was born Lena Kirkland on Nov. 23, 1905, in Montana.

She moved to the Rogue Valley 20 years ago from Spokane, Wash.

Mrs. Aldrich was a child care provider in California.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jacksonville Ward.

Mrs. Aldrich also was a member of the Gold Star Mothers, having lost a son in Iwo Jima during World War II.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and gardening.

Survivors include a son, Leroy, in New Mexico; and a sister, Ethel DeSimone, Central Point.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Del Aldrich, a son, two sisters, and two grandchildren.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Alvin Larry Sidlow

A gathering of the friends of Alvin Larry Sidlow will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in the home of Alvin Sidlow, 7875 Division Road, White City.

Mr. Sidlow, 48, of White City, died Wednesday (Dec. 29, 1999) at his home.

He was born May 24, 1951, a son of Herbert and Bernice Sidlow.

He moved to the Rogue Valley from Philadelphia in 1988.

Mr. Sidlow was a counselor for Alcoholics Anonymous.

During the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Army.

He enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include a sister, Anita Sidlow. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Robert Lee McQuain

The funeral for Robert Lee McQuain will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Foots Creek Chapel in Gold Hill. Pastor Jeff Newman of Calvary Church, in Grants Pass, will officiate.

Interment will be in Woodville Cemetery, Rogue River.

Mr. McQuain, 65, of Rogue River, died Sunday (Dec. 26, 1999) at Three Rivers Community Hospital, Washington Campus.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rogue River Senior Center, 132 Broadway, Rogue River, OR 97537, or the American Heart Association, 10 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born June 12, 1934, in Elkins, W.Va.

On Aug. 8, 1961, in Mexico, he married Maydale Smith, who survives.

After graduation from Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia, Mr. McQuain was a military instructor at Fort Knox, Ky., and Fort Mead, Md.

In the 1960s he was a character actor, and appeared in episodes of the TV shows "Gunsmoke," "Perry Mason," "The Andy Griffith Show." He also had roles in Disney movies.

In 1964, he had his own puppeteer show, "Hobnob with Bob," a UHF television children's show.

Later, he worked for Consolidated Film Laboratories in Hollywood.

Mr. McQuain moved to Rogue River 23 years ago and began a career in real estate. He owned McQuain and Co. in Grants Pass and Rogue River Realty in Rogue River.

He also was a financial planner for Financial Network Investment Corp. for a few years. For the last two years he worked for ReMax Ideal Properties in Medford.

He was a volunteer at Rogue River Senior Center and for an interim period served as director.

Mr. McQuain was a lifelong learner and avid reader. He enjoyed bird hunting, skeet shooting, horses and golf.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Michelle McQuain and Paulette Alexandria, both Rogue River; two sons, David McQuain, Grants Pass, and Roger Cassotti, Pearl City, Hawaii; and six grandchildren.
