Ellsworth K. Kelly
The graveside service for Ellsworth K. Kelly, D.D.S., will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Dr. Kelly, 89, of Medford, died Saturday (Jan. 8, 2000) at his home.

Box 1207, Medford, OR 97501.He was born July 20, 1910, in San Francisco. He attended Lick-Wilmerding High School in San Francisco, and received his D.D.S. degree from the University of California School of Dentistry in 1934.
On Sept. 5, 1931, in Santa Cruz, Calif., he married Mary Elizabeth Graves, who survives.
Dr. Kelly served in the Army Dental Corps for 25 years. During World War II, he was with the 197th General Hospital in England, France and Germany.
After the war, he did postgraduate work in prosthodontics at Tufts University Dental School in Boston and the University of Pennsylvania Dental School and was certified by the American Board of Prosthodontics in 1949.
Dr. Kelly served in Japan from 1954 to 1957, where he was a founding member of the American Stomatological Society of Japan. He was awarded a certificate by the Japan Dental Association for contributing to the development of dentistry in Japan.
He retired from the Army as a colonel in 1961, in Washington, D.C., where he was chief of Dental Service at Walter Reed General Hospital and chairman of the Prosthodontic Section at the Army Institute of Research. Upon retirement, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal.
For the next 17 years, Dr. Kelly was on the faculty of the University of California School of Dentistry in San Francisco. He published more than 30 papers in professional journals, was awarded teaching honors, selected as the graduation speaker by the class of 1975, and received the Excellence in Teaching Award in 1974 by the Associated Dental Students. In 1984 he was awarded the Medal of Honor and the title Alumnus Distinctissimus by the U.C. Dental Alumni Association.
Dr. Kelly served as a consultant to several graduate training programs at federal hospitals including Letterman General Hospital, San Francisco Veterans Administration Hospital, Travis Air Base Hospital, and Tripler Army Hospital in Honolulu.
He retired from teaching in 1977 as professor of restorative dentistry and chairman of the Division of Removable Prosthodontics. Upon retirement, he was granted the title of professor emeritus. He retired to Santa Rosa, Calif., and practiced there for a few years specializing in removable and maxillo-facial prosthodontics until poor health caused his retirement after 50 years of dentistry.
Dr. Kelly was a life member of the California State Dental Association, the American Prosthodontic Society, and the Pacific Coast Society of Prosthodontists, where he served as president in 1977, and as secretary-treasurer for several years. He was a life fellow of the American College of Dentists and a charter fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Dr. Russell K., Kewelona, British Columbia; and a daughter, Leslie Oliver, Stockton, Calif.

Ira Dell `Tex' Hardin
The memorial service for Ira Dell "Tex" Hardin will be at 11:30 a.m. today in Evans Valley Bible Church in Rogue River. Pastor Mike Fieguth will officiate. Private interment will be in Woodville Cemetery.
Mr. Hardin, 86, of Rogue River, died Saturday (Jan. 8, 2000) at his daughter's home in Central Point.

He was born Aug. 20, 1913, in Grass Valley, Ore. He attended Dairy and Ashland Schools. He lived in the Rogue Valley for 67 years, and had been a Rogue River resident since 1960.
On Nov. 7, 1936, in Grants Pass, he married Lelah "Babe" Marian Baker, who survives.
Mr. Hardin was a contract logger for many years. In 1942, he cleared the land for the building of the Medford Airport.
He was a lifetime charter member of Evans Valley Bible Church.
Mr. Hardin enjoyed playing the harmonica, hunting, and outdoor activities. He still enjoyed driving a D-7 cat at 86 years of age.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, LaVena Hess, Central Point, and Molly Ramsey, White City; a son, Frank, Eagle Point; a sister, Carley Tyre, Marietta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Rollie and Cecil; a sister, Pauline; and a granddaughter.

Raymond E. Schmidt
The funeral for Raymond E. Schmidt will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.
Mr. Schmidt, 35, of Ashland, died Saturday (Jan. 8, 2000) at his home.

He was born Sept. 15, 1964, in Chicago, a son of Joseph William and Joyce (Spencer) Schmidt. His family moved to Ashland in 1980.
Mr. Schmidt worked at Ashland Bakery Cafe, Mount Ashland Ski Resort and Lake of the Woods Resort.
He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed skiing, mountain biking, hiking and hunting.
Survivors include his parents, Joseph and Joyce Schmidt, Ashland; two brothers, Joseph, Ashland, and John, Crescent City, Calif.; two sisters, Lee Schmidt, Ashland, and Susan Teemer, Seattle; and his grandmother, Mabel Spencer, Amboy, Ill.
Friends may pay their respects from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday in Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.
Robert Henry Dietrich
Robert Henry Dietrich, 86, of Newport Beach and Costa Mesa, Calif., formerly of Medford, died Dec. 17, 1999, at his home in Costa Mesa, Calif. Interment was handled by the Neptune Society aboard the Neptune cruiser on the Pacific Ocean on Jan. 11.

He was born April 2, 1913, in Plentywood, Mont. In 1920, his family moved to Medford, where he attended schools and was a member of the Methodist Church.
Mr. Dietrich was a motorcycle policeman for the El Segundo Police Department in California for 25 years, retiring in 1954. After retirement, his interest was in real estate in Palm Springs and Newport Beach.
During World War II, he was a corporal in the 2114th Squadron of the Army Air Force.
Mr. Dietrich was a member of the Palm Springs Country Club.
He enjoyed traveling and dancing.
Survivors include a brother, Mike, Medford. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Leona Wenzel and Viola Hansen; and a brother, Benjamin Dietrich, who died in World War II.

Reba Seltzer
Reba Seltzer, 86, of Medford, died Wednesday (Jan. 5, 2000) at her home. Interment was held Friday, Jan. 7, in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

She was born March 8, 1913, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, into a large extended family involved in Yiddish musical theater.
Mrs. Seltzer was a legal secretary in Detroit, Los Angeles and San Jose, Calif.
She moved to San Jose in 1958, where she was active in Hadassah and Sisterhood at Temple Emanu-El. After moving to Medford in 1992, she belonged to Temple Emek Shalom, Ashland.
Survivors include a daughter, Selene Seltzer, Mount Shasta, Calif.; and a sister, Esther Goldstein, Deerfield Beach, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Louis Seltzer, in 1995.

Fritz Martin
The funeral for Fritz Martin will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Central Valley Chapel. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Martin, 42, of Medford, died Friday (Jan. 7, 2000) at his home.

He was born Oct. 16, 1957, in Las Vegas. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1970.
Mr. Martin was a welder for Alstom USA Inc. Sales in White City.
A motorcycle enthusiast, he was a member of the Motorcycle Riders Association.
Survivors include his mother, Patsy Martin, Medford; and a sister, Karen Blackett, Vancouver, Wash. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard; and a sister, Janet Powell.

Jeanne Gladys Rumsey
Jeanne Gladys Rumsey, 81, of Ashland, died Jan. 4, 2000 in Rogue Valley Medical Center. No service is planned.
She was born Jeanne Gladys LaRue on Dec. 12, 1918, in Sandpoint, Idaho.
On April 16, 1946, in Vancouver, Wash., she married Roy Otis Rumsey, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley 62 years ago from John Day.
Mrs. Rumsey was a self-employed artist. She was also a cook at the old Callahan's for 10 years.
She enjoyed painting.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Connie L. Hoover, Ashland, and Janice C. Schuck, Brookings Harbor; two sons, J.P. Bachelet and Dennie L. Rumsey, both Ashland; a brother, Bud LaRue, Halfway; a sister, Pearl Voget, Portland; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters.
