Marian Wolcott

Marian Wolcott, 91, of Ashland, died Tuesday (Jan. 11, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private family service will be held.

Interment will be in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

She was born Marian Messino on May 22, 1908, in Pittsford, N.Y., a daughter of Theresa and Frank Messino. She moved to the Rogue Valley as a child and attended schools in Medford. She moved to Ashland in 1992.

On Oct. 8, 1927, in Grants Pass, she married Donald J. "Mike" Wolcott, who preceded her in death in 1992.

Mrs. Wolcott was a tailor for Barker's Men's Store and the Toggery in Medford.

She enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include a daughter, Jacqueline M. McLean, Jacksonville; a sister, Bess Hamlin, Boulder City, Colo.; three grandchildren; and five great-grand children.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Crematory & Funeral Home, Ashland.

Rosetta Marie Bliss

The memorial service for Rosetta Marie Bliss will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints, Medford 6th Ward. Bishop Roger Hall will officiate.

Mrs. Bliss, 72, of Medford, died Monday (Jan. 10, 2000) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Breast Cancer Research, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Rosetta Marie Roberts on May 24, 1927, in Montpelier, Idaho, a daughter of Lewellen and Adella Roberts.

On Oct. 17, 1948, in Burlingame, Calif., she married Stanley Lawrence Bliss, who survives. She moved to Oregon in 1997.

Mrs. Bliss worked as a bookkeeper.

She enjoyed music and church.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Cheri Doelger, Medford; two sons, David, Medford, and John, Novato, Calif,; and five grandchildren.

Calvin H. Baird Sr.

The funeral for Calvin H. Baird Sr. will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, in Hillcrest Memorial Chapel, Medford. Pastor Bob Roth of the Church of the Nazarene in Medford will officiate.

Mr. Baird, 88, of Elkton, formerly of Medford, died Monday (Jan. 10, 2000) in Bremerton, Wash.

He was born on July 18, 1911, in Tacoma, Wash., a son of Henry and Ruhe Baird.

On Nov. 26, 1930, in Tacoma, Wash., he married Marion A. Hanlin, who preceded him in death on Dec. 2, 1988.

Mr. Baird worked in the Centennial Flour Mill during the depression in Tacoma, Wash. He then secured a position with the Federal Penitentiary Service at McNeil Island. He left McNeil Island to work for the Boeing Security System during World War II.

At the end of the war, he moved to Southern Oregon and worked for the Oregon liquor commissioner and then as Josephine County jailer. In 1946, he accepted the position of chief of police and moved to Roseburg. He worked for a short while for Umpqua Dairy and then was elected Douglas County sheriff. In 1955 he returned to work for the Federal Penitentiary Service until his retirement in 1972. Upon retirement he moved to Southern California, and then back to Medford until his wife's death in 1988.

He was a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge No. 68 in Washington. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene of Medford.

Survivors include a brother, Clyde Baird, Bremerton, Wash.; four grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Calvin H.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Marjorie Laura Walker

A celebration of the life of Marjorie Laura Walker will be at 11 a.m. Friday (Jan. 14, 2000) in Perl Chapel at Siskiyou Memorial Park. Pastor Rick Vestnys of Applegate Christian Fellowship will officiate.

Mrs. Walker, 81, of Medford, died Wednesday (Jan. 12, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

She was born Marjorie Weston on Oct. 12, 1918, in Los Angeles. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1992 from Santa Cruz, Calif.

Mrs. Walker served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

She graduated from the University of Southern California in 1948.

Mrs. Walker worked as a deputy sheriff and parole officer in Los Angeles County.

She enjoyed the outdoors and traveling.

Survivors include three daughters, Patty Boydstun, Medford, Jill Satren, Watsonville, Calif., and Dianne Stocks, Chino Hills, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Tommy L., in 1986.

Friends may pay their respects this evening, Thursday, Jan. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Perl Funeral Home in Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford.

John Franklin Berry

The graveside service for John Franklin Berry will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. The Rogue Valley Chapter of the Marine Corps League will officiate.

Mr. Berry, 79, of Medford, died Monday (Jan. 10, 2000) in the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Roseburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 3008, Princeton, N.J. 08543-3008.

He was born May 17, 1921, at Imbler, in Union County.

On Dec. 30, 1960, in Reno, Nev., he married Vida Chloe Huckaby, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1983 from Santa Rosa, Calif.

Mr. Berry was an electronic field engineer for the Department of the Army for 33 years, retiring in 1980.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Mr. Berry was a member of the Marine Corps League, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and Disabled American Veterans.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and vegetable gardening.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four daughters, Debbie Berry, Medford, Cassandra Saenz and Janet Berry, both Sacramento, Calif., and Lee Olson, Petersburg, Alaska; a son, Bruce, Electric City, Wash.; a brother, Jesse, Imbler; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Audrey Mattson

The funeral for Audrey Mattson will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Zion Lutheran Church in Medford. Pastor Lou Schneider will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Mattson, 87, of Medford, died Monday (Jan. 10, 2000) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 516 W. Fourth St., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Aug. 24, 1912, in Galena, Mo., a daughter of Charles and Anna (Sims) Stockstill. She was a Rogue Valley resident for most of her life.

On Feb. 1, 1948, in Reno, Nev., she married Albert L. Mattson, who died in 1991.

Mrs. Mattson was a homemaker. She also demonstrated food at Food 4 Less for 18 years.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Daughters of the Nile.

Survivors include two sisters, Hazel Bennett, Salem, and Wanda Abel, Canyonville; and a stepdaughter, Shirley Darmohray, Livermore, Calif.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel, Medford.

Debbie Lynn Sandoval

The funeral for Debbie Lynn Sandoval will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Covenant Life Ministries, 215 Pine St., Phoenix. Pastor Tom Carr will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Ms. Sandoval, 19, of Eagle Point, died Saturday (Jan. 8, 2000) at her home.

She was born Oct. 1, 1980, in Medford, a daughter of Gary Robert and Nancy Lynn Sandoval. She lived in the Rogue Valley all her life.

Ms. Sandoval attended North Medford High School.

She enjoyed horses, and riding 4-wheelers and dirt bikes.

Survivors include her mother, Nancy Lynn Sandoval, Medford; her father, Gary Robert Sandoval, Medford; two brothers, Stephen and Michael, both Medford; her grandparents, Judith Mitchell, Central Point, Geraldine Powell, Reedsport, and Robert Sandoval, Huntington Beach, Calif.; and a stepgrandmother, Fern Solomon, Medford. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Harold Solomon, in 1997.
