Maxwell Paul Guiley Sr.

Maxwell Paul Guiley Sr., 87, of Medford, died Thursday (Jan. 13, 2000) in Medford. No service is planned.

He was born Oct. 20, 1912, in Truckee, Calif.

On Dec. 11, 1943, in Columbia, S.C., he married Louise Davis, who survives. He lived in the Rogue Valley for 54 years.

Mr. Guiley served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He also served with the Air Force Reserves, retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel.

After his retirement from the Air Force, he worked for the Oregon Department of Revenue as a tax auditor.

He enjoyed flying airplanes and collecting old cars.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Allida G. Dolson, Harbor-Brookings; a son, Maxwell P. Jr., in Arkansas; and five grandchildren.

Marc Edward Prevost

The funeral Mass for Marc Edward Prevost will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Medford. Interment will be in Queensbury, N.Y.

Mr. Prevost, 46, of Medford, died Friday (Jan. 14, 2000) at Medford Rehabilitation Center following a yearlong battle with cancer.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Council of Governments, 155 S. Second St., Central Point, OR 97502.

He was born July 3, 1953, in St. Johnsbury, Vt., a son of Rita and Maurice Prevost. He attended colleges in New York and Vermont and in 1978 moved to Portland, where he was an electrical designer for sawmill equipment.

On March 17, 1984, in Portland, he married Terri Stripling, who survives.

Mr. Prevost moved to Ashland in 1982, attended Southern Oregon University and was a fire management volunteer for Rogue River National Forest. He earned a bachelor's degree in geography and environmental science from SOU in 1984. From 1985 until his death, he was on the Soda Mountain Wilderness Council. He chaired the council from 1987 to 1994.

Mr. Prevost was water resources manager for the Rogue Valley Council of Governments.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Ethan Edward and Eric Wesley, both Medford,; his father, Maurice, Queensbury, N.Y.; two brothers, Dennis, Queensbury, and Nathan, Dublin, Calif.; and a sister, Ann Marie Smith, Queensbury. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rita.

Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Frederick E. Winger

A celebration of the life of Frederick Everett Winger will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home Chapel, Ashland. Pastor Andy Green of the Ashland Christian Fellowship will officiate. Interment will be in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

Mr. Winger, 87, of Ashland, died Friday (Jan. 14, 2000) at Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oregon State University Foundation, P.O. Box 1438, Corvallis, OR 97339-1438, or the Ashland Christian Fellowship, 50 West Hersey, Ashland, OR 97520.

He was born July 24, 1912, in Elwood, Neb., a son of Blanche and Guy Winger. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska in 1934, a master's degree in 1939 from the University of Iowa, and an education doctorate from the University of Oregon in 1950.

On Aug. 25, 1935, in Burwell, Neb., he married Beth Gavin, who died in 1992.

On July 30, 1993, in Reno, Nev., he married Lorrine Skaff, who survives.

Mr. Winger was a teacher. From 1934 to 1939 he taught high school in Burwell, Neb., Norfolk, Neb., and Council Bluffs, Iowa. He taught at Stevens College in Columbia, Mo. from 1939 to 1942 and from 1945 to 1947. From 1947 to 1974, he taught at Oregon State University.

Mr. Winger was an author and public speaker for McGraw Hill book publishers. He wrote more than 70 typewriting textbooks and numerous professional publications and lectured to more than 500,000 business education teachers throughout the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, Bermuda and Mexico. At the time of his death, he was professor emeritus of Oregon State University, where he had served as chairman of the business education department.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army as a communication specialist stationed in France.

Mr. Winger was a member of the National Business Education Association, the Oregon Business Management Education Association, the Western Business Instructional Technology Education Association, Delta Pi Epsilon and the Oregon State University Beaver Club.

He was an avid reader. He enjoyed college sports, gardening, coin collecting and dogs.

Survivors include two sons, Mike, Puyallup, Wash., and Tim, Portland; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Louis E. Carson

The graveside service for Louis E. Carson will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. Pastor Kenni Horton of Rogue Valley Christian Church will officiate.

Mr. Carson, 71, of Medford, died Wednesday (Jan. 12, 2000) at Hearthstone.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Jan. 17, 1928, in Cosmopolis, Wash.

Mr. Carson was a residential builder in the Hermiston area. He moved to the Rogue Valley 12 years ago from Beaverton.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Carson enjoyed riding and roping horses, motorcycling, fishing and woodworking.

Survivors include two daughters, Carole Carson-Miles, Medford, and Carmen Gernhart, Beaverton; a brother, Frank Hock, Portland; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Raymond E. Stokes Sr.

Raymond E. Stokes Sr., 77, of Eagle Point, died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2000) at Medford Rehabilitation Center. No service is planned.

He was born Sept. 24, 1922, in Gunnison, Colo. He had lived in the Rogue Valley since 1944.

Mr. Stokes served in the Marine Corps from 1941 to 1944. He was stationed in the Pacific theater and received a Purple Heart.

He worked as a meat cutter for years in California. He also worked with his son in Roseburg.

Mr. Stokes enjoyed fly fishing and hunting.

Survivors include two sons, Ray, Eagle Point, and Lynn, Los Osos, Calif.; two brothers, Sam and Norman, both in California; two sisters, Inez Kerr, Aurora, Colo., and Ocie Rodgers, in New Mexico; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Russell, and a sister, Margaret Endicott.

David Leonard Herndon

The memorial service for David Leonard Herndon will be at 1 p.m. today at Calvary Church, Jacksonville. Pastor Terry Luttrell will officiate. Private interment was held at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Herndon, 67, of Eagle Point, died Friday (Jan. 14, 2000) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Church, 520 N. Fifth St., P.O. Box 117, Jacksonville, OR 97530, or to Providence Hospice, 1660 E. McAndrews Road, Medford OR 97504.

He was born Oct. 10, 1932, in Ventura, Calif. He lived in the Rogue Valley since 1948.

On Aug. 13, 1956, in Reno, Nev., he married Kathleen Morse, who survives.

Mr. Herndon worked for the Jackson County public works department for 35 years. He was in charge of building and maintaining bridges in the Rogue Valley.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He was active member of Calvary Church in Jacksonville.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Douglas, Eagle Point; a daughter, Carrie Bertram, Hillsboro; a sister, Zoetta Johnson, Redmond; two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and John.

Orland L. McGowan

The graveside service for Orland L. McGowan will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. McGowan, 77, of Central Point, died Friday (Jan. 14, 2000) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Hospice, 1660 E. McAndrews Road, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Jan. 24, 1922, in Portland. He lived in the Rogue Valley for most of his life, moving from Grants Pass.

On Oct. 28, 1941, in Reno, Nev., he married Josephine Wells, who died in 1991.

Mr. McGowan worked as a heavy equipment operator for Cheney Studs in Central Point for 40 years.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and car races.

Survivors include two sons, Robert, Medford, and Leroy Lindgren, also of Medford; seven daughters, Joan Thiessen, Independence, Arlene Golubski, Central Point, Josephine Boss, Gold Hill, Ruth Richey, Eugene, Peggy Botefur, Burns, Betty Holt, Grants Pass, and Verna Tucker, Central Point; a sister, Josephine Bos, Central Point; a brother, George Moore, Gold Hill; 30 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sons, Danny McGowan, Fred Lindgren, Charles Lindgren, and Howard Lindgren.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary.
