James A. Boulter
James "Jim" A. Boulter, 67, of Gold Hill, died Sunday (Jan. 16, 2000) at his home. A private service has been held. Interment was in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
He was born Jan. 9, 1933, in North Hollywood, Calif., a son of James A. and Gladys (McConnell) Boulter. He moved to the Rogue Valley 55 years ago from California, and grew up on East Evans Creek. He participated in football, basketball and track. In 1952, he played in the Shrine game in Portland.
On Aug. 15, 1953, in Rogue River, he married Gwendolyn Thornton, who survives.
Mr. Boulter was the supervisor of underground construction with U.S. West Telephone Co. He was hired in 1956 by the Pacific Northwest Bell division of AT&T. He worked in Medford, moved to Portland in 1958, and returned to Medford in 1961, where he continued to work for Pacific Northwest Bell, and then for U.S. West.
As supervisor of sub-way construction and the burying of underground cable for most of the Southern Oregon area from Grants Pass to Lakeview and North Bend, he developed a geological knowledge of the local area. That knowledge was used in preparing bids on costs of labor and digging to bury underground utility line. He retired in 1986.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1956.
Mr. Boulter enjoyed outdoor activities, including camping, hunting fishing and his garden.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Chris Ellen Boulter Helberg, Ukiah; a son, James `Jim," Klamath Falls; a sister, Joyce Purrier, Wimer; and one grandson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Weide.

Helen Angela Allen
Helen Angela Allen, 68, of Medford, died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2000) at her home. A memorial service has been held.
She was born March 14, 1931, in Rock Island, Ill.
In 1977, in San Quentin, Calif., she married Philip Allen, who survives.
Mrs. Allen worked as a waitress for many years. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1998 from Spokane, Wash.
An avid sports person, she enjoyed baseball and played in one of the first women's leagues. She also enjoyed singing gospel music, pets and family gatherings.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three daughters, Terry Ogier, Medford, Kathleen Rawlings, Crescent City, Calif., and Mary P. Mills, in Southern California; two sons, John Kinney, Crescent City, Calif., and Thomas Kinney, Fort Lewis, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Marguerite Bertha Petit
Marguerite Bertha Petit, 76, of Ashland, died Sunday (Jan. 16, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center, of a heart attack after surviving a two-year battle with cancer. A memorial service was held Tuesday at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, Ashland.
She was born May 18, 1923, in Salem, Mass., a daughter of Rosilda and Victor Raymond. She was raised in Salem.
On Aug. 31, 1943, she married Robert L. Petit, who survives. They raised their family in Salem for 25 years, then moved to Hampton, N.H., for 25 years before moving to Ashland.
Mrs. Petit was a homemaker.
She was very active in the social life of the Catholic Church and its associated charities.
Mrs. Petit enjoyed traveling around the country visiting her children, who are scattered around the states.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four sons, Lenard, Brooklyn, N.Y., David, Pagosa Springs, Colo., Leo, Long Island, N.Y., and Christopher, New York, N.Y.; two daughters, Roberta Petit, Ashland, and Paulette Petit, Hampton, N.H.,; an adopted son,
Robert Stankatis, Seabrook, N.H.; a brother, Gene Raymond, Plant City, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.

Kay C. Burns
The memorial service for Kay C. Burns will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Hillcrest Memorial Chapel. A short interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Dr. Roy Price, a family member, will officiate.
Mrs. Burns, 86, of Eugene, formerly of the Rogue Valley, died Friday (Jan. 14, 2000) at Southtown Living Center in Eugene.
She was born Dec. 19, 1913, in Denton, Mont., a daughter of Edward R. and Clara Mae (Lamber) Chamberlain.
On Oct. 18, 1933, in Ashland, she married Dale Burns, who died in 1984. She graduated from Southern Oregon College of Education in 1936, and lived in the Rogue Valley most of her life. She moved to Eugene 10 years ago.
Mrs. Burns was a teacher and a homemaker.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Medford, and held a leadership role in Bible study fellowship in Medford.
Survivors include a son, David, Rough and Ready, Calif.; a daughter, Sandra Price, Turlock, Calif.; two sisters, Marion Sturgill, Grants Pass, and Georgia Smith, Bellevue, Wash.; three brothers, Gene Chamberlain, Medford, Dick Chamberlain, Eagle Point, and Jack Chamberlain, Fortuna, Calif.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, C.E. "Buzz" Chamberlain, and Raymond Chamberlain.

Thomas Wells
Thomas Wells, 53, of Central Point, died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2000) at his home. No service is planned.
He was born Sept. 1, 1946, in Medford, a son of Howard L. and Novella Mae (Cooper) Wells. He lived in the Rogue Valley all his life.
Mr. Wells was a mill worker for Timber Products for several years. He also worked for Southwest Forest Industries.
He enjoyed reading, fishing and listening to music.
Survivors include two brothers, Howard, Central Point, and Homer, New Haven, Vt.; and a sister, Vivian Latino, Ashland.

Richard L. Kezer
The graveside service for Richard L. Kezer will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Kezer, 62, of Talent, died Tuesday (Jan. 18, 2000) in Medford.

He was born April 5, 1937, in San Jose, Calif., a son of Chester I. and Katie Lillian Kezer. His family moved to the Rogue Valley shortly after his birth and he lived here his entire life.
On Nov. 4, 1989, in Reno, Nev., he married Cherimae Peters, who survives.
Mr. Kezer was a printer with the Medford Mail Tribune for seven years.
He served in the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Kezer enjoyed fishing, playing the harmonica, traveling to the coast, and watching the Miami Dolphins.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Ramie L., Medford, Ryan L., Corvallis, and Ricky L., Redding, Calif.; three daughters, Rena L. Kezer-Hawley and Rachelle L. Kezer, both Medford, and Ronda L. Rodriguez, Carson City, Nev.; three stepdaughters, Pam Peters, Melinda Peters and Shannon Peters, all Talent; his mother, Katie Lillian Kezer, Jacksonville; two sisters, Mary Probert, Jacksonville, and Pat Tamino, Rogue River; a brother, Jack Kezer, Klamath Falls; and 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard L. Kezer Jr.; and a grandson.
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.
Barbara J. Brandt
The memorial service for Barbara J. Brandt will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary Interfaith Chapel B in White City. Pastor Joseph Shirey will officiate.
Mrs. Brandt, 67, of Shady Cove, died Sunday (Jan. 16, 2000) at her home.

She was born June 30, 1932, in Honolulu.
On Aug. 8, 1952, in Yuma, Ariz., she married Dale Brandt, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1979 from San Diego.
Mrs. Brandt joined the Marine Corps when she was 19 years old and was honorably discharged after one year. Five years later she returned to work for the Federal Government as a civil servant and worked for them until her death.
She enjoyed family gatherings, her pets, and working in the garden.
Survivors include two daughters Denise Brandt, Medford, and Marlene Faudoa, San Diego; two sisters, Gertrude Stephens, Yucca Valley, Calif., and Beatrice Mara, Oahu, Hawaii; and five grandchildren.
