Reuben James Balzer

Reuben James Balzer, 75, of Ashland, died Tuesday (Jan. 25, 2000) at Farmington Square. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nature Conservancy of Oregon, 821 S.E. 14th Ave., Portland, OR 97214, or the Southern Poverty Law Center, P.O. Box 548, Montgomery, AL 36104-0548.

He was born Feb. 2, 1924, in Minneapolis.

On July 4, 1976, in Kensington, Calif., he married Nancy Menken, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1992 from Manchester, Calif.

Mr. Balzer was a medical doctor in California prior to his retirement.

He enjoyed bicycling, backpacking, hiking and cross-country skiing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include five children; two stepchildren; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements: Ashland Funeral Care.

Donna A. Salisbury

Donna Albertina Salisbury, 86, of Talent, died Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2000) in Medford. A private memorial and interment will be held in Wichita, Kan.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Donna Albertina Powell on April 18, 1913, in Wichita, Kan. She attended Mount Carmel Academy and Wichita State University in Kansas.

On June 6, 1936, in Wichita, Kan., she married J. Leo Salisbury, who died in 1967. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1982 from Wichita.

Mrs. Salisbury was an X-ray technician.

She was a volunteer at the Ashland Chamber of Commerce from 1983 to 1985.

Mrs. Salisbury enjoyed gardening, swimming, reading and travel.

Survivors include a daughter, Sue Salisbury, Jacksonville; two sons, Kent, Barrington, Ill., and Stan, Stone Mountain, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Caroline Powell.

Arrangements: Ashland Funeral Care.

Theresa B. O'Connor

The cryptside service for Theresa Bernadette O'Connor will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.

Mrs. O'Connor, 88, of Shady Cove, died Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nature Conservancy, Attn: MSC, 4245 Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203-1606.

She was born Theresa Rose on May 28, 1911, in Brooklyn, N.Y.

In Brooklyn, she married Roderick O'Connor, who died in 1969. She lived in the Rogue Valley area for 25 years, then moved to Reno, where she lived for 30 years.

Mrs. O'Connor, who recently returned to the Rogue Valley, worked for Harrah's Club in Reno for 22 years.

Survivors include three daughters, Theresa Jean Kusel, Medford, Kerry O'Connor, Shady Cove, and Millicent Whillock, Washington, D.C.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandsons.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Flora Lucille Clark

The funeral for Flora Lucille Clark will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford. The Rev. John Wiuff of the First Church of God in Medford will officiate. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Clark, 87, of Medford, died Tuesday (Jan. 25, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

She was born Flora Osborne on Nov. 17, 1912, in Mount Vernon, Ill.

In Nov. 1937, in Reno, Nev., she married George E. Clark, who died in 1991.

Mrs. Clark was a homemaker.

She was a member of the First Church of God in Medford. She enjoyed ceramics, doll collecting, antiques and granite ware.

Survivors include a daughter, Florine Myers, Medford; a stepdaughter, Donna Lee Floyd, Phoenix; a stepson, Bill Clark, Talent; two brothers, Don Osborne, Central Point, and Les Osborne, Grants Pass; two sisters, Thelma Powell and Verna McDonnell, both Phoenix;

14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Clifford Norris; two brothers, Dale and Delbert Osborne; and one great-granddaughter.

Friends may pay their respects from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday in Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Leonard `Len' Burkett

The graveside service for Leonard "Len" H. Burkett will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Eagle Point National Cemetery. Pastor Garris Elkins will officiate.

Mr. Burkett, 75, of Medford, died Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2000) in Roseburg.

He was born Sept. 17, 1924, in Huxford, Ala., a son of Thomas and Elizabeth Burkett.

On Jan. 15, 1945, he married Laurie Addison, who survives.

Mr. Burkett worked in research and development at Pacific Semi-conductor and TRW in El Segundo, Calif. He later worked in construction in San Francisco.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Burkett was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Prospectors Club of Southern California, and Living Way Foursquare Church in Van Nuys, Calif.

He was a league bowler and enjoyed treasure hunting and fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Jackie Brothers, Medford, and Paula Burkett, in Washington; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements: Taylor's Family Mortuary, Winston.

Gerard Joseph Pare

The funeral for Gerard Joseph Pare will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anne Catholic Church, Grants Pass. The Rev. Gregory Moys will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Grants Pass.

Mr. Pare, 83, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2000) at Royale Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lovejoy Hospice, 400 N.E. E St., Grants Pass, OR 97526.

He was born July 13, 1916, in Lowell, Vt., a son of George and Wilhelmina Pare.

On Dec. 16, 1943, in New York City, he married Pauline Lischak, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley from New York in 1947.

Mr. Pare worked for Spalding Lumber until his retirement.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Pare was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a St. Vincent De Paul soup kitchen volunteer and a certified Master Gardener.

He enjoyed gardening and flower arranging, photography, wreath-making and wine-making.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Geraldine Pare, Talent, Louise Pare, Oakland, Calif., and Paulette Shephard, Silver City, N.M.; four sons, Michel and Rene, both Grants Pass, Gerard, Roseville, Calif., and Etienne, Almaty, Kazakhstan; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Damian, and a brother, Roger.

Friends may pay their respects from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday in St. Anne Catholic Church, Grants Pass. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m.

Arrangements: Lundberg's L.B. Hall Funeral Home, Grants Pass.
