Daniel Patrick Maloney
Family and friends will mourn the death of Daniel Patrick Maloney, who passed away on February 24, 2005, the year anniversary of the diagnosis of cancer. It was the only adversary that ever failed to fall under the spell of his Irish charm and wit.
He was born in Du Bois, Pennsylvania on March 21, 1939, to Catherine and Leonard Maloney and lived with his brother and two sisters, basically in Pennsylvania, until his high school days, when the family moved to California. He graduated from Sacramento High School in 1957 and joined the Navy, serving until 1962. He then returned home to attend American River Junior College and then Sacramento State College, where in 1969 he graduated with a Teaching Degree.
He was a teacher at Del Campo High School until 1971 when he and his wife, Nel, moved to Garden Valley, California where they remained for 20 years in a small farm setting until their son Timothy Maloney was raised. During the years in Garden Valley, people knew him best as co-owner of 'Maloney's Restaurant' in Greenwood, California. He also did carpentry, managed renta1 property and worked for the Post Office. The couple then moved to Ashland, Oregon in 1991.
He is survived by his wife, Nel; son, Timothy; twin grandsons, Casey and Logan Maloney; brothers, Joseph Maloney and Jim Maloney; and two sisters, Pat Sullivan and Margaret Borba. He was blessed with countless friends.
All who knew him will miss his exuberance for life, his wonderful Irish hospitality, the warmth of his sense of humor and his active and unique approach to life. All of this will be celebrated with family and friends in the spring in Garden Valley at a date to be announced later, where the drop of the "dew" will be raised to toast his life.
The family wishes any contributions commemorating his life to be sent as donation to the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon, P.O. Box 4291, Medford, OR 97501-0163.
