Charles Bottjer
Charles Richard (Dick) Bottjer, 68, of Fairhope, Ala., a former longtime Medford resident, died Friday (Jan. 21, 2000) in a hospital in Fairhope.
He is a former manager of what is now Rogue Disposal and Recycling Inc. in Medford. He retired in 1988.
Arrangements are being handled by Wolfe Funeral Home in Fairhope.
Kathleen L. Owens
Kathleen Lucille Owens, 66, of Medford, died Monday (Jan. 17, 2000) in Medford. Private cremation and inurnment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.
Ms. Owens was born Jan. 24, 1933, in San Francisco, Calif. She moved to the Rogue Valley from San Jose, Calif., in 1978.
Survivors include two sons, Richard McGee of Sparks, Nev., and Daniel McGee of Texas; a brother, Bill Owens, address unknown; and three grandchildren.

`Dick' Bottjer
The funeral for Charles Richard "Dick" Bottjer, former Medford resident, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Masonic Lodge in Jacksonville.
Mr. Bottjer, 68, of Fairhope, Alaska, died Friday (Jan. 21, 2000) at a hospital in Fairhope.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, 2300 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
Mr. Bottjer was born in Klamath Falls on Feb. 24, 1931. He had lived in Fairhope, Alaska, for the past six years.
He served as manager of City Sanitary (now called Rogue Disposal) in Medford until his retirement in 1988.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Mr. Bottjer was a member of the Warren Masonic Lodge No. 10 in Jacksonville, Elks Lodge No. 1168, the Hillah Shrine Temple in Medford, the Masonic Sojourners Breakfast, the V.F.W. of Elberta, Ala., the Fish River Search and Rescue Unit and the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.
Survivors include his wife, Deanna Bottjer, Fairhope; a daughter, Melinda Pellow, Reno, Nev.; three sons, Michael Bottjer of Medford, Shell Joyner of Vista, Calif., and Tony Joyner of Eugene; his mother, Nora Bottjer, Medford; three sisters, Barbara Fasel, Medford; Patty Gaines, Rocklin, Calif., and Mary Jo Steele of West Linn; and six grandchildren.
Arrangements: Wolfe Funeral Home, Fairhope.
Kenneth L. Bakshas
Kenneth L. Bakshas, 66, of Shady Cove, died Sunday (Jan. 23, 2000) at his home. A private service has been planned. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

He was born July 29, 1933, in Harlowton, Mont.
On Sept. 6, 1969, in Reno, Nev., he married Joyce Jensen, who survives. He lived in Grants Pass from 1946 to 1967 and spent most of his life in Southern Oregon.
Mr. Bakshas worked for Home Gas Company in Grants Pass for many years. He later worked for Security Land and Investment in Medford for 25 years, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of the Carnival Glass Club of the Pacific Northwest.
Mr. Bakshas was a member of the Lutheran Church in Montana.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Greg, Sam's Valley; four daughters, Lori McLoughlin, Medford, Vickie Bakshas, Grants Pass, Terrie Vaden, Roseburg, and Lisa Buxner, Las Vegas; a brother, Keith, Central Point; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mary H. Schuerman
Mary Harcourt Schuerman, 99, of St. Augustine, Fla., formerly of Medford, died Monday (Jan. 24, 2000) in St. Augustine Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in St. Augustine, Fla. No service is planned.
She was born Aug. 26, 1900, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and spent most of her adult life there.
On Aug. 25, 1928, in Poughkeepsie, she married William A. Schuerman, who died in 1995. They moved to Medford in 1980 and lived there for 10 years. In 1990, they moved to Vancouver, Wash. Mrs. Schuerman moved to St. Augustine In 1995.
Mrs. Schuerman belonged to the Congregational Church in Medford.
Survivors include a son, William A. Jr., St. Augustine; and two grandsons.
Arrangements: At Peace Cremation Society, Tampa, Fla.
Duane Gardner Cool
The memorial service for Duane Gardner Cool will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Medford Seventh-day Adventist Church. Pastor Ed Keyes will officiate. Inurnment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.
Mr. Cool, 80, of Medford, died Thursday (Jan. 20, 2000) at Three Fountains Nursing Center, Medford.

He was born Nov. 1, 1919, in Genesee, Pa.
On Feb. 16, 1952, in Los Angeles, he married Betty L. Schmid, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley six months ago from Apple Valley, Calif.
Mr. Cool was a self-employed real estate broker.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
Mr. Cool was a member of the Church of the Valley in Apple Valley, Calif.
He enjoyed baseball, dogs and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Steve, Medford; a daughter, Beverly Wilson, Los Altos, Calif.; a brother, Alfred, Ruskin, Fla.; two sisters, Beth Lenox, Ruskin, Fla., and Marilyn McCleary, Glenmoore, Pa.; and four grandchildren.

Dennis Arthur Kidwell
Dennis Arthur Kidwell, whose tireless advocacy helped make local facilities accessible for the disabled, died Thursday (Jan. 20, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
An informal memorial service for friends and family is planned at 3 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church in Medford. A reception will follow at the Medford Hotel.
Many local residents may remember seeing Kidwell, who rode throughout downtown Medford "snappily dressed, with hat and neatly trimmed white beard" riding an electric cart, said Connie Saldana of the Rogue Valley Council of Governments in a release to the newspaper.
"Dennis' inspired advocacy on behalf of people with disabilities prompted significant changes to Medford parks, and even the County Courthouse Auditorium, to make facilities accessible to people in wheelchairs," she said. "His absence ... will be noticed by many."
Kidwell's disability, caused by stroke and diabetes, did not keep him from working for the community. He served on the board of Disability Advocacy Social and Independent Living in Medford. He was a member of the Disability Services Advisory Council of Senior and Disability Services of Rogue Valley Council of Governments and was to be awarded the "Extra Mile Accessibility Award" for Jackson County at its next meeting.
He also served on the board of the Rogue Valley Transportation District's Special Transportation Committee, as office administrator of the Handicap Awareness and Support League, on Medford's Metropolitan Planning Organization District No. 9, and the Jackson County Housing Authority Board. He was a peer counselor for Providence Medford Medical Center, a member of the Jackson County Food Service Advisory Council and a board member of the statewide Technology Access for Live Needs.
He was born April 21, 1942, in Council, Idaho.
Prior to moving to Medford, Kidwell owned an antique clock repair shop, fought forest fires, was a gold miner, made rocket fuel, ran a furnace, was a zoo keeper and owned a grocery store.
Survivors include two sons, Kelly Kidwell, of Folsom, Calif., and Jason Kidwell, of Seattle; his mother, Irene E. Nichols, of San Diego; a brother, Idaho Supreme Court Justice Wayne Kidwell; and three grandchildren.
