La Vern H. Morse
The Mass for La Vern H. Morse will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church in Medford.
Mr. Morse, 82, of Phoenix, died Friday (March 10, 2000) at his home.
He was born March 29, 1917, in Dunlap, Iowa, a son of Margaret and La Vern Morse.
On Dec. 7, 1944, in Reno, Nev., he married Margaret Hainer, who died in 1999. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1952 from Southern California.
Mr. Morse was a machinist in the aerospace industry in Southern California. In the Rogue Valley, he worked for the Gold Hill Irrigation District for many years.
He was a member of the Rogue River Lions and the Grant Pass Elks.
Mr. Morse enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing and woodworking.
Survivors include two sons, Donald, Bellevue, Wash., and Richard, West Chester, Pa.; a daughter, Carolyn Flammini, Hemet, Calif.; a brother, Phillip, Rossmore, Calif.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Friends may pay their respects at 11 a.m.

Curtis Lee Hilliard
The graveside service for Curtis Lee Hilliard will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Chaplain M. Jerry Gilmer of the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary in White City will officiate.
Mr. Hilliard, 51, of White City, died March 3, 2000, in Medford.
He was born Dec. 12, 1948, in Martinez, Calif., a son of Dyke and Helen Hilliard. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1988 from Richmond, Calif.
Mr. Hilliard was a custodian at the Red Lion Hotel and at Labor Ready.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1970 and from 1976 to 1978.
Mr. Hilliard attended the Mount Olive Church of God and Christ in Richmond, Calif.
He was artistic and enjoyed drawing.
Survivors include three brothers, Frazier, San Antonio, Texas, and James and Leroy, both Richmond, Calif.; two sisters, Dorothy Hilliard Woods, Clearlake, Calif., and Geneva Britt Hilliard, Richmond, Calif. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Hilliard,
in 1986; his father, Dyke, in 1991; a brother, Charles Sampson, in 1978; and two sisters, Vester Hilliard in 1979 and Mary Busby Hilliard, in 1998.

William S. Barnum
William S. Barnum, 73, of Florence, formerly of Medford, died March 1, 2000 at his home, of cancer.

He was born March 4, 1926, in Medford, a son of W. Berthold Barnum and Helen Lydiard Barnum. He graduated from the University of Oregon in 1949, and earned a master's degree in business from Harvard University.
Mr. Barnum worked for Kaiser Steel Corporation in Northern and Southern California, retiring as vice president and treasurer. He moved to Florence in 1990.
He enjoyed sailing, flying and traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Leslie, Florence; two sons, William S. Jr., Portland, and Brad, San Diego; a daughter, Sara Callahan, Los Altos, Calif.; a brother, William B. Jr., Medford; a sister, Patricia Slade, Klamath Falls; and four grandchildren.
Joseph Paul Kettering
Joseph Paul Kettering, 83, of Shady Cove, died Tuesday (March 7, 2000) at his home. A celebration of life will be held later.

He was born Aug. 22, 1916, in Mellette, S.D., a son of Alvah J. and Alice M. (Possom) Kettering.
In 1984, in Reno, Nev., he married Bonnie Dallaire, who survives.
Mr. Kettering worked in law enforcement in Riverside, Calif. He moved to the Rogue Valley 31 years ago from Riverside.
He was a member of the Shady Cove Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd-degree Mason. He was also a member of the Medford Pistol Club.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Jon Harris, Sandy, Ore., and Lance Wayne, Lufkin, Texas; two daughters, "Jodi" Joel Diane Kettering, Bend, and Donna Lynne Kettering Russell, Riverside, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Debera Herzog, Trail, and Barbara Miller, Calimesa, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, A.J. Kettering.

R. Stephen McDonald
The funeral for R. Stephen McDonald will be at 10 a.m. today in the Church of Christ in Sherman, Texas. The Rev. Bill Wiley will officiate. Interment will be in the veterans section of West Hills Cemetery in Sherman, Texas.
Mr. McDonald, 53, of White City, died Saturday (March 4, 2000) at his home.

He was born Jan. 9, 1947, in Sherman, Texas, a son of Clellie Marion and Louise (Brown) McDonald. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1981 from St. Louis.
Mr. McDonald was a local antiques dealer.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a disabled veteran.
Mr. McDonald attended the West Main Church of Christ in Medford.
He enjoyed antiques, writing, composing music and playing musical instruments.
Survivors include his companion, Nick Nickles, White City; a son, Charles Michael McDonald, Jacksonville, Texas; his mother, Louise McDonald, Sherman, Texas; two brothers, Mike and James McDonald, both Sherman, Texas; a sister, Charlotte Briggs, Abilene, Texas; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Clellie Marion McDonald.

Walter T. Branscum
Walter T. Branscum, 86, of Medford, died Monday (March 6, 2000) at Three Fountains Nursing Center. A private service will be held at the end of March. Inurnment will be in Jacksonville Cemetery.
He was born March 27, 1913, in Falls City, Neb. He was raised on a dairy farm in Hiawatha, Kan., a son of W.T. and Daisy Mae (Liechti) Branscum. After graduating from high school he traveled west on freight trains, settling in Los Angeles.
In 1942, he married Mabel Ottem. They moved to Medford in 1965 and divorced in 1975.
Mr. Branscum operated a wholesale butcher business in Los Angeles. In Oregon, he worked for the Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC) until his retirement.
He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.
Mr. Branscum was a member of the Eagles and Moose lodges.
After his retirement, he enjoyed dancing, as much as five nights a week, until he was in his early 80s.
Survivors include a son, Wade, Jacksonville; three daughters, Bobbi Naumes and Clover Leonard, both Medford, and Janene Loran, Anchorage, Alaska; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Rev. Gordon York
The memorial service for Rev. Gordon York will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Trail Community Church. Pastor Garland Shinn will officiate.
Rev. York, 74, of Trail, died Tuesday (March 7, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born April 10, 1925, in East Tremonton, Utah, a son of Ray and Emily (Neilson) York.
On Feb. 14, 1990, in Reno, Nev., he married Carmen Cooper, who survives.
In Reno, Rev. York was the superintendent and chaplain at the Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission. He also worked as an electrician.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. York enjoyed preaching, fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen York, Trail. He was preceded in death by a brother.
