Edgar Lee Woods Sr.
Edgar Lee Woods Sr., 57, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, formerly of Medford, died Friday (May 19, 2000) in Council Bluffs. A private service will be held.
He was born Aug. 9, 1942, in Lebanon, Kan.
In February 1965, in Eugene, he married Elizabeth Winfrey, who survives. He lived in the Rogue Valley from 1977 to 1995.
Mr. Woods worked for Southern Pacific Railroad for 32 years; in Medford as a crew dispatcher, and in Iowa as an auditor.
He served in the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Woods was a former member of the Phoenix Church of Christ.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Edgar Jr., Oklahoma City; two daughters, Susan Van Pelt and Pamela Woods-Miller, both Medford; and four grandchildren.

Florence Ellen Mielke
The graveside service for Florence Ellen Mielke will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford. Bishop Larry Doll of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jacksonville Ward, will officiate.
Mrs. Mielke, 87, of Medford, died Saturday (May 20, 2000) at Hearthstone.
She was born Florence Sanford on May 26, 1912, in Salt Lake City.
On Jan. 1, 1933, in Lawndale, Calif., she married Waldo W. Mielke, who died in 1996.
Mrs. Mielke was a cook for the Shasta Union High School District for several years. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1990 from Central Valley, Calif.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Central Valley, Calif., and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Medford 4th Ward.
Mrs. Mielke enjoyed needlework, ceramics, gardening and reading.
Survivors include a son, Gerald "Jerry, " Jacksonville; three daughters, Sharon Fischbeck, Medford, Eloise Despain, Central Point, and Mary Lou Whittier, Blacksburg, Va.; 19 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren. A grandson preceded her in death in 1981.
Friends may pay their respects from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.
Larry Duane Perigo
The candlelight service for Larry Duane Perigo will be at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Little Butte Park, across the creek from Little Butte Mill, on Community Park Drive in Eagle Point.
Larry, 17, of Sams Valley, died Saturday (May 20, 2000) at Willow Lake in Butte Falls.

He was born Aug. 31, 1982, in Medford, a son of John and Angela (Perkett) Perigo.
Larry attended school in Central Point, and played football in junior high. Most recently, he attended Crossroads.
He worked as an auto detailer, and in landscaping.
Larry enjoyed music and working on his truck.
Survivors include his parents, John and Angela Perigo, Sams Valley; his grandparents, Larry and Susan Perkett, Sams Valley and Jim and Nancy Worley, Shady Cove; his great-grandparents, Bud and Della Perkett, Fresno, Calif., Edith and Jack Hendrickson, Gold Hill, and Esther Gilbreath, Yuma, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Duane Z. Perigo; and his uncle, Daniel Perigo.

Edward C. Denton
The graveside service, with full military honors, for Edward C. Denton will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Pastor John Wiuff of the First Church of God will officiate.
Mr. Denton, 84, of Medford, died Sunday (May 21, 2000) at the Waterford at Three Fountains.

He was born July 21, 1915, in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Denton retired on disability as a master sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, having served in the Pacific during World War II and the Korean War.
He was a member of the Berkeley First Presbyterian Church in California. He moved to Medford two years ago from San Pablo and Berkeley, Calif.
Survivors include his wife, Indiana, Medford; and a son, Frank, Medford.

Jean Edson Hagenstein
The memorial service for Jean Edson Hagenstein will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sunset Presbyterian Church in Portland.
Mrs. Hagenstein, 75, of Portland, formerly of Medford, died Sunday (May 21, 2000) at St. Vincent Hospital in Portland, after a five-year fight with cancer.

She was born March 22, 1925, in Los Angeles. She graduated from high school in San Mateo, Calif., and attended the University of California at Berkeley.
In 1945, in San Francisco, she married Jack A. Edson. They later divorced.
In June 1980 she married William Hagenstein, who survives.
Mrs. Hagenstein owned and operated The Gift Horse in downtown Medford for four years in the early 1960s. She lived in Medford from 1953 to 1979.
She was a member of the Sweet Adelines in her early years, and a 40-year member of the P.E.O.
Mrs. Hagenstein enjoyed gardening, traveling and music.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three sons, Stephen Edson, Medford, David Edson, Eugene, and James Edson, Los Angeles; two daughters, Claudia Reinhaus, Portland, and Lynn Edson, Corvallis; and five grandchildren.

Paul Deaver Bray
The memorial service for Dr. Paul Deaver Bray will be at 11 a.m Thursday at the Gold Hill Methodist Church. The Rev. Philip Inman will officiate. Entombment will be in Eastwood IOOF Cemetery.
Dr. Bray, 80, of Medford, died Sunday (May 21, 2000) at his daughter’s home in Rogue River.

He was born Oct. 19, 1919, in Medford, a son of Jouett P. and Bernice (Anderson) Bray.
In 1956, in Medford, he married Inez Walgamott, who died in 1986.
Dr. Bray was a semi-retired chiropractor, dedicated to the healing arts. He practiced in the Rogue Valley from 1950 to 1999, except for five years when he had a practice in Pendleton. During his last years in practice, his office was in Jacksonville, where he was known for providing free services to seasonal workers and low-income people and for his willingness to make house calls.
He was a member of the Methodist Church and a former member of the Lion’s Club, where he held several positions, both in Medford and in Pendleton.
Dr. Bray was interested in geology and antique cars. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Sewell, Wimer, and Margaret Rice, Grants Pass; three sons, David M. and Tim Bray, both Medford, and Glenn Hedrick, Morton, Wash.; three brothers, Max R., Phoenix, Ariz., William D., Claremont, Calif., and Robert A., Redding, Calif.; two sisters, Peggy R. George, Ashland, and Nancy E. Robinson, Prospect, Conn.; his former wife, Mary Johnson; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Gordon Lee; four brothers, Philip, Eugene, Lee and Charles; and a sister, Kathleen Lundy.

John Elwood Hall
The graveside service for John Elwood Hall will be at 2 p.m. today at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Hall, 58, of Central Point, died Friday (May 19, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born May 8, 1942, in McCoysburg, Ind. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1954 from Indiana.
On Sept. 2, 1964, in Owens Crossroads, Ala., he married Myra Joan Byrd, who survives.
Mr. Hall was an equipment operator for Stone Forest Products in White City until 1993.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964.
Mr. Hall was a member of Rogue Valley Bass Masters.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding horses at Hope Equestrian Center.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, John Jr., Portland; a daughter, Tammy Latham, Dardanelle, Ark.; a brother, Chuck, Central Point; a sister, Linda Chelf, Smyrna, Del.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Carl; and a sister, Joyce Ann.
